An update of a North Wales development centre doing the rounds on Wrexham's forum:
"Sports students at Wrexham Glyndwr University will benefit from investment in Colliers Park training facility.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is to sign a lease with the University and plans to redevelop the Gresford complex into a National Development Centre.
A 28-day consultation is now underway, and proposals for the site are available to view in reception on Plas Coch campus before being submitted to Wrexham council in the Spring.
These include improved surfaces and an enhanced provision for the community and local football teams, as well as revamped off-pitch accommodation.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar said: “The investment in Colliers Park will be great news for students on our football and sports coaching degrees, who will prosper in these new surroundings.
“The FAW’s plans are very impressive and support the University’s Campus 2025 redevelopment programme, as well as the community.
“It is also a big boost for football in this region and the FAW in North Wales, so we fully support their vision.”
A spokesman for the FAW added: “The proposed development demonstrates the FAW’s commitment to North Wales and represents a significant investment in the area.
“With the investment to develop high quality training facilities, the FAW aims to deliver national training, coach education, improvements to national and regional player development performance pathways and amongst creating further competitive opportunities in North Wales.
Wrexham Glyndwr University had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the FAW in respect of football and coaching degrees, which also looked to establish women and girls teams and leagues in partnership with Wrexham AFC, the council and education institutions in north east Wales."

As gutted as I am that we lost this facility, I'm glad it's now at least being put to good use.

Does this mean more youth matches in North Wales as a result such as the Victory Shield? I would take days off work to go and watch them.

As much as |I want to see the FAW invest in football I do wish they would give the money to clubs playing in Wales to improve their facilities/academies.
We should be in a position where a 5th tier or even lower club playing in the English league shouldn't be picking off all the better young welsh players.

As much as I love Wrexham will North Wales benefit from having a North Wales development centre in Wrexham? It's right on the border. Maybe a more central area in North Wales would have been better for North Wales as a whole.

From what I've seen I'm not a fan of investing in clubs facilities. It doesn't better football in the area it just allows one team to dominate it. In theory if they built a 3G facility for a club every club in the immediate area would have a facility to train at, lower Academy costs for that club as they have a free training facility, cheaper pitch hire rates for clubs in the area. What you actually get is high pitch hire costs (the same as hiring 3G in colleges and leisure centres), academy fees similar to clubs with no 3G who have to pay for training pitch hire and a major boost to the first team playing budget as it's given them a revenue stream to fund it.

Very interesting. Wales served up some memorable games there in the 70s and 80s. Hope the ground will be developed in the not too distant future and that International football returns to Y Cae Ras.

Its only the Kop that needs to be sorted. Ideally we'll soon see the return of safe standing to the UK and it can remain a terrace. Will still need a lot of work of course but I'd love the chance to stand on a packed terrace watching Wales.

Unfortunately it has nothing to do with or any benefit to Wrexham AFC. We lost Colliers when the owners sold it to the University, who wanted a high price for us to rent it with restricted use, therefore we no longer use it. We now rent our own training ground(9 acres) in town off the council, with no facilities other than great pitches. Our youth teams do still train at Colliers though. Wrexham AFC invested over 1 million into Colliers but that has now all been taken away, as well as the Racecourse. We owned both, but both were sold to cover debts ran up by the private owners when bringing the Crusaders to the Racecourse and paying wages outside our income, they then sold the carpark to themselves and built flats on it, again this money should have gone into the club but is now in private hands. They hoodwinked a lot of our fanbase including ex players into thinking they were going to build a new stand on the kop with the profits, and many of the fans did not heed the warnings of the supporters trust, Dean Saunders also went to the council meeting to support the owners and wow the council who have a record of completely cocking everything up, placing no protection for the club on the planning permission. Hopefully in the future the club will have money to build another one.

Hopefully in the future the club will have money to build another one. For the avoidance of doubt, 100% of the money from the flats will go to Wrexham has to be up there with the Brexit NHS £350,000,000 a week slogan. It’s always amazed me that no one could ever take the flats off them for getting the permission under false pretences or something and give them to the club. I remember going to a match on Valentine’s Day and they gave out ridiculous heart leaflets to everyone filled with nothing but lies, the worst part was the cost to pull the wool over our eyes would have also come out of the club account. Good business tactic though from Moss and Roberts. Go in, run the club unsustainably, loan the club your own money for what looks like your own incompetence, build the club a nice little nest egg, take the nest egg in return for the debts built up due to your awful running of the club, sell the club.

The years after Pryce-Griffiths sold the club to Alex Hamilton still affect the club. Mis-management on a grand scale then, and the club is still playing catch up really.

Keates has left for Walsall. I can't blame him for leaving to a club two levels above who happen to be the team he supports, but the fact that he's left us while we're in the closing stages of the season while chasing promotion leaves a very sour taste. There are a number of well wishers but I can't bring myself to think the same at this moment in time, for me this action is unforgivable.
At least he didn't nab Carl Darlington away from us, who, with Andy Davies will be in charge of Wrexham for the remainder of the season. At the end of the season, I'd like to see us go after Craig Bellamy or Adam Owen. Craig appears to have a soft spot for the town, having donated a sum to our cause when we nearly went under. Adam Owen, I feel, was unfairly sacked recently and this could be the last chance we'll ever get to bring him in. He's got a very bright managerial career ahead of him in my opinion.

Bellamy would be a great appointment. He has said recently he doesn't care about what level he starts at, so long as the board connect with him. Even a temporary role could really suit both parties. I'd love to see CB go there. I'm kind of glad Keates has gone, if only for the reason that I couldn't understand a word he says in interviews.

Harrison would be a very retrograde step, but I don't get the CB love in. I know everyone needs to start somewhere but a lot of hard work has gone into turning the club around, so why risk it all on someone who doesn't know the club or the division. Personally I would be happy for Darlington and Davies to take the reigns if they want it

Not the best time to lose the Manager, but he wanted to go and there'll be some compo. Let's see what these two do now to the end of the season, and fingers crossed Wrexham can keep in the play-off zone at least. Just pray we haven't shot ourselves in the foot with only a few games to go. I'd personally like to see a future Manager actually give Welsh talent a chance, not journeymen from all over except Wales. There is some talent in the Welsh Premier e.g. Gossett Bangor City, who could play at a higher level.

Wrexham: Andy Davies to take charge until the end of the season www.bbc.com/sport/football/43428959Andy Davies will take charge of Wrexham for the remainder of the season following the departure of manager Dean Keates. Keates, 39, was named as successor to Jon Whitney, who was sacked after two years in charge at the Bescot Stadium. Davies, Keates' number two, took charge of Wrexham's 2-2 draw at Woking alongside first team coach Carl Darlington. Wrexham currently sit fifth in the National League. The club say they will continue their search for a new permanent manager. Walsall-born Keates, who made over 200 league appearances in two spells with his hometown club, has been Wrexham manager since October 2016. Youth team manager Stephen Wright will join the first team coaching staff while Michael Oakes and Darlington will continue in their roles as coaches supported by Nick Barnett and Phil Davies.

He's rewarded with a win. Wrexham now move 8 points clear of 8th place Fylde so the playoffs look an almost certainty. We are currently 5 points off top spot, but we'd probably need to win every game to win this league.
