Just reading that the ROI goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher wants out of Liverpool & become no1 at another club because they have signed another goalkeeper.
Pity all the goalkeepers in the current Welsh squad did not have a similar attitude & drive.

Wasn't it that goalkeeper Jason Brown who started off the fashion of being a non playing goalkeeper in the squad?

Wasn't it that goalkeeper Jason Brown who started off the fashion of being a non playing goalkeeper in the squad? Bit different as he never played for Wales really just a perennial sub. Honourable mention to Lewis Price who was like Brown in being a professional back up goalkeeper for club and Wales. The strange thing with him was that he played once, against Belgium IIRC and he was outstanding. He also made a rare appearance on loan at club level against my club team and was similarly outstanding, saving a barrage of shots on the last day of the season that resulted in us getting relegated. He should have had a far better career than he did. In some ways it feels like the ultimate job- get paid a shed load to never have to play and I can understand why these guys do it, but man for some of them it’s a hell of a waste

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aidan_StokesAmerican kid Aidan Stokes looks like he’ll be an absolute unit. If it becomes a tug of war he’ll probably choose the U.S. but you never know. Played u15 for us and them. Lets see!

Being a Cheltenham supporter for my sins I've watched every game Owen Evans has played for us in his two spells with our club. He's a very good shot stopper, gets of his line well, his weakness is judging when to come of his line to catch the ball from corners or set plays. Not ready yet in my eyes, but maturity and more experienced ce could be one for the future

I once worked with a relative of Remi Matthews, the Crystal Palace reserve keeper. Apparently he didn't really like football that much but the money was too good to turn down, he liked keeping fit and healthy and the way he saw it was he could earn more than he could in any other job so he stuck it out. The money players earn these days can set up future generations of their family for life, they don't even have to play, it's insane.
I hope Eddie Beach doesn't go down that route, when you have an opportunity to be the Wales number one it seems such a waste to be a bench warmer. A good qualifying campaign or tournament with Wales can boost your profile tenfold.

Had Ward searched for more first team football and sacrificed a bit of wages, then he would probably be in line for another lower Prem/Championship move after his contract runs out. The way I see it, it's going to be very difficult for him to not have a drastic drop in wages once he moves. That drop didn't have to be so drastic if he kept himself playing and performing well

Played u15 for us and them. Lets see! He was recently called up by the US in the Jezek Cup. Which Wales were also playing in too. Still early days and I'm sure there's a degree of actively encouraging him to try both set ups.

Why I think calling up a young goalkeeper at third choice isn't a bad thing.
Just raises their profile a little bit. Could be the difference in getting a loan move to a higher standard or securing a good transfer.

I think addressing the keeper situation could be Bellamy’s greatest masterstroke so far.
He’s brought in Darlow to at the very least give Ward something to think about & reappointed Margetson, who really was the best we could have plumped for.
I agree that Eddie Beach needs to brought into the senior fold as soon as this U21 campaign is over.

I agree that Eddie Beach needs to brought into the senior fold as soon as this U21 campaign is over. I agree Beach should be brought in for Davies. As much as people give Ward jip for being content as a 3rd choice keeper, Davies is also content being a back up at Championship level. He could have spent these years being regular in League One, and by now may have been ready to be a regular at Championship level & in pole position to be a number 1 at international level too Instead he's rotted away on the bench. I would tell him we're calling Beach up in your place because we need to look to the future. If your situation changes and you get regular minutes you can come back in instead of Ward/Darlow, or if we have an injury you will be back in the squad. But we now need to use a squad space to plan for the future Bringing Beach in hopefully would raise his profile and encourage him to find first team football in either non-league or League Two

There is a bit of circumstantial evidence that does point towards this being a particular issue amongst those who end up as reserve keepers. I recall the reserve keeper of my club just upped and left one day to go on bloody love island! Goes to show that, like the guy you mention, his heart wasn’t really in the game.

Perhaps what is being missed from recent Kelleher interview is his acknowledgement that, while under contract, he can only move if his current club accepts the deal and they have turned down offers in the past for him.
It's not just one party involved in a deal.

To be clear, when I said “he played once” I was speaking figuratively not literally. I am surprised he won as many as 11 caps though, would have had it down as around half that. How many times was he 2nd or 3rd choice keeper and didn’t play over the course of his career though? I’d be willing to bet those 11 caps account for a very small ratio of his overall availability, filling in for when the first choice wasn’t available

Not a great option but I can’t believe he’s not been called up at some point to test the water given how bad things have been and he’s been playing decent-ish first team football at times. For me Occam’s Razor in this case points to him not being interested/doesn’t feel Welsh. If that’s the case it’s not much loss on that evidence!

Who would be a keeper, eh? I suppose the correction would be slight change to starting position so moving forward not backwards, better protection by team mates so have clear path forwards and back and, if no one is touching the ball, just let it pass you into the net so it's cancelled out.
Maxwell's had a long career, a good career, but I'm afraid this will be the clip that gets shared the most. He's got plenty in the pro column to fall back on though.

Arthur Okonkwo injured & ruled out for 6 weeks, so Callum Burton will have a spell for Wrexham. Be interesting to see how he gets on, only 28 which is young for a keeper
