BA Holidays are really reasonable still. We booked yesterday out from Heathrow with BA, mid morning Wednesday, back midday Friday, plus a 4* hotel for £230 a person.

If anyone is flying into or staying in Bratislava, FlixBus has today released its October dates for bookings. Buses go from three places in Bratislava (airport, new town, old town) to 4 places in Vienna for €5. The earlier you book it, the better your chances of getting it at €5 (goes up to €15 or €18 if bought on day... www.flixbus.com or click HERE

Going to wait until I have a ticket. No way am I getting myself into more financial strife if I haven't got a ticket.

Welshman who lives in Austria here. Tip for a cheap'n'cheerful hotel in Vienna - try Ibis Budget at Gasometer. It's on the underground and ideal for 1 or 2 night stay.
C'mon Wales!

It is indeed one of the cheapest options in Vienna, at about €55/night. A ten minute walk from the main coach station in Erdberg. If you don't mind walking, its perfect, as its a mere 3Km away from stadium. You will need to change metro twice from this station to the stadium, so the metro travel time is probably similar to the walking time! Personally, I have opted for the IBIS in Wien Messe, its €5 dearer, the same 3Km walk from stadium, but on the direct line to airport (S7, 30 minutes) and stadium (U2, 2 stops)

The metro (or U-Bahn) is easy peasy in Vienna. I use it regularly and compared to many other European capitals it is super clean. All machines in English. If anyone is flying into Bratislava LATE there is the 'Hotel Chopin' nearby which is literally a 2 minute taxi ride or if you really want to save your euros, you could WALK there in about 25 minutes. This isn't that expensive: www.viennahouse.com/en/easy-chopin-bratislava/the-hotel/overview.htmlThere are trains and buses from Bratislava to Vienna. I think bus is probably cheapest. If you want a decent cuppa tea I wholeheartedly recommend the Marks & Sparks cafe opposite the Sheraton Hotel near the Eurovea Shopping Centre in Bratislava. If landing in Vienna Schwechat, the CAT train is the quickest to the city but also more expensive. Get on the S7 local train to save your pennies, then get an underground ticket. Hope this helps! PM for any more info. Iechyd da!

Well ... good question. For other games a lot of footie fans tend to congregate on Stephansplatz nr St Stephens Cathredral (German: Stephansdom) - this is the central part of the underground. The underground line for the stadium (Stadion) is the U2 - the purple line. There are a few decent Irish pubs: - Charlie P's ( www.charlieps.at ) This is a very short walk from the U2 (underground line 2) station called 'Schottentor'. The 'Stadion' (Stadium) stop is on the same line (10 mins travel time tops). - Molly Darcy's Irish Pub ( www.mollydarcys.at ) is also pretty close to Schottentor so close to U2. - Johnnys Pub ( www.johnnys-pub.at ) - this one is further away and doesn't open till 1700. From this one, you'd need to U2 line fr nearby Karlsplatz to get to Stadion. All three of these will do you a decent pint of beer, lager or cider. I am NOT on commission from any of these three. Austrians mostly drink lager - local beers ate Gösser and Stiegl - comparable to a pint of Stella I would say. Far better than the nat's wotsit Carlsberg being dished up @ Euro 2016. Outside the Irish pubs mentioned here you'll find mostly lagers. Pubs tend to shut in Vienna as and when and it's common for 'em to stay open till at least 2 AM.

Although I have a booking for it, I will need to cancel it (up until the day before arrival). At the moment, there are still rooms left at ibis budget Wien Messe for Thurs + Friday nights (6 to 8 Oct) for €126 (for two nights, up to three people). PM me if you want to book this and find it full - so we can then co-ordinate me releasing my own booking simultaneously ... I have it as a reminder in my phone to cancel on the Monday at the moment...
