I used the Fifa prognosis tool for the Belgium result and compared that with the points the other teams are set to have on Edgar's site and I had it as 7th. But I'll be happy to be wrong if it's 6th The most important thing for us now is coefficient points because we want to get ourselves a better draw for the next Euros and for the Nations League.

We are going to be in the premier league of this ridiculous nations league now surely? Playing fixtures against the likes of France and Germany. Christ, what a rise. It will be good practice for us but we could also quite easily finish bottom of the pool in that sort of company. I'd prefer the typical seeded format.

It is absurd. All for giving smaller nations more opportunity but it has to be really merited. Doing it like this will probably increase the calls for pre-qualifying which is the opposite of what the smaller associations should want.

Arguably, teams like Cyprus will have incentive to lose games in WCQ to drop down to 'easy' league D. Crazy system.

Before the game last night we were 'second tier', still 2 years off and groups not finalised for some time. Did you guys realise that 4 teams actually qualify for EURO 2020 directly from the nations league So one team from Group D is guaranteed to be at the next Euros, crazy. First time I've properly looked into this 'nations league' thing en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018%E2%80%9319_UEFA_Nations_League It looks a right mess. With all these extra games the whole main qualifying process will now be squeezed into a 9 month period. Difficult to see where the incentive is to make the 'final four competition', given that A) it'll happen during the regular qualifiers, and B) nobody will give a toss about winning it. It's just going to mean even more meaningless international football matches when surely the aim was the opposite.

We clearly need something in the years in between euros and wcq. With us N ire and Ireland at the Euros. Now would of been a great time to announce every two years a 3 game Celtic cup league table with each nation taking it in turns to host and each nation takes a 23 man squad. Wales could host first Cardiff city stadium gets first round of matches. Liberty stadium second round and racecourse third round over 10 days and it's good practice for major tournaments. Now would be perfect to announce and promote it

The dream continues Slightly surprised we aren't higher given we beat the team in 2nd. Our next two games are winnable so we could easily climb some more. World ranking at this point is purely cosmetic though isn't it?

Rankings. Wales 10 (up 1). Austria 26 (down 4) . ROI 31 (no change), Serbia 50 (down 3), Georgia 118 (down 19), Moldova 161 (up 4).
Based on that why shouldn't we win the group, if we were Austria, ROI or Serbia we would be hoping for second at the best.
Let's go to Austria and win, beat Georgia home and take control of the group

Can't see any Welsh friendlies lined up for 2017. Is that intentional to help with keeping a high FIFA ranking?
We have, Rep Ire home to Iceland in March (after Wales game) Rep Ire home to Uruguay in June (before Serbia game)
FIFA need to do something about friendlies affecting rankings, to the extent that countries deny their fans a chance to see their country play. Although having been to a few friendlies in Dublin (Rep Ire v England was a total snooze fest), I am delighted with the Nations League coming in.

If we win our next two games, it's fairly likely we could be as high as 6th. That's a seeded play off place assured and almost certainly seeding if we qualify for the World Cup.
The alternative is not winning these games and missing out on the play offs and World Cup altogether.
The stakes couldn't be higher at this point.

I think turkpower is refering to Englands's victories for Malta & Slovakia.

I reckon it would get us to 8th. Cant see us overtaking Poland or Columbia and on the basis that Russia are seeded we would miss out. If they used the Nov 23rd rankings then the play off for us and friendlies for others could swing it in our favour. Very long way to go though but it would be worth it, if only to see the National Press and Adrian Durham self combust.

It would be glorious Especially given the fact that England would be perilously close to dropping into Pot 3.

Can someone let the good old BBC know that the new rankings are out, there's barely a mention on the sport website!
