He looks great. Scored an amazing goal for Palace against Wolves U23's the other week. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NkT_CCcjrs (2 mins 50 in to this clip) He's played virtually every minute for Palace U23's this season (532 minutes out of 540), starting all six games, scoring three goals, assisting two and winning a penalty. His three goals makes him their top scorer and Palace fans on twitter have been raving about him. Sion Spence by comparison has only played 90 minutes for Palace U23's this season. He has represented Scotland twice in friendlies at U19 level, and it's a shame for us that we're unable to play U19 games as he'd be ideal really but even then in terms of potential he looks good enough for the U21's. I'd say moving forward after this squad, when a lot of the older lads are no longer eligible for U21 football, it'd be great to have him in to step in to that gap if he's up for it.

If he's that good shouldn't he be in the actual squad? Especially considering how poor the u21's have been at times over the past year.

As great as It is to have as many players as possible available in as big a talent pool as possible, I find it strange that a few players who are born in Scotland, went to school in Scotland played in the Scottish league and for Scotland youth, decide to change their allegiance to us.
For some reason I find this more unusual than if an English born youngster commits to us (not sure why)
Anyway, great news, welcome on board.

Yeah he probably should be, in terms of how they're all doing at U23 level he'd be doing enough to start but perhaps they want the lads who've started the campaign to have the opportunity to play their final games for the side. Going in to next year, it should be a very different looking Welsh U21 side, and hopefully he's at the heart of it. He looks a really exciting players.

Fair enough if he grew up supporting Wales through his Gran, if he was very close to her but that just doesn't seem the case (the supporting Wales bit, not being close to his Gran). It just doesn't add up to me, why he would choose us, but if he has then awesome.

Scotland somehow lost prize asset Karamoko Dembele to England, also McGeady and James McCarthy to Ireland, as well as Houghton and Coyle historically. I don’t think they’ve got their youth system correct for whatever reason. Long may it continue.

For some reason I find this more unusual than if an English born youngster commits to us (not sure why) Anyway, great news, welcome on board. It is really weird, and weirder than an English born youngster. I guess in part because we're not a bordering nation, and we so often get English border town/city players who have close connections to the area. I think it's firstly a credit to the setup we've got here, which is clearly excelling, where as I'm not sure the SFA are running things nearly as smoothly. I also think there's less competition for places in terms of an U21 place, as Scotland are slower in promoting the more talented players in to their first team and I think there's a much clearer and quicker path to playing first team international football. Having Brennan Johnson training in our first team squad for the last couple of squads has shown the clear path from U21 to first team. Billy Gilmour has so much potential (arguably even more than Ampadu), but has yet to be given any first team opportunity, and has been restricted to U21 football, if he was in our set up he'd be looking at being on 10-15 first team caps right now. There's more depth to Scotland first team squad as they're a bigger nation, which is perhaps part of the reason for them doing this, but the Scottish side just isn't there to give a nudge or a boost to a young players career, it's completely dependent on the player to do it consistently at club level for some time and then there'll be the opportunity for them. Taylor and Banks are more likely to get full caps for Wales, even though we're a better international side. Lewis Ferguson has played nearly 100 games for Aberdeen, as their star man at 21 and hasn't got close to a call up. The youngest player in their squad is Greg Taylor at 23, we've got ten players younger than him in our squad.

This was the first game of the season against West Brom, two goals and an assist in this game for him. Generally on the left-wing, but did drift to the right at times, very left-footed but looked full of creativity and in the mould of someone like David Brooks. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rhsDSa8hyU

Sounds like he’s playing well and captaining CPFC’s u23s today, although trivial one comment suggesting he’ll be a PL player in the next two years. Interestingly Siôn Spence not in their squad today.... Hopefully Bodin calls Banks up as a +1, he certainly merits involvement imo.
Just bagged an assist, and heavily involved for another by the sounds of things. Scored a penalty that he won himself.
I’m willing to chip in £10 for a London to Cardiff private jet for him.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_TAZgpn27QHighlights from today there, he set up Palace's second and fourth goals from corners, and scored their sixth having won another penalty. Reading are no mugs either, they're a decent academy side and were above Palace in the league until today. Top comment on the highlights "Scott Banks needs to be in the first team", and there's every chance he makes his debut in the cup or something this season. Ability wise, he's comfortably good enough to be in the U21 squad, that's 8 goal contributions in 7 games for him now this season, and he's certainly due a step up in to the professional game even if it's a League 1 loan.

No, definitely right-wing, wearing #7 and liking to cut inside on his left. Has drifted out to the left wing at times. Think someone commented that he was in the left-back position at one stage, but he's definitely a winger.

Not a position we are struggling for at the moment, but if he gets any senior games he could force himself into the reckoning

been a lot of talk of scott getting a first team chance, he played a massive role in palace u23s 4-3 victory over sunderland. he’s been training with the first team recently also.

Feels like he could be a bit of a Brooks - a break out star. If he does get time for Palace and does well he could easily get straight into our senior setup

Robert from Zagreb might take issue with that ;-)

Not to be cynical, but I think there might’ve been a motive of alerting Scotland to his services by accepting a position on our stand-by list. Now this move has been finalised he will be right under the SFA’s noses. Hope I’m wrong though.
