I think it's not difficult to see the probable defensive issues that will become evident when Bellamy unleashes his varying system changes during games, it's down to how quickly the players adapt, so we'll see.

Out of interest, was anybody at the IDLES gig in Bristol last Saturday? If so, you will know what I mean and why I posted in this thread. Did make me laugh. I know the singer is welsh but no idea why you’ve posted in the thread as wasn’t there.

Personally don't care what tactics he utilises really, as long we regularly win games and qualify for finals. Why over-complicate things? He'll only have limited time with the players.

I am sure he would say these tactics can give a team the edge and leads to winning games. Whether he says that after a year in the job, well we will have to wait and see. He doesn't have a squad full of premier league players but Croatia, Italy and Spain have shown recently that "lesser" players can win big games if they are tactically better. He will have less time with the players but in theory they've all been playing with each other and playing elements of this style for a few years through our developmental process. There has to be some advantages to having a smaller player pool!

Well people were saying Page should be sacked for not getting enough out of the player pool, and being tactically inept Bellamy will be the opposite but surely those same people can't think a few changes are over complicating it? Modern footballers should be able to follow a few simple instructions - I don't think Bellamy will be giving them massively complex plans. More just a case of spotting triggers & where/when to time runs etc...

We look more in control under Bellamy, no question. I reckon we'd have beaten Iran with Bellamy in charge at the World Cup, we'd certainly have played with far more attacking intent.

Last night's issues made it difficult to make an assessment but certainly against Turkey there was far less backs to the wall stuff which there often was under Page. We've got 4 points from 2 tricky fixtures. He's used 17? different players in those 2 games and had them in camp for over a week. He also has some players to return who will add to his strategy Brooks,James and youngsters like Koumas, Beck and hopefully Colwill who will come into regular contention. We may even have created some competition for goalkeeper. Think after 2 games we're in a decent position in the group. Players appear to be very positive about training methods etc. Great start as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone know if Craig will be touring Wales & giving talks & meeting the fans at events? He has said in interviews that a big part of his job will be doing this. He thinks this might be the last time he lives in Wales, and never really got to see much of Wales as a youngster, so he wants to be at peace with seeing as much of Wales as possible whilst he's in this job

I still think turkey was exactly the same as poland, Poland didnt have a shot on target and i dont think turkey got in our half. LIke poland though i was convinced we just couldn't score as the game went on and no changes were made to change my mind. POland were well organised at the back and like turkey we should be able to break down these sides. Its the loss of that little bit of bale magic

I don't recall many clearcut chances to score against Poland but we had two very good chances in the first half against Turkiye, the Ramsey missed header and the Rodon effort. Had Wilson got his cross right second half Johnson would have had a tap in. But it was so much more than that. It was the way we totally bossed proceedings. If you want a like for like comparison then the game against Turkiye under Page is a closer match, with all the disallowed penalties.

It's early days but I think we can be pretty confident already that Bellamy's tenure is going to be a good one. Especially the out of possession stuff which has been at a completely new level compared to any of his predecessors, not just Page. Also, the confidence to play out from the back, plus the speed and purpose at which we progress play down the field has been very impressive, especially considering the short time Bellamy has had with the players.
I'm very confident that Bellamy will be an excellent manager for us. Very probably the best ever.

To be fair his competition is probably just Coleman. Arguably Speed had the biggest impact but his tenure was too short to really call him the best ever, and to an extent the impact he's had on everyone including the likes of Bellamy has been a result of the tragedy of how it ended So Coleman is probably considered our greatest every manager, and his achievement will likely never be topped. However, you could argue he's not our best "manager" he just mostly benefitted from having a golden generation which included our best player of all time in his prime. Whilst he did a decent job tactically, he wasn't a mastermind. He got a tune out of what we had, and Bale/Ramsey made that tune really sing In terms of the tactical side of the game I think Bellamy is already showing early signs that he could be our best ever. Long way to go yet, but it's certainly promising. He needs to get us into a knockout stage to get into the conversation imo

Some comparative Welsh stats from those make for interesting reading! Nov-23 Sep-24 Possession 39% 67% Passes 330 602 Pass Accuracy 77% 87% Shots 10 15 Clearances 24 5 Blocks 2 2

It's just that he's already done so many bold things, such as playing two false 9s against Turkiye, with pretty much instantaneous results. If we'd got the win against Turkiye that our play deserved I think the narrative around Bellamy would be a lot more positive. But because the final actions - the final pass - or the shot on goal was poor, it's easy to underestimate just how good we were, in that first game especially.

