Let's hope it's nothing serious. I noticed that Rodon and Ampadu played together at the back again, as much as I like this I want Ethan in the middle of the park where we currently really need him for Wales. How can they change a winning team? With Ampadu as captain playing at CB, they have won 4 games in a row with 9 goals for, and 1 goal against, and him & Rodon have hardly broken into a sweat. If Struijk was back from injury, they could use Saturdays FA Cup game to switch to their original back 4, but he wasn't even on the bench today. Chill, Winston. I just said that I'd prefer Ampadu to play in midfield as that's where we need him for Wales right now.

I wouldn't worry about it, he can easily slot into the midfield, just like he switched to CB at Leeds and was MOTM in his first game.

James out ‘for a couple of weeks’ with injury
I know the playoffs are ages away but I’m paranoid

Scored one (brilliant goal with almost no uplift on the shot), should have had a pen and makes me dizzy with his constant movement!

11 goals and 7 assists in the league. Will likely finish the season on 20-25 goal contributions

DJ is in the form of his life. His end product has been there all season either starting or coming off the bench - something like 20 goals and assists so far. I’d absolutely start him on Thursday.

Daniel Farke is a very good manager, and he's got all the Welsh lads playing well. It would be interesting to see what he could do in the PL with a decent budget, as he was always hamstrung at Norwich when they got promoted.

What a Dan James goal that was. Never gives up and always gives 100%. Delighted for him.

He’s panicked and squandered so many of those one on ones in the past. Reflects how much his confidence has grown since going to Leeds. That was the Dan James we thought we were getting pre-Man United move/passing of his father. Love the man, starts Tuesday for me

I thought that - go around him with your pace and be blooming well did! Class - its about being backed and having a regular run of games!

Yes, a magnificent opportunistic goal, shades of his debut goal against Slovakia. I would start him, as much for his effective pressing as anything.

His goal was very similar to the Brennan 1v1 in the first half and it was interesting to see James finish better out of the two. Years gone by James does what Brennan does and panics the finish, taking a bad touch. James seems to have matured and Brennan isn't quite there yet I don't think
Would start James purely for his work rate in such a big game, and given we will be counter attacking a lot against Poland

James has largely had an impact sub role for Leeds since coming back from injury a month ago, and done it extremely well. The same was true tonight, I thought he was brilliant. I’d be very tempted to ask him to play a similar role on Tuesday - that we start off with the more technically gifted forwards before bringing him on when legs start to tire - that could win the game for us. And if it goes to extra time, James would be absolutely lethal

(RE: the oddballs, there are still a few twits at Wales games - thankfully only a small minority - who don't get fully behind the team, and fall back on missplaced club allegiences).
Anyway, back to the thread... Dan James was great when he came on - an excellent finish for his goal - and I agree that he should again be our super-sub on the hour on Tuesday night (with the possibility of the game ending up being 120 mins long).

Really put himself in contention to start on Tuesday, might well need his pressing from the off, although there's also an advantage to using him as an impact sub too
A side note, seems Toshack's old mantra of getting players to 50 caps then reaping the benefit seems to be coming true again. First wave we saw it with Bale, Ramsey, Gunter, Allen, Hennessey etc...now we're seeing coming of age performances from Wilson, Ampadu & James
I think there's a few more I'd like to see reach that mark to get us back to being competitive against very good teams: Neco, Mepham, Rodon, Brooks, Brennan

Hope he doesn't take last night too hard. Takes an incredible amount of bravery to step up and take a penalty there. He was pretty much robbed of a game too by playing at RWB.
Still gave his everything when called upon, chin up DJ.

Still gave his everything when called upon, chin up DJ. I doubt it will. He's taken a few knocks to his professional ego during his playing career but always seems to come back for more. He's been one our best players since his debut.

He's one our less intelligent fans are more quick to criticise.
We wouldn't have made the World Cup without him doing the running for him and Bale, he's one of our leading goal-contributors now and was solid when playing RWB as an emergency (his first time in that position?) despite having in initially come on for Brennan Johnson ready to attack their slower defenders.
I agree that he's had a series of knocks in his life and come back each time. Seems to be a strong character with good support around him.

He has come in for some fan criticism in the past but I think the tide has turned in that respect and he's now a firm favourite amongst supporters. Don't want to see him at RWB again though - we need his energy and pace up front.

No blame on him, had the guts to take one of the first 5. Penalty shootouts are a lottery. Just a shame!!

No blame on him, had the guts to take one of the first 5. Penalty shootouts are a lottery. Just a shame!! Don't buy that they're always a lottery, Poland were always going to be favourites in a shootout due to having players with more experience at a higher level and a world class goalkeeper. Stuff like that counts. I'm shocked Ampadu didn't take one to be honest, he strikes me as a very calm player and nerves are more important during a shootout than being a natural finisher. Look at England's penalties at the last Euros. James didn't look confident but still went up there, and all credit to him.
