Louis Thompson has become a key player for Portsmouth who are on a great run at the moment, and is getting rave reviews. I think he's struggled with injuries over the past few seasons so hasn't played much, but they've apparently been managing his game time carefully and it's paying off. Seems he's been playing as part of a double pivot, often side by side with Morrell, sometimes instead of him, and getting a lot of praise. I think he's more of a defensive midfielder and has some strength and physicality to him, so could potentially be an option to add some depth behind Ampadu. He's 27 so not exactly one for the future, but most of our midfielders are quite small and lightweight, so we could do with some more physical options. One to consider for the summer camp surely?
Quotes from his manager Danny Cowley:
And some quotes from the local press:

Should be looked at in the EFL camp if we are doing one.
We're still quite light in holding midfield. I think Morrell was right place and right time with regards to the call up and sort of staked his claim for now with some of his performances. I think Morrell could probably play higher and I did read an article from local news that they thought the same of Thompson too. Appears Thompson is held in higher regard as well. I could see Thompson definitely competing with the likes of Vaulks and Smith. Just depends how younger players kick on next season.
Jordan James, Levitt and Ampadu could be a great and balanced midfield three in time based off this season. All could change though!

I haven't watched Luke play so know very little about him other than his goalscoring record. I've watched James quite a bit and say he's more of #8 as opposed to a holding midfielder might change over time though - exciting times hopefully. Not sure what's happened to the likes of Terry Taylor and Matt Smith, neither have kicked on as much as I'd have hoped for this season

Good work gimliDefinitely sounds like the type of player we are missing playing at a decent level and in good form I'm sure he came to one of the previous EFL camps under Giggs, so I don't see why he shouldn't come again

Bloody hell, just checked to see where he was at, fractured his leg playing for Pompey early this season & out until the end of the year.
27 now, you never know maybe he'll get a full season behind him and another chance for us one day.

How come Louis Thompson always comes up now and again but his older Brother Nathan who was playing the the championship the last few seasons never does?
Is it a half brother situation and Nathan isn’t eligible? Nathan’s 32 now and will obviously never get a cap but he always seemed a better prospect and has played at a higher level for years.
Edit: Found Nathan’s confirmation of eligibility by DS in the eligibility thread from 2 years back.

I always thought Nathan was a limited player and Louis had a higher ceiling. Louis started playing first team football from quite a young age, but he’s had several significant injuries.
Norwich signed him for a decent sum and he’s played in the Championship. But, he snapped his achilles a couple of times, dislocated shoulders and more recently a double fracture of his leg. He always seems to breakdown when he gets a run going.

I’m sure Louis retired from International football due to his no show with the Under 21 squad during the Geraint Williams era Can’t pick and choose

I think we'd be in trouble if we ever started looking at Louis Thompson, 28 and only 116 league starts to his name, certainly not a player you can count on to be fit. Central midfield is a problem with the likes of Smith tailing off but Thompson isn't ever going to be the answer to anything unless he suddenly ups his game and stays fit.

Starts alongside Morrell again in CM the last 2 games. Maybe wee Joe mk 2 will mention Thompson to the Wales staff if he’s any good 🤷♂️
Andy King getting decent minutes in the Championship Sheehan playing regularly, CM Vaulks (not his biggest fan) but playing regularly
Page picked a squad of 24, Rambo, Morrell, Ampadu and J James the only players used to playing a traditional CM role in there.
With space in the squad why not add to our options at CM? I suppose we can pick Neco in there, and then Cooper, Harris and Wilson are more attack minded. But there we go

I'd rather have Vaulks than Thompson if I'm honest, his career has largely been a stop start mess, not his fault but it's not something that I think will help us, he's started 117 league games in nearly 11 years.

Fair enough, with 2 extra spaces in the squad and lack of depth at CM I’d bring in Sheehan and King personally. But any of the 4 would be welcome

I wonder why he didn't fill the squad, seems rather strange to leave two spaces open, does he have plans to call up another two in the week?
