I agree with foxmulder, he's been their best attacker and played really well. He's made three absolutely brilliant crosses, putting it on a plate for benzema, who scored, and Asensio and Marcelo who should have socred. Also been heavily involved in the general play when Madrid have been on the ball. It's just a shame he hasn't had an opportunity to go for goal himself I forgot about the cross for Marcelo, although saying a full back should score from there is egging it on just a touch! If he really has been their best attacker, well...that explains why they are 4-2 down, quite frankly. If you look back at the highlights you'll see a brilliant ball into asensio at the end of the first half where he put him through one on one, but asensio took a heavy touch allowing time for the defender to get back. Madrid fans on twitter were raving about Bale, he had a good game and did what's he's in the team to do - create and score goals and chances.

I probably am being a bit harsh, but at the same time I don't think that the somewhat paranoid narrative that our Gareth is being shunned by his teammates - which has been pedalled a lot on here - is very helpful.
I think to be honest I'm going through a process of adjusting my expectations of Bale. Just because he's brilliant at a lot of things it doesn't follow that he's going to be brilliant at everything, or he may even be poor at some. It's just frustrating that he's not so good at things that seem to me to be relatively easy - like moving in anticipation rather than reactively.

It's just frustrating that he's not so good at things that seem to me to be relatively easy - like moving in anticipation rather than reactively. That's not necessarily an easy skill. Gary Lineker didn't excel at anything other than his anticipation for where the ball would land in the box and he was one of the best strikers around in his day. Ronaldo has that same attribute, while Bale isn't on the same level in that regard. However, Bale is brilliant in other aspects and can make things happen out of nothing like no other player. I'm not disappointed at all in his performance yesterday - as I say, he did what he's in the team to do. I agree with you about the paranoid narrative on here, I didn't see any evidence in the game yesterday of teammates deciding not to pass to him when he was in good positions.

I've had a look back at the match commentary on the BBC site and mentions of Bale are sparse. He should be more of a focal point for them in the absence of Ronaldo right? Quibbling over whether he had 4 rather than 3 contributions to the game just tells it's own story that he ism't involved enough. Whether that is his fault or the team's that is another debate but it is clear that he is not seeing as much of the ball as he should be now that he is free of Ronaldo's influence on the team.

No, he won't be a foca point for them in terms of his involvement in th game because that's not his role. He's a plyer who will be involved farless than most of hist teammates, bit will pop up with decisive and often spectacular contributions by way of goals and assists. Creating three golden opportunities in a match is a very good contribution

Thought it was a decent performance for Bale, ultimately undone by HORRIFIC defending on every goal.

Set up the other goal and also hit the bar in the first half with a cracking diving header.

Another fine goal and classy assist for Bale tonight. He’s now scored in 6 La Liga games in a row, his best run since joining Real.

It’s interesting to see he’s not first choice or even second choice penalty taker at the moment
Perhaps that will soon change
A great second half performance tonight and his hitting some great form before Ireland in a couple weeks

Bale isn't Wales' first choice pen taker so I wouldn't worry about it.

Such a fantastic goal against Girona. Just look at the dip he gets on the shot while running at high speed. I think this will be his year now that Ronaldo has left.

Nice to see the form he's in, a confident Bale vs Ireland Irish confidence in their team seems to be at an all time low. Still gonna be a tough game but with Bale scoring for fun I can't say I'm not a little bit excited for next Thursday. (Feels so good to say I'm seeing Wales next week)

Neh. We don't stand a chance. ROI have a world class defense - any one of them able to walk straight into the Barcelona team ;-)

Really? been reading their forum all week and they think their squad is the worse they've had for years.
One comment was 'There literally isn't one bright spark that has me excited about this squad.' Many others dismayed at the quality they have.
No Brady, no McCarthy, no Rice. The only position they think they're better than us is right back which is fair.
They were nowhere near this depressed last time we played them, it's like they've given up.
