By all account Mitchell Clark is getting rave reviews at Villa and talk of promoting him to the seniors, after having a smashing pre-season out in Denmark. Was named in the the team of the tournament in the Hong Kong Sevens (football) back in May and even got a goal v DCFC last week. Not sure if seeing him as a natural replacement to Neil Taylor is a compliment to either or both ... theclaretandview.com/2018/08/01/mitch-clark-ahead-neil-taylor/

Born: 13-3-1999 Versatile defender who has already turned out for Aston Villa seniors last season. Possibly right back is his prime position, but has played left back and on the left side of a back three for Villa seniors this pre-season. Steve Bruce had lots of encouraging platitudes to say of the lad, using the word "devilment". Robert Page may well have to make room for him in the u21s now and in most other generations probably would've been included at that level. If a candidate to be a Welsh international player has a twitter account, I always check their alleigence by having a look to see what they have to say during the summer of '16. Hopefully this saves this thread a few pages of defecting hyperbole......

To my absolute amazement he inboxed me in twitter apologising if any offence had been caused saying he was always proud to play for Wales and that he had been very frustrated and angry that he had been left out of recent Wales youth squads.

Hopefully he can get a call up to the u21s.
Maybe his attitude has been wrong as he should be playing in his respective age group

Interesting info on his frustration. Think he should really get a shot for the u21s if his Villa record is anything to go by. My feelings are if any one of Coxe, Norrington-Davies or Lewis get a lower league loan and first team football, I think they should make way in the u21s and give Clark the experience. Maybe one should make way anyway. Think all four are around the 19 mark. I have a couple of friends who I go to Wales games with who were pretty vocal about their support for England this WC. Which I reckon is fair enough given they are dual nationals. As am I, though I never support England. What matters for me is that players show enthusiasm for Wales... That said, if players are to ever to become a Welsh senior caps, they should be monogamous to Wales on social media for sure.

A little disappointed for him. Hope he has patience to prove Rob wrong and maybe jump right into the seniors in a couple of years :+)

Poor from Page if it was his decision alone. At least try him before you decide he's not up to it but judging from his recent performance reviews I would say he would improve the squad not make it worse.

Is there a reason why everyone is saying that Clark deserves a chance?
There are loads of other players not selected, Page cannot name everyone

Highly thought of at Villa! Wales youth captain at U19’s ... has more experience playing senior football than Norrington-Davies, Aaron Lewis .. and Coxe (not available I know)

Big talk from his agent there. Not sure if it is his genuine belief or just sales talk to get him a new club. Be interesting to see where he goes from here as we had hopes for him at one time. Saying that, I remember Page left him out of a squad last year and some on here questioned that decision but that might have been the first sign that he wasn’t as good as some of us thought.

Over 40 appearances in League 2 at 19/20 would suggest he has some future in the game, but probably not at the highest level

Agree with both last comments that he’s had a decent season with a side but also that an agent could be too involved in his future. Hope it’s not the case 🤞

3yr contract as well which shows they rate him

weird, why would leicester rate him so highly when aston villa wanted to get rid, presumably he was on a very modest contract too (relatively speaking).

weird, why would leicester rate him so highly when aston villa wanted to get rid, presumably he was on a very modest contract too (relatively speaking). Why did they pay 12 million for Danny Ward and however much for James Lawrence? Both players who looked like speculative gambles at best and won't/didn't see much first team action. I suspect they've signed this lad on a free, probably not paying him a great deal and given themselves 3 years to send him on loan back to the level he had established himself at (league two) and develop a reasonable enough profile that a club in the Championship will pay a million or so for him. A modest outlay for potentially a decent return in a year or two. I would be surprised if he makes it to first team level with them seeing as Villa weren't interested. But then one man's lead etc...