But to have the confidence to go out and boss proceedings against a Turkiye side with a stronger lineup is next level.

I think Dan James and Brooks will love playing under Bellamy. Well though Sorba played in the two games James has more end product. I think we will get to see the class act that Brooks really is under Bellamy.

Bellamy certainly seems to have mellowed over the years.
I recall him disrespecting Welsh fans at games in Portugal and San Marino and being a complete and utter knob.
Hopefully the new Craig can have success with this team.

I personally feel Mullin would really suit Bellamy's system. He probably wouldn't have been good enough against the likes of Turkey and the better teams, but feel he would be a good focal point at home against sides like Montenegro. Hope he has a good season this year, if he does he might get a chance at a call up. Harris may be a decent intermediate option for now, or if Koumas improves further maybe he can be the number 9? Really liked his finishes I've seen from him so far

I'm getting ahead of myself somewhat, seeing that the aftermath of the Iceland game is the best place to assess Bellamy's tenure so far. However, I think we've seen enough already to get a good feel for things.
After the first game it was hard not to get carried away. To comprehensively outplay Turkiye playing a high tempo possession-led game in the very first game of his tenure was very impressive. When people were tongue in cheek commenting on winning the World Cup I wonder if I was the only one thinking "could we?".
Since then reality has struck home, which is of course, that we have a decent squad of players, with a serious lack of comparable cover in certain areas, especially DM. Even so, I think we've continued to see things under Bellamy that we haven't seen under Page. The two goals scored against Iceland from pinpoint long balls from Neco for instance. Or the curved ball over the top from Ramsey for the Sorba disallowed goal. Or the short corner routine that resulted in that golden opportunity for Rodon against Turkiye.
I think the trajectory is still very positive, but we need Ampadu back, and to have the likes of Wilson, Johnson, Brooks and James at the top of their game. Only Wilson, yesterday excepted, can claim that to date.
The Iceland game will good be a good litmus test of how far we've come under Bellamy. At home, even without key players, we should dominate, and ask questions of the opposition. They will also now have a body of work to examine to counter our tactics. Can we innovate further and pose new challenges? A big test for Bellamy and the squad.

Yes I suppose feedback should be kept until the group is over.
I have liked what he is about and what he wants to try and implement. The style of play is refreshing and I hope it continues.the games are exciting to watch and I am proud to see us play like this.
The positives are the back 4 looks good now, Rodon has stepped up and we have found the new No.1
He has used nearly all of the squad and it has shown we have more options and it must be great for the players knowing they will get a chance of minutes, its not just the usual 13/14 players getting game time,he has shown faith in them and this cant be underestimated long term.
The negatives[which I believe we can fix] is we have scored 5 goals and 3 of those came from Wilson that has to improve
Brennan needs to be made aware if there are anymore petulant bookings then he is dropped he has done it twice in this campaign
Ampadu is a big miss but he is basically the only player missing who gets into the starting Xl
I am really happy with the progression we actually can see something being developed here and we are playing good football and if he cracks the big enchilada...getting a goal scorer/s we will a top team.

I’m more than happy with the way it’s gone in the first five games. The results have been great imo. The performances have been more mixed, but far more positives than negatives.
I think there is a clear identity. Even yesterday despite not being able to dominate like we wanted, we still tried to press with aggression and we tried to play it out, it’s just that Turkey were too good for us and we didn’t implement the gameplan as effectively on this occasion. I’m sure that won’t be the last time it happens, but the difference with Page is the intent. Page set up with a low block in games like this. Bellamy wants us to dominate and that was the intent yesterday, but we just weren’t quite able to do it. I don’t think Bellamy at any point yesterday decided to settle for a draw and drop back - that was evident with the attacking substitutions in the 75th minute (Cullen for James for example). It’s just that Turkey pushed us back with their quality. Hopefully the time we play in this system, and with the likes of Ampadu back, we can implement better we’re in such a difficult game.

Agree 100%. I don't think the press was as consistent against Turkiye. In fact at times we were in a low block with Harris just outside our penalty area. I doubt this was the plan. But when we did press effectively Turkiye coughed up a number of loose passes which were intercepted and led to dangerous counters. The issue for us is a consistent implementation of the game plan, which will improve with time. The game plan itself is solid.
