Just back from DJing, saw the result, really pleased for her, I think she's going to have one hell of a career, a proper boxer, no gimmicks. The only thing I'd say as a totally ignorant observer is why does she never knock someone down? When I watched her in the Olympics I noted she was really good and fast but the punches did not look that powerful. Yesterday - her punches did look more powerful but despite dominating - her opponent was still standing at the end. I only ask as that ability can really make a difference in the big, big fight and a heavy puncher would presumably feel they could take a few more risks moving forward. As stated I speak as a non expert. Joe Calzaghe was similar, especially towards the back end of his career - so it does not need to stop you! I think on the whole you tend to get less stoppages in women's boxing, two minute rounds doesn't help as regardless of what happens in those two minutes, for me, it doesn't compare to going into the ring knowing that you have three minutes to focus. Also what Price hasn't done in her career is fight absolute nobody's like a lot of boxers do early on, the classic "Latvian Cab Driver". Don't get me wrong, the pool of talent in women's boxing across the weights is largely horrendously shallow and we've seen fairly rubbish fighters get opportunities and become World Champions off of the back of their looks and persona (Bridges and Courtenay are rubbish) rather than ability because it's been so easy to guide them in that direction, using kickboxers, weight bullying and rubbish narratives to build records, so it's not like Lauren has been going in with elite opponents but she's definitely started out against higher grade opposition than most British fighters but I think the KO's will come. I think it's refreshing, seeing as Katie Taylor is on her way out, that we have people like Price flying the flag for the sport, women's boxing in this country is flirting dangerously with being over sexualised with Ebanie Bridges (Aussie I know but lives here and is signed to a British promoter) and Elle Brook (Onlyfans pornstar) the absolute worst for it. The lack of coverage of Nina Hughes, an undefeated World champion who beat the opponent Shannon Courtenay lost her belt to, is absolutely criminal in my eyes, it genuinely upset me when I saw pics of her happy with her belt and nobody giving a shit.

Cordina wasn't anywhere near his best in a really crap venue at the weekend. I've thought it for a while but the weight cut looks like it's starting to take its toll on him. I think realistically he has two fights left at the weight and in his career and then he needs to get out of there. Take O'Shaquie Fosters belt and then set up a big domestic fight at the Cardiff City Stadium with Leigh Wood, beat him, get the payday and sail off into the sunset, an unbeaten, two time and unified World Champion.

Only 31 though. I'm all for Boxers getting out of there earlier rather than later however, as someone who presumably knows more than me (as little more than a casual fan), would he have a chance at accepting the weight issues and having a go at Devin Haney at Lightweight??

I think with Joe turning 32 in three weeks and all these fights being mentioned for Haney it could take 18 months to two years to get a fight on and by then it's too late for him, in my opinion. In an ideal World he'd have fought and beaten Zelfa Barrett at the weekend in Cardiff, called out Foster and then once he'd taken his belt call out Wood. Saturday has raised doubts purely because Vasquez was more game than people expected and had a go. Cordina edged it but not as convincingly as many thought he would. I just don't know if, after all the injuries, all these weight cuts, he'd be able to go up a weight and fight elite level guys at that weight, a bit like when Lee Selby had to jump two weight classes after he realised that the cutting was absolutely killing him, he just didn't have enough left, even at 135lbs although it's worth noting that he was, clearly in my eyes, robbed against Kambosos Jr who went on to become a unified World Champion. Another thing in regards to Cordina v Haney, I just don't think Haney would even entertain it, that guy only wants the absolute top dogs now, he's not interested in tricky tests with our fighters, his fight with Prograis next month should be a mad one, Prograis is one tough lad.
