Young defender who has been with the club since an early age. He made the step up to the Under-18s squad as a first-year scholar in the summer of 2018 and made two appearances for Neil Ryan's side during that season - one as a starter and another as a substitute. Despite being born in Blackpool, he has represented Wales at various youth levels. He will be learning to deal with the rigours of life at the higher level but has gained plenty of experience throughout the youth system and looks at home at right-back or the heart of the back four. www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/detail/oliver-denham

"Ollie Denham has come through that game and he looked like a Rolls Royce - he's cruised it. He isn't going to have much tougher opponents than he has had today. He has now put himself right in the mix with the other defenders going forward." - Steve Morison
With (Sean) Morrison out injured for the rest of the season and (Steve) Morison's insistence on playing 3 CBs, there's a strong possibility that Denham gets more chances during the back end of the season. As it stands the only senior CBs available are Flint, Nelson and McGuinness, though Ng started at RCB in our last two league games. Nelson is shockingly bad and has been left out of the squad altogether the past couple of games so there's a good chance Denham could be the CB on the bench moving forward.

I think that going forward Ng is part of that group of centre backs and will only go back out to wing back if there's another injury, but Denham definitely did himself no harm and has looked good for the u23s as well this season I think Nelson's been injured recently but as you say he's been dreadful this season, Denham should definitely get some opportunities in the league

What are your thoughts on McGuiness? He looks much worse than Nelson to me, so Denham should have a decent chance of overtaking him too. I have no idea what he was doing for that third goal on Wednesday, where he slipped and unfathomably waited a couple of seconds before picking himself up, thereby unable to get a block in. I found it bizarre. He shouldn't have been beaten by Jota for the first goal either given the difference in size!

I found it bizarre. He shouldn't have been beaten by Jota for the first goal either given the difference in size! He can be hit and miss and definitely has a mistake in him but on the whole he's been one of Cardiff's only bright spots this season. He's young and he's the only CB we've had all season that can actually pass a ball (up until Ng's recent move to RCB anyway), so his occasional blunder or two are usually forgiven. He's also a threat in the opposition box. Nelson on the other hand seems to be to blame for at least one goal per game, doesn't have age or footballing ability on his side and doesn't score so doesn't get the same benefit of the doubt. Realistically I don't think Denham starts if everyone's fit though. I think there's a good chance the back 3 of Flint, McGuinness and Ng will be set in stone for the rest of the season now barring another injury or calamitous performance. But I feel Denham has done enough to work himself up to being the bench CB. Who knows with Morison though, he seems to love ripping the youngsters down as soon as they build up an ounce of confidence for some reason.

A competent centre back that can play on the right of a three would be very handy for the future, I like the look of us with a back three, wing backs and Ethan in front of them.

Surprised he got picked ahead of Lockyer I am as well, but it seems like he's on the hunt for a new CB. Lockyer, James Lawrence & now Cabango seem to be out of favour. They're obviously not impressing Page enough, whereas Denham has a lot of potential. Time is on side for Cabango to get back in, but I think for the other two their time is probably up

Is Cabango out of favour or just injured? He was in the Austria squad and seemed to be doing decently enough for the Swans up until the injury

I wonder why he's been picked ahead of Lockyer? Lockyer 28 this year, I don't think they expect Lockyer to move beyond his current level. I'd imagine Denham is seen as a potential top flight CB

And surely we need some experience (however much) with 5 games coming up? He did pull out of a squad not long ago, under strange circumstances though. It's all quite peculiar. Page mentioned before about not wanting to make many drastic changes to his squad - keeping things consistent, yet he's now leaving out the likes of J Lawrence and Lockyer in favour of some newer names. Just......odd.

Just......odd. He definitely has put a foot wrong on quite a few occasions - the game against Croatia comes to mind where he was mostly at fault for the goal. He's been in and out of Luton's team even with them having loads of injuries, pretty sure he's not first choice there. However, I agree with you that ordinarily we would expect a mid to lower level championship defender to be part of the squad. That squad where he dropped out without it ever being explained may well have been the deciding factor.

Judging by this pic, Denham looks a tad taller than 5'11"
