Will Evans, 24 year old striker formerly of Bala and Cardiff Met, has signed for Newport. Great to see yet another Cymru Prem player make the move to the EFL. He looks like a really good finisher from what I've seen. Scored a brace for Wales C against England C a couple of months ago. Here's a compilation of his goals put together by Sgorio: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bVUQ3dWfsA

Mixed feelings really.
On the one hand, it's a pity he's out of contract and leaves without a fee for Bala. And they lose out on one of their very best players before they play in Europe next season, so lessens their chances of going through the rounds.
On the other hand, as gimli says, good to see players move to a English football league club, and the mainly higher standard. Hopefully he'll make a success of it and people see that others who remain in the Cymru Premier are of a good standard too (and go and watch some games).
Pob lwc Will.

A results starter now, scored a few goals, and moving in the right direction.

Did he play in the Wales England C match earlier this year? I remember a Welsh striker looking a lot better than that standard, and Evans rings a bell.

After being played as a wing back for most of last season, he's finally been played up front this. 3 goals in 2 games.
Not saying he's international standard, but I'd have said the same about a few others not that long ago.

And another one last night away to Crewe.
We seem a very weird side this season, with results so far being 0-3, 3-1, 4-0, 2-4. Certainly not going to be boring by the looks.
Difficult to see how Evans doesn't stay up front after this start. Hopefully he can get 20 by Christmas and bag us a shed load of cash and a move elsewhere.

Two more today already, 6 in 5 games this season, if anything remotely like this kind of form carries on he might be worth a look, we're rubbish at scoring goals

What's his hold up play like? He seems to be a good athlete and knows where back of the net is albeit at a lower level.

He was the best player on the pitch by a mile when the England Wales C match was on last year or before.
Shame he's 26, but maybe just enough time on his side to move swfitly up the ranks. If he scores 20+ this season I wouldn't be surprised if a ch'ship club came in for him.
Impressive how quickly he's adapted from the Cymru Premier to League 2.

Championship level minimum for getting a call up by the looks of it for certain postions. Difference for Will is he's been given an opportunity. There are probably countless lads playing in the Cymru Prem who could make that step up just no teams willing to take a punt.

Ireland have an a 6ft 2 inch teen in the Premiership throwing off remarkable goalscoring stats akin to Rooney at that age and we are focussing on a 26 year old playing in the lower leagues
Why did we stop producing goalscorers? Bale was an exceptional talent - not limited to goalscoring, but how I wish we had an out and out prolific goalscorer.
The main hope is Morgan but he is well behind someone like Ferguson who is only a little older. Brennan is not an out and out goalscorer (at present) and wish he had Ferguson's work ethic and physicality!

Honestly don't think we've "stopped" producing them ,historically good goalscorers are rare as rocking horse shit

26 is young, he has 5-8 years at the top of his game left, he's come into the pro game late and clearly taking his chance. I'm hoping to get to a game to watch him soon so I can see him in the flesh but if this goalscoring run continues I think he becomes almost undeniable, this is Kieffer Moore style career trajectory and even he wasn't having prolific spells like this until he put a Cardiff shirt on. I know it's a bit extreme, calling up a guy from League Two, I just think that he deserves to be looked at, especially if Paul Mullin is.

You’d think that the Irish fans would have more respect for such a servant to their country but some of our fans are just as bad, look how Jonny Williams was treated by many of our fans on social media because of the division he played in.

I must admit I admire McLean in the way that he's happy to call out certain things and speak his mind. He's bang on the money with that. Adam Le Fondre has started scoring goals again at the age of 36 in the SPL, he was finished as a Championship level player 5 years ago or so. After Celtic and Rangers there isn't much between any of the other sides and most of League Two.
On Will Evans, I'm honestly up for at least having a look at him, who knows where this rise will end and how good and useful he could be? Big, strong versatile lad who could be a real handful for the likes of Armenia and Latvia. One of the upsides with Wales is that these kind of stories can happen, a player coming from nowhere, turning pro and getting a shot at international football.

Goal machines can move up leagues. Vardy is proof of that.

Goal machines can move up leagues. Vardy is proof of that. Never liked this type of logic, because the basic premise is that putting the ball in the back of the net is the same at every level. But if that's the case, why not call up Chris Venables who's been banging in 20-30 goals in the Cymru Prem for the last 15 years? He obviously wouldn't be able to replicate that at the highest level - the same applies to prolific League 2 strikers. Obviously there are exceptions, but they only serve to prove the rule.

I much prefer his story and rise to Paul Mullin's tbh. A pure product of the FAW/Welsh football.

Heartbreaking for County to concede so late, really pleased for Evans though, it is one hell of a story, a good advert for Welsh football, long may it continue.
