What an utterly dreadful game to willingly agree to. Shambolic laziness from the FAW. Give a cap to Joe Taylor and an overdue appearance vs Gibraltar to Luke and I’ll be somewhat happy.

I'm still hoping that the U17 will at least make the semi in Cyprus, but even if I leave them at the quarters, there is precious zillch (cheapish) flights. And no direct flights - at least that I can see - bwtween Cyprus to Portugal ;-(
They could have done a Vatican City or Liechtenstein, friendly - at least that would have been on-route!!

We'll learn absolutely nothing here, mint. Nice trip for the blazers and their wives. A poor test for our players unless he plays the kids, which he probably will, and keep the men for Slovakia. It's still a poor test for the kids, Gibraltar don't even have a player who plays in the EFL

I don't get this. They've already been introduced to football and are already playing against better opponents. It's the same rules in international football. I guess they might use trips like this to gauge player dynamics/togetherness or try a new system... but even then, it's hard to take any information from the game itself. Good for young players to build confidence early in their careers for us. If we played someone like Georgia/Romania for example you could see our youngsters getting the runaround and straight away their confidence may take a hit A comfy win and these players may feel on the up and up, want to chase more and get good loan moves in search of regular games to get in the squad in future I don't buy that, players need to be tested. Even if they're given the runaround by Georgia I'd feel more confident in them making an impact competitively having had that experience rather than walking about against Gibraltar It'll be attack vs defence for 90 minutes and the players learn nothing. It's a poor introduction to international football as it isn't at all like any of the other games they'd play. An end of season friendly against Slovakia is a great way to test players and we should be putting in youngsters/reserves to that as well

Yeah that’s my thoughts. End of a long season, no Euros for us, this will be a very young, scratch side. May even have been part of a joint deal with Gibraltar for the Wrexham game in October.

Have their been any announcements on the Gibraltar game with regards tickets or Leigh James' coaches? I've seen nothing on the former and only an intent to do the former.
Thanks in anticipation

Looks like we were right in predicting that these friendlies would be used to blood some new players as opposed to it being a full strength squad.

Looks like we were right in predicting that these friendlies would be used to blood some new players as opposed to it being a full strength squad. Think there will be a core of players who can set the group standard but i expect it to be used to blood the new players most ready. We haven't really had that opportunity for a little while and don't have it too often now. Think South Korea and Czechia games were the most recent i) against decent sides, ii) not with key matches in forefront of everyone's mind.

Even the South Korea game ended up being more important than planned because we had to overturn a bad run in that window - so Page could fully rotate

I'm going. More than happy for it to be a team full of kids. Senior pros will learn nothing from this game and could do with the rest. Bit disappointed with the FA for the pricing for this fixture given the opposition is so poor. The stadium looks good but as it's so remote this also adds expense. Can't think of a more expensive away game even though this will be the worst team I've seen away and the most pointless game. I'm looking forward to the trip and expecting little from the game given how poor Gibraltar were in Wrexham. Hopefully a few kids will grab the bull by the horns otherwise it's a waste of a game.

Same here, not too concerned about what side we put out, and a bit disappointed about the expense of it all and how late they left it. For match tickets, I presumed that was set by the Gibraltan FA? I wouldn't imagine the FAW set it (although I could be wrong).

What also frustrated me was the limited ticket buying window and Red Wall members needing to be the ones buying the tickets. Completely agree the usuals should have a priority window but after that they should be looking to grow the away fanbase - surely if any away game could accommodate all Welsh fans wanting to go, this should be it. Beyond some basic security and getting the data they need they should be making it as easy as possible for this game imo.

No Luke Harris seems an odd one
Would have thought this would be an opportunity to have a 30 man squad, include players like Harris and Davies. Seems to be pretty standard + Crew & Koumas

One for Eddie Beach too, I feel. Clueless.

Fine team on paper. Just think we could have either extended the size to take a closer look at players on the fringes either who've got a high ceiling or who have had a good individual season on merit. Plenty of known quantities within that squad Page will have probably seen a enough of already.
Not sure why we've not looked at including a young keeper like Eddie Beach or Lewys Benjamin?

One of those. Part of me would love the whole thing to be flipped upside down and call up a squad of players from left field.
Also appreciate that more often than not our approach has been methodical. Identifying young talent and bedding them in getting them used to the process.
Do think this window without the ramifications of competitive fixtures was a good opportunity to flip things upside down but so be it and he has called up a high number of youngsters to be fair.

Surprised Mark Harris and Isaac Davies haven't made the cut, presuming neither are injured.
Glad there are a few of the usual squad in there though so it can be mixed up a little bit.

Agree with you completely. Really no excuse for Isaac not being included! Still, good to see the two Charlies and Fin.
