No clue. Saw the photo in a random BBC article I clicked on somewhere. I assumed it was just some shirt street venders would be selling, but I could be confused.

No worries Mike, I just thought it may be some "celebrity" who people (not me) are supposed to know. I keep seeing stories about "celebrities" and I have no idea who they are!!

Came on as a sub and scored in a 0-2 win. A good finish also after starting the move in his own half. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdzW4EJtBngAlso missed a good opportunity when one on one with the keeper but very positive performance on the pitch and very positive comments post-match. Augers well!

Interesting comments from him post match, saying how LAFC have been really good with him in not rushing things - that his body is still in pre-season condition given he's just moved over from Europe, whereas the rest of the squad are in mid-season. Also read an article from Marca yesterday which seemed to confirm he is only on something like a 20-30k per week salary. So it seems to me the move was primarily about two things: lifestyle and finding a club where he can dictate the terms to some extent to keep himself in the best possible shape without breaking down.
I suspect he will continue to be eased in over the next couple of weeks before he starts games week in week out. They have 14 games up to October, and then I believe the playoffs come in, so plenty of time for him to build up slowly and pick up momentum going into the world cup. Looking forward to see how things go over the next couple of months and expect there to be plenty more goals!

The best thing about that goal is the American commentary! There's just something always off absout their phraseology hahah

I love how he completely did the keeper mentally and passed into the near post bottom corner rather than bend it into the far top corner, class is permanent.

Good to see the LA fans taking to him... but if they think he's putting them before Wales they're beyond deluded.

Slightly longer clip of the goal is even more impressive. Quickly into a loose ball in midfield, plays a lovely ball with the outside of his boot and then continues his run before a composed finish.
"MLS, welcome to Gareth Bale"

The thing I take from that collection of goals is the knack he had of finding the far corner from the tightest of angles. I use the past tense because he doesn’t seem to score goals like that these days, his career and physical attributes are in a different era now but whilst he might have changed in that respect his ability to win games single handedly still seems to remain. Not bad for a left back, you have to say 😂

I was going to buy an LAFC shirt with Bale 11 on the back from their store, my word, I think it worked out at something like £150, absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully one of the UK stores will start sticking them.

I watched the last 15 mins live, not long enough to make many observations as such but the standard definitely wasn't Premier League or La Liga! More like League One! When you compare LAFC to Burnley last night as an example where LAFC (home team and top of the league) had 48% possession, 420 passes with 78% accuracy against Burnley's 70% possession, 599 passes with 84% accuracy possibly puts it into perspective. GB came on after an hour (both LAFC goals had been scored by then), and he looked very comfortable. Still way to good for this League in my opinion but it's a means to an end for sure. Keep fit Gar!

That makes no sense. Team possession stats is not an indicator of league quality. It’s a percentage of possession shared by two teams in one match. It always adds up to 100% in every league. The possession statistic only reflects that specific match. You see winning teams with less than 50% possession at every level. Pass accuracy can simply be a by product of a style of play. Barcelona for example are famous for high possession and high pass accuracy, because their whole philosophy is based on it. Different styles lead to different statistics. When Barcelona lose, for example, they usually still have a higher possession and pass accuracy statistic than the opposition. They are completely unsuitable statistics for judging outright league quality.

I was merely trying to provide a indicator of where I felt the standard of the MLS is in comparison to the Championship having watched around 15 mins of each game but having watched significantly more English League games than MLS games (total of 15 mins probably!). It wasn't meant to be a hypothesis but perhaps my use of passing statistics was not the best comparison to have utilised to provide my opinion of the quality of passing and movement that I witnessed which was not of the highest of standards to the reader.
