Anyone else thinking of visiting here on their trip to Moldova? We're considering it on the day after the game as we have a full day, and have been advised that there's nothing much to do in Chisinau. Does anyone know of any good ways to get there?
I'm fairly interested in seeing how a self-proclaimed state functions. We probably won't get a great taste of it in a few hours but we are wondering if it's worth bothering with.

I'm considering going on the Monday, from what I gather there is one train there and back each day, but buses are plentiful. On arrival at the border you get a 24 hour visa or you have to register with the local police if staying longer, and they have their own currency and everything! I'd love to go but convincing my mates that it's a better idea than just sitting in a bar in chisinau will be a job I think!

From memory, there is only one regular train a day leaving around 7am and returning around 6pm. Its about 2.5 hours ride. The advantage of using the train is that is is much easier to get the visa/permit/paperwork sorted at the Tiraspol station upon arrival. There is a twice weekly through train to Odessa (Saturday and Sunday) as well as a late night through train to Kiev. If you do take any of the many marshrutkas (every 20-30 minutes from Gare Centralle), BE SURE TO REGISTER and obtain your permit at the border near Bender. Dozens of stories on-line about minibuses that shoot straight through the check point and on your way back, they always stop and check, especially if there are Westerners - often enforcing a hefty penalty for not registering. Probably a scam between drivers and border officials. Minibus fare is around 35 to 50 lei each way, depending on company - autogara.md/orar/ Its free for up to 10-hour transit visa.An interesting blog from last year - www.mywanderlust.pl/daytrip-to-transnistria/

I hire a car and guide for the day, they picked us up and looked after everything, definitely worth the cost.

Put each of these into Google and have a look at the results - loads of info from last year:

NB. The Irish, bless um, often refer to it as "Narnia"!

Me and my mates will definitely be doing the trip, so if anyone wants to do this trip but will be doing it alone they're more than welcome to tag along. I'd understand anyone having reservations about going on their own.

Are you lads planning on a day-trip of under 10 hours or an over-night up to 24 hours?
I still haven't really decided if to go at all, but I certainly have time for it, as i am staying out there through until the Georgia match.

We're flying back on the Thursday so we'll be visiting on the Wednesday.
