is it weird to say I am gutted with that? I've long suspected that Pochettino makes a mean cup of tea and this all but confirms it.

Makes sense for both parties. ££££ I'm surprised that he's really content with playing second or even third fiddle to Rose and Vertonghen.

Signing the contract just means he has delayed his inevitable transfer to Stoke for a summer. He's only 23, he can afford the delay, he'll still be at one of the biggest clubs in England for another year, with a nice pay increase and another go at winning titles.

He does have age on his side...and yet a lot of youngsters take ages to establish themselves as first team regulars lower down the leagues let alone the Premiership, for him to have so many appearances at his age and be able to walk into most Premiership sides first XIs it seems amazing and a real waste that he is happy to tie himself down until the turn of the next decade.
What I would like to know is how Pochettino sold him the club to make him sign a new contract. What on Earth did he say? "Look Ben, we need a great pro to sit on the bench for 90% of the season and then make a few appearances on Thursday nights around February and March after we have gone out of the Champions League at the group stage". Anything else would have been lies. It is blatantly obvious he is not in their long term plans except as a squad player. They could be preparing to sell Rose in the summer...but even then we have seen Pochettino prefer to play players out of position than play Davies. That tells him all he needs to know about how bright his future looks at Spuds.

On a more positive note, the timing of the new contract offer could be a reflection of how Pochetino's estimation of Davies has risen now he's had a decent run in the team. We may see a lot more of that over the coming seasons.

Everton is where I'd like to see him go. It would be an ideal replacement for the ageing Baines and he'd learn a lot playing under Koeman (so long as he doesn't end up at Barca). He'd suit their style of play down to a T.

I disagree. Everton & Spurs are similar in that they both play with pace in the fullback positions. One of Davies' biggest weaknesses is his lack of pace.
Signing the contract is a no-brainer for him and spurs. He will not be at the club for the remainder of his contract. It just decreases the odds of a transfer this summer. The January and summer after he's just as likely to leave.

I think most players can run that fast for 30 metres without the ball. The great thing about the block was his reading of the play and the situation it happened in.

Revisiting this question, do you think Ben Davies should move on. I think he should, he is proving for Spurs now that he is a top quality full back and should be starting for a top 10 side. As soon as Rose is back its back to obscurity for Ben.

Like you say, Rose will be straight back in the team, shame that won't be until next season though, could have been the push to get him to go in the summer.

Rose will find it a lot more difficult to get back into the team after this. Who's to say also that Rose won't get a move to a bigger club in the summer. I can imagine a lot of big European clubs being interested in him.

Davies recently signed a new contract so he's firmly in Spurs' plans. He's fought for his place and taken his chance admirably...good on him. Arguably our best player in 2017.

But with Spurs looking odds on to be in the Champions League next season they have no need to sell. Hopefully the Manchester clubs look at Ben instead!

Ben has been getting in dangerous positions all game for Spurs today and chipped in with an assist at the death.
Would love to see him lift the FA cup, he's had a great season.

Shame he has been dropped for the big game. My heart bleeds for the Spurs ;-)) Next time, maybe Pochettino will be wise to play his best defender ;-)

How Spurs fans are criticising him on twitter after that first half i'll never know. Also get the impression some Spurs players don't like him as well. Even being an Arsenal fan, I was really hoping that the spurs won their next three and had something to play for v Hull in the final match of the season. Sadly, the Swans will need to hope Ben actually plays, as he will be the only spurs player that will actually care...

Before becoming a regular starter I would have agreed with Davies leaving... but he is doing so well now. Rambo is the player who needs to leave his club. Arsenal don't appreciate him, and he is wasted there
