www.rt.com/sport/396932-russia-fifa-world-cup-tickets-travel/Fans traveling to FIFA 2018 World Cup games in Russia next year will be able to book free train tickets from December / Jan across Russia host cities it has been announced. All fans with tickets for matches will be able to book free rail travel between the 11 host cities from December, an official responsible for transport at the tournament said earlier this week, TASS reported. ---------------- This is a cracking deal BUT if one game is in Moscow and next is Sochi the train is 33 hours between these 2 places.................... hopefully Restaurant car is fully stocked and could you face 33 hrs sat next to a travelling companion. Would love to visit Volgograd as Russians have scheduled a match on June 22 there. This is one of 11 days a year the city is able to call itself "Hero City Stalingrad", in recognition of its WW2 heritage. June 22 was start of Operation Barbarossa....................... a Germany - Russia rematch on that day could have been interesting.

I have fond memories of Volgagrad. I actually took the riverboat all the way up to Moscow - 7 wonderful days ... cost me about £10 at the time ;-)

If we get there I'd love to fly to Beijing and do the transsiberian Express. I heard accommodation is expensive so sleeping on trains could well be the way forward

Anyone planning to go to Russia anyway?
I'm thinking about applying for the games in Kaliningrad just because it's a good opportunity to go there without the hassle of getting a visa. Looks reasonably straightforward to get to via Gdansk too. Hopefully the draw will throw up something interesting there.

Looks reasonably straightforward to get to via Gdansk too. Hopefully the draw will throw up something interesting there. Got tickets for 4 games, applied for 7. Doing St.Petersburg - Rostov - Sochi - Nizhny Novgorod. Hoping for good games.. watching eagerly now. Travelled across the country a few years ago (2015), visiting 11 cities and apart from two incredibly dull places which we only visited to break up the train journey, absolutely loved it. Warm, welcoming people with a great drinking culture and a fascinating history.
