Back from an excellent match at Ninian Park. Ended 2-0 to the Swans after extra time. On balance, the young swans deserved the win, but this was certainly a game of two halves ... First half, the Swans had about 80% of the ball and created at least ten decent chances. I was disappointed with the captain, Liam Cullen, who played as an out and out striker (turned 18 today). He must have had six or seven shots on target, but not one of them looked remotely dangerous enough to trouble the excellent Morgan Davies. Nonetheless, he has the swagger, the stubborn determination and the attitude to indicate that there is potential there... Keiren Evans was also pretty poor, and was subed after 60 minutes. After half time, CAMBRIAN & CLYDACH came out with all guns blazing and looked excellent. Their number 7 (Sam Jones) was superb - brilliant pace and trickery - hope the FAW scouts take note! Their sub, Jamie Crisp (12) was also very decent. Other than Sam Jones in blue, I was actually impressed with the Swans' defense. Matty Blake, the left back and Mael Davies (right back) were both pacey and full of great ball skills. Brandon Cooper (CB) had a no nonsense wonderfully assured performance. Considering that he only turned 17 in January, he would have made Ashley Williams proud ;-) Well done! My disappointment with young Liam aside, I thought both sides were a wonderful testament for the future of Welsh football. www.faw.cymru/en/news/swansea-city-youngsters-lift-faw-youth-cup/?back=/en/news/&pos=1 Some info about the team from Pandy here www.wfleague.co.uk/teams/view/65

Hi MUL, thanks for the report. Did a Tom Dyson play? He's another lad from Pembrokeshire now with a professional contract at Swansea. I thought he was a defender but may be midfield. He is very highly thought of though .

Yes, Liam played 90 minutes on Saturday at Stoke, scoring 2 in a 4-1 win and then played 120 minutes on Sunday.

Brilliant report. I have been to Cambrian a few times this season. They are a great club and I am thrilled that their youth set up is doing so well.

Just to say that Tom Dyson who featured for Swansea in the above match was unfortunately let go at the end of last season, but I'm pleased to say he has been given a contract by Hull City so will hopefully feature for them in the Championship.
Has now started pre season training with them.

Has now started pre season training with them. Liam Edwards(sub) was released by Swansea and has also signed for Hull City. Sam Jones from Cambrian has signed for Barry Town - Welsh Premier needs more southern teams as they sign young Welsh talent unlike the northern ones particularly Bangor,C.Quay and Druids.

Bangor City do actually play Welsh players , they also had Henry Jones who was released from Swansea & left now for a conference team. www.bangorcityfc.co.uk/teams/60084/the-teamSame with connah's quay fc who have a few Welsh players in the squad & have a thriving youth system. www.pitchero.com/clubs/connahsquaynomadsacademy/news/u14-nomads-academy-player-signs-for-manchester-uni-1759168.html I don't know where you got this information from?

Have watched Bangor for over 37 years - current Welsh representation is lowest I can remember. Only 3 in first team squad - Roberts(who might be leaving), Gossett & Edwards.Despite a hugely successful season only 1 of the U19s was offered first team terms-last summer 6 were signed on.Since GTF took over not a single U19 was named on bench even .The very promising Cavanagh was ignored and has gone to Llandudno, likes of Bradley not offered terms despite promise. Legg gave opportunities to youths but GTF prefers vacancies on bench to naming them there. CQ have the 2 Owens - but all of promising youths last few years have left. Also a lot of the youths are Wirral based. Druids mainly play Wirral cast offs from Quay, Bangor, Rhyl etc.
