www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Teenager-Joe-Morrell-chooses-Bristol-City-ahead/story-17493554-detail/story.htmlBorn in Ipswich yet playing for Wales youth. Good to see that we have our finger on the pulse in terms of finding out who is out there and getting them into the fold from an early age. I'm sure a few Rhys Williams types will slip through the net but on the other hand I'm sure that getting them into the Wales set up early will encourage players to stick with Wales as they get older and will provide us with players that we might have lost if we had not been so pro-active from the outset.

The name rings a bell. I think I remember reading an article where Osain Roberts talked about finding him and that he qualifies because he has a Welsh mum. I could be completely wrong. Hopefully he has the talent and the Welshness to become a Wales starter one day.

Hopefully he has the talent and the Welshness to become a Wales starter one day. To be fair all he needs is talent. I have plenty of Welshness, I brim with it....but it gets me precisely nowhere in footballing terms. Take Jason Perry for instance. By God he's a proud Welshman, but.....

Not sure what's happened with this lad. I saw him play quite a few times and thought he looked the best central midfield prospect at youth level. He has a very small frame though which could hinder him. He had a short loan at Sutton (and played), back in August. I missed this story from the summer.... www.bbc.com/sport/football/36987097Joe Morrell: Sutton United sign Bristol City midfielder on loan National League newcomers Sutton United have signed Bristol City and Wales Under-19 midfielder Joe Morrell on a month-long loan. The 19-year-old has made one first-team appearance for the Robins, in the Football League Trophy in 2013. "Joe is an exciting addition to the squad," Sutton boss Paul Doswell said. "He will continue to play games for Bristol City's Under-21s on Mondays and we look forward to helping him with his career progression."

He was hyped up to be the next Ramsey at the age of 15, that's what happened. I get your point on us over hyping, but some of these young ones will come good. Morrell is still only 19. He looked very good as a 17 year old. I saw Ramsey at 17 and I'm aware he was at a higher level and had the potential to be the best Welsh centre mid that I had seen. Which is excatly how things turned out, despite the leg break. I hyped him too.

Any Cheltenham/Bristol City fans know much about Joe Morrell? He's been starting for Cheltenham and scored a 25 yarder yesterday according to BBC.

I believe Morrell turned down the chance to go to Liverpool and has been on the fringes of the first team at Bristol for a while. Hopefully a good loan spell will mean he will get a chance in the championship next season

Joe earned his first start for Bristol City in the cup yesterday.
BTW where is Otto these days? The board could do with his informative posts again.

Only just turned 22 and now starting to get chances for Bristol City. They're 7th in the Champ and although Morell hasn't started a game in the league yet, I'm pretty sure he's on the bench every week. He also played the 90mins in the FA cup against Bolton yesterday and, from what I can see on Twitter, had a great game:
"Eliasson and Palmer were balling so much at times I'm going to call them the Hartcliffe Globetrotters. ⛹️♂️🏀But on the basis that both made the odd mistake in their quest to take the piss out of defenders, MOM can only be Morrell who was faultless and classy from start to finish."
"Agree mate. Loved seeing KP, NE and others running at the defence, combined with a bit of piss boiling trickery. That said, for me Joe Morrell was prob good enough to be the best player on the pitch twice over."
"Morrell looked class 🙌 so composed and unlucky not to get a goal. Looks very very promising! Love seeing players take their chances"
If he gets into their team he's more than likely to feature in our squad in the near future.

One to keep an eye on.
Could be an option in a year or 2

What's everyone's expectation of him in terms of future squads? I'm guessing he will play some part against Belarus, which would be my first time watching him.
Are we expecting him to be a mainstay in CM in the future?
Also what type of CM is he? Advanced, defensive, box-to-box?

Did a bit of everything, not really standing out in any department. Fancy he'll go on to be a squad player, little more. He's not in the same category as our top prospects and could be overtaken by younger midfield talents like Levitt.

Hope he can bring a bit more grit to the squad.

Great performance from the young lad. Kudos to Giggs for capping him now, he should be a useful addition to the squad.

He did play well. Be interesting to see how he copes with the opposition in our qualifying group and in a pressure game at that level. Hard to judge his potential on just this but I was impressed.

Very good debut. Have to take quality of opposition into account (they were much worse than Azerbaijan), but it was still his international debut. I think he's a genuine option for the squad, and given that he is playing regularly at the moment he may be more trusted to come in than Smith.

Looked decent tonight, helped by Joe Allen having an excellent game.
Look forward to seeing him in a qualifier.

Agree. Played well and did not shy away from the action. Can hardly remember a single time when he did anything wrong. 8/10 for me tonight

Great debut, albeit against poor opposition. Similar to Smith (not because of his stature) in that tidy, simple, efficient style of midfield play.

A few less than some of our PL players, then. Maybe they should all play down in League One for a bit.

From his performance yesterday I see no reason why he couldn’t play at Championship level next season.
