If he's regular in League One he is a good option for us, as he has shown in the past for us when he's been regular for his club. Seems like he's never nailed down a place at Pompey though

Great to read that, hopefully he builds on this.

Great stuff, really hope he can be a regular starter for the rest of his career now at club level. He'll be a very useful player for us if he can do that

Hopefully at a higher level, if not with Pompey.

Watched first half Morrell was ok, Ben Davies was very good for Spurs, then again he always is.

Lots of praise from commentary team for his performance against Spurs.
He showed what he's good at (showing for the ball, finding simple pass to keep move going, busy in defence with lots of interceptions and few good tackles) and where he's less good (left foot weakness, bit too safe when going forward, odd rash tackle and beaten by premier league movement of Harry Kane for single goal) but think he can be very proud of his time on the pitch. A proper 7/10.
He also spoke well after managerial change midweek. Plenty to like about him.

I just feel that whatever level you play him at, if he has a run of games and faith put in him he will be a 6/7 out of 10 player most weeks due to his style of play. I hope he pushes on at Pompey and either helps them go up or gets a move to a progressive Championship club that play him weekly and understand what they're getting and his usefulness.

It's funny, he's had moves and patches of his career where he hasn't got picked. But as soon as he does get picked regularly he does really well. I think in the end he will be a very solid Championship midfielder, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get 70+ caps

Just to agree with much of the above - Joe was clearly Pompey's MOM against Spurs, and did not look out of place in 'elevated company'. He played his usual neat and tidy game, tackled well and helped out his defenders time and again.
He's never let us down on the international stage, and should look to be starting against Croatia - if he can stay clear of injuries etc.
Sudden thought... Is he or anyone else suspended from the upcoming qualifiers (only now 10 weeks away!) due to past yellow card issues?

Played earlier and was subbed off, Pompey lost to a Bolton side that had Owen Beck starting along with Sheehan, EFL Cup game.

Replaced by another Welshman in Louis Thompson although that ship has sailed, he's never getting a look in again I don't think.

Joe Morrell has an assist for Portsmouth's first goal against Fleetwood tonight.
Edit: Oops, sent off for 2 yellow cards in 63rd and 68th minutes.
The second booking was for hand ball.

He's taken a step back with that, terrible timing, let's hope the new manager, Mousinho, doesn't see something in who comes in for Joe and he moves down the pecking order, right at the end of the transfer window.

I'm glad he's still in the team and playing well, hopefully he keeps this form and joins one of the promoted sides in the summer and finally pushes on as a Championship regular because he's definitely got it in him to be one.

I think we've know for a while as Welsh fans that he can be a Championship player. He's certainly played like one for us, which means ultimately it doesn't matter too much if he stays in League One. However, as you say he definitely has it in him, so I would like to see him fulfill his potential in his club career

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0f4z57k - 2:20 mark discussion about Joe Morrell playing a more advanced midifeld role. Seems to be in really good form at the moment, having license of playing further up the pitch and chipping in attack. Need to catch a game soon but seems to get good plaudits every game from Pompey fans at the moment if twitter is anything to go by!

If Ampadu is sitting for us, having someone like Morrell next to him who is improving further up the pitch is great news. Joe Allen was great for us because he bridged the gap between defence and attack, if Morrell can do learn to do that to a similar level then that's great news
