Why do we have so many Jocks dominating football discussions? The 70s were 40-50 years ago! They have been shit for 20+ years now! Seriously - ESPN have 2 mediocre ex Scottish players giving their take on Wales-Netherlands. Why www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY2oc97LfUMWales are a hard watch They don't have good players just Bale US are a better team and will outplay them Discuss how Netherlands had their B team out vs us in Cardiff but don't reflect a lot of our team were reserves for that match Seriously such miserable amateurs. I may not want them to do well all the time, but if I see quality or something positive in Scotland or Ireland - I recognise and acknowledge it. What is wrong with them? How can they get paid for such rubbish? They actually hate us don't they. Scotland just have the nasty green eye and Ireland have the snide green eye. I have a reluctant admiration when our Celtic cousins do well. Why are we such a threat to them? We are not arrogant and are a tiny country. They are really weird aren't they?

Pure jealousy. Nothing more.
I find some of the Irish to be worse than the Scots tbh, probably as we've played so often recently. YBIG forum had a few posters saying they want Wales to lose to England at the world cup. Says it all when you've got Irish people wanting England to win. The bitterness is unbelievable. Wouldn't kill them to say "you know what Wales have done really well with their resources, fair play to them. I hope we can emulate them." Let's face it when we were watching the Irish qualify for World Cup 2002 and Euro 2012, we all hoped that would be us someday. (I'm too young to remember Scotland last qualifying in 98 so can't comment on that, lol).
Anyway, wouldn't let it bother you. Never had problems with Celts who I've met in person, just a few saddos on the internet. If anything it makes me even prouder how much it bothers some of them that we are doing so well. I'm sure the majority will be wishing us well in Qatar.

I really like how despite the evolution of the sport in recent years there are still no standards whatsoever when it comes to punditry. Doesn't seem to matter how much of a rambling, out of touch, decrepit arsehole you are....as long as you played professionally once upon a time the job's yours. Nice work if you can get it.

Always felt the jocks have a chip on their shoulder! Some sort of superiority due to their standard of players 35 yrs ago. The fact is any person under 30 up there probably doesn’t remember them in a WC. I spent time up there working for a few months recently and their pundits think hardly any of our team would get into theirs other than Bale. They think Gordon is better than our two. 😂. Davies wouldn’t get in their back 3 cos of Tierney and Robertson for Scotland, who is bang average for them gets in ahead of Neco who has been incredible for us. I’m going to enjoy listening to the pundits during the WC as not a sweaty will be in sight. What they forget is our defence is different level to theirs and they’ll be around for the next decade other than Davies. What I hope is that young Savage and Popov comes good and Colwill can dramatically improve his athleticism as midfield is where we struggle for depth.

Their forums are the worst for me.
The Scottish Pie and Bovril forum and the Irish Ybig forum are full of some pretty jealous and spiteful individuals. I've seen some comments where they'd support England over us.
Has it always been this way? I'm in my 30's so I don't know how well we got along in the past. My dad used to say the Scots in particular could be an awkward and nasty bunch.
Anyway, didn't the last thread about this get deleted so I imagine this will as well.

A few weirdos online, but every Celt I've met in person supports us over England every time
ESPN is a different kettle of fish all together. No matter where the person is from, whoever they have on chats absolute nonsense! Less a symptom of being Scottish pundits, and more just the awful American coverage

Everyone loved Jack Charlton’s Ireland. They played a terrible brand and were draw specialists. The Welsh just are not everyone’s cup of tea.

The Scottish pundits seem as delusional as the English ones especially at the last euros. Very overrated squad but think they are world beaters.

They are a great bunch of people, and I think the FAW did a masterstroke in basing their camp in Brittany during the Euro's in 2016.

I was talking to James Collins at a charity cricket game in our village yesterday evening. You'll be pleased to hear he's been taken on by the BBC for the punditry in Qatar. Fair play a really nice bloke and a very good cricketer. Way ahead of anyone else on the field with the ball and the bat.

Interesting if so because I just had a DNA analysis back from my grandmother. 99% Welsh, and 1% Basque!

I think as much as we love an underdog people just like the comfort of similarity. I think if it came down to qualifying between us and England Scotland/Ireland would secretly want England to win. I think it scares people that we have improved and that we're better than them. It's upset the balance and they can't accept it.

This was pre Anglo Saxon obviously.

Some Irish and Scottish folk would rather it be just England who qualify if they can't themselves, because everyone expects England to be there so it's not a big deal. Of the last 3 tournaments we've qualified for, this is the first time that we've qualified and neither of Scotland, Ireland or Northern Ireland have. We don't need to compare ourselves to these countries but naturally we live amongst UK and Irish media, so the comparisons will always be discussed. They're green with envy, and I'll love every second of it

Evidence of the language exist in place names only and was not written or recorded

Alwasys dreamed that we could emulate the other Celtic nations' success. Now we've actually done it it feels amazing, but I'm a bit surprised at the negative vibes from some of the Scottish/Irish fans. As you say, I guess it's just jealousy, but it's hard to get my head around the idea that other Celts might be wishing for England to win (at our expense). However, what a time to be alive!

Scotland have been to 8 World Cups & 3 European Championships. They have won a total of 6 matches across 11 tournaments & of course we all know they have never, ever got past the group stage.
We’ve been to 3 tournaments, got to one semi-final & a quarter-final & on both occasions it took the best player in the world to knock us out. The other time we qualified we got out of the group against all odds. We’ve won 6 games at Finals too, but with 8 less attempts.
Any Scot who wants to argue that their competitive record at Finals is better than ours is living in dreamland.
They’ve been making up the numbers at every tournament they’ve ever been at.

Rep Of Ireland is not that great. The Romania game on penalties ultimately goes down as a draw in the stats over 90 mins. They have a few marquee results against the Italians and England but you couldn’t compare it to Belgium 2016 Quarter Final.

They dong need the FAI or SFA to do it, start with the grassroots. I looked at Iceland and took on some stuff from them into my coaching.
