I really want to know what the situation is regarding him and the U21's, he's clearly better than a lot of our options. A/ He's refused call ups. or B/ Bodin is useless. I can only assume it's B, because I watched an interview with Bodin at the end of last year where he was asked specifically about Campbell. His response was that he had been to watch him and another Welsh qualified player play for Wolves' u23s a couple of times and was just monitoring the situation. I'm sure DS has also reported a few times that he's been on the reserve list, so looks like he simply isn't being selected

I liked Bodin as a player
However, he is utterly useless as a manager.
I have said many times it looks from the outside looking in that he is having a negative impact on Wales.
Not only are we playing poorly and getting poor results, but this is happening in the absence of him taking risks by pushing through young talent.
He really needs to go. We have recently lost 2 players to other countries recently (James and Hill) and its hard to see why Chem Campbell would want to play for him - Bodin has not even put him on a standby list much has he?
Lets break it down - Chem has comes off the bench for a Premiership team. He is an attacking player that can score goals. He is 20 in December - so he is not exactly immature from an U21 perspective. Makes zero sense to not have a look at him in a 'failing team / squad'.
Bodin is not good enough but unlike other age grade coaches that move on as soon as they can he is not looking like he will be doing likewise, presumably due to a lack of offers, so we really need to be ruthless and move on from him

Back to the days of losing Sheedy to Ireland. Still can't get over the idiocracy of how that happened!
Or of Wales' age groups forgetting about Hargreaves until he rocked up in the Champions League for Bayern!
We can't afford to revisit this level of amateurism again!

We selected him as soon as we were made aware of his eligibility and he played for us at youth level , which was way before he made his first Champions League appearance for Bayern. He was then selected for the under 21s but had to withdraw due to the death of his father, which is when England swooped in. We didn’t ‘forget about him until he rocked up in the champions league for Bayern’

I saw an interview where he claimed he rang up the Welsh selectors for some age grade team and asked if he was going to be selected and they basically dismissed him and told him to wait until the team was announced. He was not selected and decided to accept Ireland's offer to join them. It did not sound as if it was only ever gonna be Ireland!

Of course he came to our attention again when he was doing well at Bayern but by then England were sniffing around him.

www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/put-world-cup-holiday-mags-2453963Sheedy's remarkable story began as a 15-year-old lad from Builth Wells, hoping to get the nod in the Wales under-16 side. But the FAW's refusal to reveal whether or not he'd been picked was a kick in the teeth for the youngster and ended his dream to play for the land of his birth. The Irish, who Sheedy qualified for by virtue of his dad Michael, welcomed him with open arms. "I was born in Builth and lived in Wales for four years before moving to Hereford," reveals Sheedy. "My mum was Welsh and my dad Irish. But when I was selected for the Irish under-16 side I decided to give the Welsh FA a call to see if I was in their squad. "I got a call back where they explained they were not in a position to reveal their plans. "I was hoping to make a decision between Wales and Ireland but in the end the decision was made for me and, having gone on to play in the 1990 World Cup and the European Championships before that, it was a great decision from my point of view." Wales might not agree.

It was a long time ago so our memories may be a little hazy but that’s not the way I remember it. I recall it your way that he was swayed by his dad from Bolton who had more say than his mum who I went to primary school with in Rhyl before the family moved to Canada. However at the time it was my perception that Hargreaves was open to the highest bidder as prior to deciding on England I read in a Canadian newspaper at the time that he was "totally loyal to Canada and would play for them only"

Playing in the Premier League means Chem has to be included for me. Find a way of getting him involved Bosib - even if that means rotating out another player this time

Once again Paul Bodin’s selection policy is nothing short of a disgrace. This lad should have been selected for years now

He probably would not get into their squad but can you imagine if England U21 were the first to select Campbell? The only positive would be that this would have happened twice in quick succession and Bodin would look totally incompetent if it were established that Campbell had never turned him down but that he was apparently unworthy of a squad position for Wales but was for a much larger country.
If it is not his fault then I am sorry but surely we need to acknowledge we have a very, very small playing base. An Anglo with ability must be pushed through the age groups where he has good potentially. I was one of the first here to call out Brennan as someone who could be very special but that was only really seen this season. Even though he had a good debut for our U21, no one before then would have seen proof he would become the player he is today and the player he will become. It was not as obvious as it was for players like Bale and Ramsey at 16/17.
Wake up Wales - there is a big difference between involved a player at a young age - you can establish a strong connection - vs. asking them when they are 20 or 21 when they may in their minds believe they just might make it into one of the big teams in the world / the land of their birth. One has to even worry that Bodin may actually resent players not born / brought up in Wales getting selected ahead of home grown talent - as the way he is currently doing things makes little sense!

The selection policy at U21 level is abysmal. If Chem wants to play for us, he should have been an established member of that squad by now. A lot of people on here have been calling for it, for what seems like years, and him playing Premier League football seems to confirm what we've been saying.

Really?
When he played for our U21 I would be very surprised if anyone was predicting he'd be as good as he is now. There is a big difference between potential and what he is doing now.
At Lincoln I was extremely pleased how productive he was and stated as much on this forum but he still had to do it at the higher level. He has and not only that - he has developed into a high quality finisher.
I did not see a lot of fans agreeing with me when I was furious when Page replaced Wilson with Joniesta (and then Harris) when it should have been direct running, threatening Brennan. I had seen enough in his previous couple of games for Wales to know he was the far better option. He is however another level now than he was at that time
I repeat - the particularly exciting thing about Brennan is his rapid rate of progression, which builds on the fact that he is a natural finisher. I am sure he will flourish in the Premiership

I feel that assuming he stays fit, Brennan will be the one player England will on day regret slipped through their hands. Brooks would have been the another, if it were not for the cruel injury / illness he has had. I would love to see a fully recovered Brooks go to the World Cup in the event we qualify

As soon as he started playing regularly for Lincoln he looked the real deal to most onlookers I think

Well think that is decent progress.
You don't get on for the first match of the season unless the manager thinks you are capable of doing something

I know it looked bad when he turned down a call up (but was on standby at the time) but again I blame Bodin as much as anyone. He must be decent to come off the bench and yet last year he was not good enough to get into our mediocre U21s? Maybe he does not want to play for us or maybe he felt insulted and did not want anything to do with a setup that ignored him despite him being of higher quality than many of the players there?

Got some time at the end of the match v Man City today.
He’s been promoted permanently to senior team now.
Will we ever see him in a Wales shirt again?

Best to put him in the Darlow / Dummett compartment.
If they don't feel much of an affinity to Wales then let it go.

He's only ever had brief cameos when they've been losing games. I still haven't seen enough to suggest he's good enough at senior level to warrant serious consideration I can't see him ever starting for this Wolves team and he needs a loan really

Best to put him in the Darlow / Dummett compartment. If they don't feel much of an affinity to Wales then let it go. Yes, Danny Collins is another. In each case we had people blaming the manager rather than the player, Dummet was supposedly Coleman’s fault, Collins was Toshacks fault and now Campbell is Bodin’s fault. Yet in each case, when the manager supposedly guilty of stopping them playing for Wales left and the players were approached by the new manager, it turned out that it was the player who wasn’t really interested all along. The only exception to this is Darlow who has turned down every Wales manager. If you look at the record of each player, were they really that much of a loss to Wales anyway? In most cases they had a very short purple patch where they had a bit of a run in the team but faded pretty quickly and if you look at their career as a whole ,it isn’t that impressive.
