Rather pathetic from a country with one of the largest player pools in the world.

England doing their due diligence to be fair. We’d do the same.
He’s captained our youth and is being fast-tracked, so knows our system rate him highly. I’d like to think our Welsh-bred contingent (at the very least) would have that loyalty towards us.

Charlie Crew was born in Wales was he not? If he also grew up here then why on earth would he want to join then on the chance of getting a friendly cap in the future, when he can play for the country he is connected to where he could well be central to a future Welsh team.
Really a bit pathetic if a massive country like England are going after players with small links to their country. Same happened with Neco and he told them to do one, as did Bale!

Charlie is as Welsh as they get. His whole family out in Budapest was saying nothing gives him more pleasure than wearing that armband. I feel that we have another potential Ampadu-style leadership here. Time will tell ...

I love the fact that sometimes England fans mock Wales (and Ireland and Scotland) for selecting players born outside the country, yet they make all attempts to do the same themselves, the only difference being that they’re less successful at it.

Depends what the connection is. I mean if he's got two English parents for instance it would be understandable him considering himself at least part English (same as if a player was born in England to Welsh parents they might reasonably see themselves as Welsh, as I'm sure some forum members are). If its a one granny connection like Wilson though then there's gonna be nothing in it....I doubt there ever was with Wilson. I can't see England going down that route and nothing to get hot and bothered over.

I regularly argue with their fans on twitter about this sort of stuff. One of them said before "why would we go after your youth players, they are all crap apart from Bale". I proceeded to send him links to stories about them attempted to take Ampadu, Brooks, Woodburn, Brennan, Wilson, Neco, JJ, Luke Harris, and he went all quiet. If you add in Crew to that list that will be 9 of our future squad members who have all been courted by England at one point or another. The idea that they are not interested in Welsh talent is ridiculous

Good, hopefully that's the end of that. Nice to see him back up in the u21s
Wonder if he'll get some gametime in the FA Cup if Leeds get an easy draw?

I saw him 3 times in Budapest and a couple of times for Leeds. He is still 17 (turns 18 in June) and from what I saw of him, he is a very different player to Gray. More of a 6 - Joe Allen/Ampadu style player. I'm looking forward to seeing him and Koumas in Newport next week ;-)

On the bench. Congrats, Charlie. lad! This probably confirms he's the youngster who was recently in the manager's thoughts, after watching him during an age group training session.

Good for him, hope he gets 20mins if Leeds are cruising. Its been one-way traffic for first 30' and not in the right direction ... United 1-0 down now. That's what you get when you break up the Rodon-Amps duo and put Amps back in mid-field.
BRING ON CHARLIE!
UPDATE Conceding 2nd goal from open play in the first half. 2-1 down now...
Amps back in defence and Charlie on - come on Farke!

More praise from the manager here. He appears to let slip though that Crew was withdrawn from our u21s during the international break in order to train with Leeds' first team while so many of their players were away (i.e. it wasn't due to injury as I think was reported at the time). Ultimately, it was a good opportunity to make an impression and he seems to have taken it, which is good for his development and for us - although slightly concerning perhaps that he was willing to skip an important u21 qualifier given England's chasing of him in the past. www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/not-gift-leeds-united-cannot-28934378

Lot of players away, injuries, big games coming up. This is your chance to impress in training etc etc... And you have to say it's worked out well for him. His 'online presence' still features Wales quite strongly and he's always expressed his honour at representing Cymru in the past. Plus if he now picks England half the Leeds team won't speak to him!
