Klopp has repeatedly said how talented Woodburn is, and he's a man who is generally a very good judge of ability. It is disappointing that he hasn't been able to kick on from those Austria and Moldova games, but players develop at different ages. You look at players like Sancho, Hudson-Odoi, Ampadu, 18/19 year olds who are excellent for their age, and they're all pretty much fully grown. For me, Woodburn hasn't quite looked fully physically developed, and he'll continue struggling to make an impact on games until he gets a lot more first team minutes as well. My hopes for him aren't as great as they were 2 years ago, but it's far far too early to be writing him off. As long as plays at Oxford, it'll be a great move for him. Klopp said a lot of positive stuff about Allen...didn't play him though did he! I can't believe people take fluff pieces from managers seriously, they are hardly going to talk one of their players down- they want as much transfer fee money for them as they can get! Agreed that it's too early to write them off but also agree about hopes having diminished.

Moldova sub appearance? Far too early to write off young Ben just yet. It was a figure of speech but, it will be interesting to see how long it takes Woodburn to rack up 10 caps. His next one looks quite a way off. Will he even rack up 10 caps?He already has 10 caps.

If there is one thing that our Welsh supposed football supporters do better than the English is our Self-flagellation. Why on earth should we not celebrate a magical month of football when a 17 year old was very near to dragging us into the WC? And why oh why do they now write off a 19 year-old? Shame on you! How do you define 'celebrate'? It all gets out of proportion in my opinion. Pat him on the back for saving our ass and then move on. Daft nicknames like 'Starman' are OTT at that stage because he was a 17 year old and could be stacking shelves in 5 years time. Let them earn the plaudits in their own time based on appropriate merit. The English comparison is a good one as previously we have taken great amusement in them bigging up their young players or ones like Januzaj (who they wanted to poach) based on one good game. We are just as bad, if not worse. And there's me thinking supporting football was all about going over the top and having a bit of fun

Star man is a brilliant spur of the moment song that summed up the way young Ben exploded onto the international scene.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though, best sit there in silence and bitch about our players online instead.

Should fans be discouraged from chanting about players until they've reached a certain threshold of greatness?

2 assists on the weekend as Oxford won 6-0. Looks like he's enjoying himself there.

No Ben in the Oxford matchday squad last night... anyone know why? rested? injured? dropped? would have been good to see him against premiership opposition.

He's become a key player for them in the number 10 role.
Saving him for the league I imagine, though it would have been nice to see him against West Ham.

Has he - his stats aren't very impressive, 1 goal and 2 assists in 9 league 1 games. Obviously stats aren't everything, but that's the only thing i have to go on. Have you heard he's been playing well then?

I've watched highlights of the last 5 games.
He looks good and is getting better.

His assist for, I think, Oxford's second on Saturday was top drawer. Shame he didn't get one of the six.

That’s the slight concern I have. He’s playing in a team full of goals but has only managed one himself so far

I just hope he is getting lots of minutes and playing football, hopefully the rest will come naturally and he's learning about what I imagine is quite a physical division and adapting and getting stronger, without injuries of course!!

10 appearances this season - all of them were 65' or more. Got two assists on Saturday. I am not worried ;-)

In the u21s squad for the next qualifiers. He'll need to be fighting off Robbie Burton ;-)

Now out for 3 months with a fractured metatarsal. Big blow for him, doesn't seem to have much going his way at present

Please don't do that to me. I was super worried that there was a set-back in his recovery! I am sure he will have a major role to play for Wales - hopefully, already this coming Summer in Saint Petersburg ;-)

It will take a huge shift in form and injuries for Ben to be on the plane.
