BELLAMY TURNS DOWN QPR FOR CARDIFF Interesting stuff knocking around about Craig Bellamy, with Dailies Express and Mail reporting that he is on his way to Cardiff. However, the interesting stuff comes in The Daily Mirror, who report: 'Craig Bellamy is turning down a staggering £60,000-a-week offer to be reunited with Mark Hughes at QPR to sign for his beloved hometown club Cardiff... 'Bellamy is agreeing a package at Cardiff where his wages will be less than a half of what he could earn at Loftus Road - although there will also be other incentives for him.' www.football365.com/transfer-gossip/7969965/Your-Tuesday-GossipLots of rumours Bellamy will be heading back to Wales this summer. For good I guess? Which makes this thread relevant again. I think he's got a good two seasons left in him as a player and I look forward to seeing him play a few more times for Wales. But I have to say I'm fascinated by what hapens after that.

Agreed and WHAT is this all about when he mentions GB? ------------------------------------------- One of the reasons we were able to make a mark with Team GB was because we had nine, 10, 11 players of quality for this level of football throughout the team. Plus, of course, it was short and sharp, the games coming thick and fast ------------------------------------------- The likes of Rose, Richards, Tomkins, Dawson, Sturridge and Bertrand? Quality players? Don't think so Craig!

One of the reasons we were able to make a mark with Team GB Eh? Including the behind closed doors game vs Mexico the record is a so-so: Played 6 Won 2 Drew 2 Lost 2

Under 23 Olympic Tournament football is not reflective on World Cup qualifiers at all.

"My ambition with Wales is to qualify for a tournament and I would give anything for that for the effect it would have on the nation and because it has been a long time."
Craig Bellamy at his Cardiff City press conference today.

Its good to have him back home in Wales and im delighted that it looks like he wants to carry on playing for a couple more years for us. Especially after what he said in that newspaper interview about quitting earlier in the year.

Craig Bellamy at his Cardiff City press conference today. Thats great to hear. I've been banging on for ages about how one (JUST FUCKING ONE!!!!) qualification would change the whole psyche of Welsh football, much like Euro '88 chnged Irish football. Welsh kids would watch their nation at a tournament and then grow up thinking they could do the same one day.

Eh? Including the behind closed doors game vs Mexico the record is a so-so: Played 6 Won 2 Drew 2 Lost 2 And one of those wins was against the UAE. The UAE had a decent team. You can't just write them off on the basis of their non-existent history in the game, they were actually quite capable if you watched the games, particularly UAE v. Uruguay. We are always making the mistake of underestimating our opponents from lesser-known nations, in my view it was part of the reason why we failed in the 2006 World Cup campaign. We should have won our first two games against Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland but were complacent about them and got two draws, which effectively knackered our hopes of qualifying and led to Hughes leaving early.

Hmmm. Quite good in a losing performance against an, apparently, woefully out of sorts Uruguay side. Nah, they're rubbish.

Did you actually watch the game?
Uruguay were expected to win comfortably, that they had to grind hard for it was testament to the skill and energy of the UAE players, in particular the first half where Uruguay were, frankly, lucky to have got in on level terms. Great Britain could also have very easily gone behind to them at one point in their match where they were clean in but somehow the keeper saved.
If Wales played that UAE team, I couldn't guarantee us beating them, in all honesty. And that's just their under-23s (with three overage players).

As far as Bellamy as manager is concerned, he strikes me as a manager in the Roy Keane mould - might be good as an impact manager if Coleman ends up being a disaster and we need someone to sort the team out (i.e. put the fear of God into them, and get them to actually play near 100%). But long-term, I'm not convinced he has the tactical brain for it. His game has become more intelligent since his days at Newcastle when he was very raw, but he still strikes me as a footballer of only average intelligence. He might improve as a a manager given time though.

Not sure about the lack of tactical understanding though... you can only really know that if you've spoken to him, at length, and even then, what does a football fan really know? One thing's for sure, as a manager he wouldn't be able to lose his temper with players the way he does a s a player - certainly not in the medium - long term.

From Tim Lewis from the Western Fail's Twitter page -
Tim Lewis @timlewis01
Craig Bellamy not happy with a section of Wales fans chanting 'where's your medal gone?' towards him at the end. Let's see if he'll talk.

If that upsets him he is a very thin skinned.

he's a passionate guy, thats one of the things that gives him such drive to be succesful, maybe if he had thicker skin we would have seen him getting into so many scrapes over the years
the interview about john terry and the one after the finland match are also worth a chuckle

I noticed Bellamy muttering something about "the fans" just before he came on... Sadly he then turned round so I don't know what he had to say! Paul Abandonato has made a big issue of the "where's your medal gone?" chant in today's Western Mail.

Who were the five lads doing all the chanting? The Welsh not british chant was fantastically enthusiastic, if a little late in coming.
