FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT THE 3-DAY TRANSPORT THING
I got confirmation - first from TripAdvisor and now from the official Rigassatiksme via email: They have temporarily reversed their price increase plus the previous one-route only policy (that many websites talk about)!
3-DAY PASS is now valid on all routes and for all transport modes (including bus 22 from airport). It is valid until the last departure on the third day (its not 72-hours...) IT COSTS €8 - from kiosks or from the automated machinnes.
The 24-HOUR thing is similar - and costs €5 The 5-DAY thing is similar - and is a bargain €10 90-minute pass is €1.50 (any amount of transfers before minute 89)
That said, most of Riga is very walkable - and even the stadium is a 2 mile walk from old town.

A recent post found on another site....
"Riga has literally hundreds of bars and restaurants, and to be fair most of them are at least decent. Don't think I've really had a bad meal since I've lived here. Prices in the old town are higher.
Prices wise, hard for me to compare as I've not been in UK since cost of living crisis shot prices up everywhere, but I would say a beer is prob about 4 - 5 euro.
Food wise it all depends on what you like eating, but say for example a well made burger and fries in a decent bar would be 10 - 12 euros, a pizza around 10ish
Enjoy your weekend. Weather is set to be nice at the moment".

Latvia just lost by the narrowest of margins to Germany... Quarter final of the World Cup... basketball... The locals were going ballistic in the pubs around lunchtime... appears that football (especially our game) is totally insignificant...
Plenty of large squares in the old town where one can has quiet kvas or mineral water :+)

Really looking forward to this one, been waiting to draw them for a while. Waiting for my first taste of Black Balsam

Riga Black Balsam is a traditional Latvian balsam often considered to be the national drink of Latvia.

Had a walkabout in the art nouveau area of town. Alberta iela (street) is a mere 500m from the Stadium! You should certainly integrate it into your Walk-in on match day!
Personally, I was MUCH more impressed with ALberta and Elizabete streets architecture than with the so called "old" town. Quite frankly, I'd say Barry town has more historical buildings... I imagine that first the allies and then the germans had a lot to do with that...

Anyone travelling to Riga tonight - anyone there already?!!
Sunshine and 23% forecast for Monday - take your bucket hat and water bottle.
A beautiful Baltic city beckons.
The sights and the bars will be great, but nothing will be as sweet as a precious 3 points.

Appropriately 2km, no idea on a recommended route to take you past bars but I suspect there will be a few that you will pass whichever route you take.

A nice route would be old town to the National Theater (800m) then a lovely bridge across the canal and very nice park walk towards Alberta iela (800m) loads of bars/restarants along Elizabete iela and it's another 800m from there to stadium - totally lived-in neighborhood - so loads of cafes/kiosks and supermarkets up to stadium

TALLINN STREET QUARTER
I kept putting this off, as Google seemed to think it's only open Wednesday to Saturday AFTER 6pm. Well, it's fully open now Sunday lunchtime... but sadly, not very busy. Loads of trendy bars, run by students - very peaceful and I certainly recommend it ahead of "old" town. It's a very tame and smaller version of CPN Christiana. No beanbags or hammocks - but a nice family friendly vibe (at least in the daytime) Pints for €3.50,burgers for €4 and chips for €3. OPEN UNTIL 2200 today , and even tomorrow till 23h!

Great trip. Must say that Riga was wildly more expensive than last time and the budget went out of the window very quickly. Was a futile struggle to find any reasonably priced bars.

You obviously didn't try the aircraft hangers at the market, €1.55 for 0.5 ltr, spent a great deal of time there on Monday with loads of Wales mates and spent very little cash 😁👍

Managed to find a wine bar that did €7 pizzas and €3 Aperol Spritz, but most other places were fairly expensive. Was really impressed with the city though, so clean and well looked after, a few nice parks, etc.

What happened though about inside the ground? Thought that Skonto Stadium had capacity of say 10,000 but television commentators said that the attendance was 6,000 with 900 Wales fans present. Surely those latter figures were wrong? It certainly seemed as though there were many hundreds more of us there, in various locations all over the place! The noise levels too gave the impression of there being a total attendance of well over 6k.

The marketplace was great. Loads of food stalls selling every kind of food. A good fill for about 4 euros. Beer €1.50 , even the 8% real ale was only €2.50. Wine €2.50 for a 500ml bottle and glass. Then it was a case of picking the right bars in town for the €3 pint. They were there. The big tourist pubs obviously dearer, 5 - 7 euros a pint.

Wondering if anyone on here travelled with Wonky Sheep for this game? The first flight out was entirely cancelled, one of the returns was hours late. Haven't heard anything about the standard compensation and Wonky Sheep won't provide any sort of clear update. I wondered if anyone else has heard anything or received the compensation?

The second time we went to Baku we went with "can't recall his name" but he did organised trips back in the day, it was an absolute nightmare which saw one plane load getting back a day later than the other plane. The one and only time I went with "a travel expert company" So much better sorting it yourself. There was no talk of compensation. What the hell was his name?

Have you emailed the FAW about it? Wonky are supposed to be the official travel partner so the FAW should be aware of the situation. I’ve never liked their extortionate prices, feels like a hell of a mark up, so not surprised they’ve dodged compensation

As you say, very high prices, and all the individually organised trips I've done have been smoother, ironically.

As you say, very high prices, and all the individually organised trips I've done have been smoother, ironically. I've only used them the once, Baku for the Euros in 21 and I must say they were brilliant. Fantastic organisation particularly with all the extra hassle for that trip. I nearly came back from Qatar with them but by the time they got back to us we'd booked elsewhere. On the cost, they're clearly more expensive but that's the cost of the convenience of having an aircraft waiting to fly when it suits. Leaving Cardiff in the morning and enjoying a drink that evening at your destination just about anywhere in Europe. Getting up the day after the game, having breakfast, making your way to the airport, getting on flight and back home in time for tea. Places like Yerevan, Tbilisi and Baku you could well be looking at another day off work at either end to achieve that. That's without the issue of getting to and from the main airports. If I lived in South Wales, younger and more pressure on my time then I'd use them more often. But I'm 10 miles from Stansted and winding down as far as work goes. There's plenty of people happy to use them so their offer obviously appeals to enough for them to operate. They do need to deal with their obligations on delays though. Personally I'd probably let them away with it, they got you to your destination in the end. The low cost carriers you want to to compare them with on price, will generally leave you high and dry no matter where you are.
