it is remarkable that he claims to not know whether one of his grandparents is Scottish or not. i seem to remember that church (lease correct me if i'm wrong), wasn't aware that his grandad was Welsh - that's pretty depressing.

Leigh Griffiths is a Scottish U21 player anyway so I doubt he's be interested even if he does qualify. I've got a random name to throw out. Danny Guthrie of Newcastle United. I've just found out he was born in Shrewsbury. Players from Shropshire usually have some Welsh blood- David Edwards, Craig Davies, Paul Evans etc. In fact, the only England player from Shropshire I can think of is Joe Hart. I know its totally random and Guthrie doesn't sound like a Welsh name, but if Scotland are going to just go round calling people like Kevin Davies, then maybe he's worth a try...

it would totally be worth a try. i may have a browse in a bit and see players who were born in hereford etc.
someone said it in a previous thread when it came out wales had been chasing kanu for years. we have no idea of all the players who have welsh connections. might of already been tried.

Wayne Thomas of Doncaster rovers was born in Gloucester. Not far from the border that, Welsh name too. He is 31 though, so sod that.
I'd be interested to see if Flynn enquires about Marcus Williams, who's just signed to Reading from Scunthorpe. The story with Ashley Williams is that Flynn went to watch Hennessey with Stockport, noticed they had a good central defender with a Welsh name and decided to give it a try. Worked out very well. I'd imagine he'll be in Reading soon to check on HRK and Church anyway...

ye marcus williams was one of the last things discussed on ds i think. last names williams could try it. he is 24 though!

i dont think a welsh sounding name is the way to go as the last few we uncovered were morison and robson-kanu.ha ha.
