Unless you're a season ticket holder or trust member, I wish you the best of luck with that! Got a ticket lined up . Wish it was away though! Win the next 3 and you'll be playing there anyway.

Hopefully get a draw and a return trip to Wembley, great for finances and could take a good few thousand fans there.

Why couldn't we have found such luck against them in 2013?

Good win vs Swindon. Rolin Meneyase sent off for them. Collins played an hour for Newport. Sheehan didn't get on the pitch. Has he just come back from injury?

'Shawn McCoulsky's FA Cup winner against Leeds United in January may have "saved" the club from financial ruin.' Oh dear, that one goal stopped them from going under? Doesn't sound like a financially sustainable club whatsoever.

They have a number of talented youngsters in Jay Foulston and Momodou Touray who have trained with clubs higher in the football pyramid this season. Also they have Lewis Collins who is a Welsh youth international.
Last season they lost Rhys Davies to Leicester and Rhys Kavanagh to Bristol Rovers. They have done well by picking up youngsters released by Cardiff and both Bristol clubs.
The accounts for next season will also show a payment for Lee Evans making his Wales debut.
I wonder sometimes about FAW only supporting Welsh Premier league academies given the recent success of Newport (who rely on fund raising) and Wrexham's long term success at producing players for Welsh youth teams. The flip side is the success of Connah's Quay Nomads, where the majority of their academy players have gone to professional clubs.
Going forward if Newport continue to produce youngsters then it could be a source of income but they also need attendances to go up. There has been some improvement recently with crowds regularly being over 4,000 but this needs to go up again

No surprises with those that have been released. Hope they can stick with a big part of that squad and add a few quality additions and i think they will have a chance to challenge for the playoffs. They have some very decent players in that starting XI, and some leaders.

THE directors of Newport County AFC have admitted that they are concerned by the “continued viability” of the current Trust ownership model. www.southwalesargus.co.uk/sport/football/newportcounty/16218134.Newport_County_board_questions_Trust_ownership_model/The redacted minutes of the April board meeting, which are published on the club website, reveal that the directors believe the model has “financial shortcomings” and that maintaining the same level of playing budget for next season will be “a challenge” for the Exiles. County reported a loss of £351,456 for the financial year ending June 2017 but they expect to make a profit for this season. They made between £700,000 and £900,000 from their run to the FA Cup fourth round, which ended in a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in February’s Wembley replay, and from add-on payments relating to former player Lee Evans. Manager Michael Flynn said last month that Shawn McCoulsky's cup winner against Leeds United in January may have “saved” the club from financial ruin. And the club added: “The board have prepared strict budgets for the 2018-2019 season with a view to reducing unnecessary costs and increasing revenue streams.” The minutes from April’s board meeting show that Trust chairman Shaun Johnson gave an overview of next season’s draft budget. It states that “the playing budget has been impacted by the EFL’s Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) rules reducing level from 55 per cent to 50 per cent [of turnover that can be spent on wages]. “While the board acknowledged it has already given a commitment to the manager that the playing budget would be at least the same as this season, achieving this will continue to be a challenge.” The minutes then state that the directors will brief Trust members/owners on the financial difficulties at the next supporters meeting, which will be held at Rodney Parade on May 23. “A business-sensitive discussion followed regarding areas of the overall club budget where savings could be made and about the continued viability of the current Trust ownership model. “All directors agreed that the financial shortcomings of the current model needed to be communicated to all Trust members/owners at the next supporters’ meeting in May. “Cup runs and transfer incomes are merely plugging the gap created by these shortcomings and this needed to be addressed. “Proposals for a pre-season tour were discussed with a decision deferred pending more information and more clarity around the budget.” County are also continuing to discuss the club’s future at Rodney Parade, the Welsh Rugby Union-owned stadium they share with the Dragons and Newport RFC. The club’s current agreement to play at the city centre venue runs until 2023. “Board members continue to meet with the WRU to discuss issues around the club’s licence to play at Rodney Parade and its long-term viability,” added the minutes. “It was agreed to seek a round-table meeting between the club, Newport City Council, the Dragons, the WRU and other key stakeholders to discuss the future of professional sport at Rodney Parade in the light of the recently-released city centre masterplan.” On-field matters were also discussed at the board meeting, with Flynn giving a presentation on the plan for pre-season, the playing squad and next season. Management consultant Lennie Lawrence also gave his thoughts on the football side of the club. “His view was that clear direction was key – managers manage, coaches coach and directors direct. He made suggestions as to how Newport County AFC can continue to compete successfully in League Two or beyond – with stable management and getting player recruitment right highlighted.”

ACADEMY| Newport County AFC Academy Achieve EPPP Category 3 Status www.newport-county.co.uk/news/2018/may/academy-reach-cat-3/Following an application to the English Football League and the Premier League last week, the Club is pleased to announce that it has been granted EPPP Category 3 Academy status ahead of the 2018/19 season. Over the past two season, Newport County AFC’s Academy has been constantly improving and developing in order to improve the level of coaching, welfare and player development. This comes as the Academy seeks to increase the number of players suitable for First Team Football. Over the past few years the Academy has produced some excellent players including Regan Poole, Lee Evans, Aaron Collins, Momodou Touray and Jay Foulston who have represented the First Team with many progressing to play at Clubs at a high level of the professional game. At the start of the 2017/18 season, the club implemented a restructure of its Academy in order to help improve its financial performance, player development pathway, and quality of coaching. Throughout the course of the season, the Club has implemented the new structure and has seen the Academy engage with over 400 players and 50 staff. This change has always been the ambition for the Club as it allows the Academy to not only progress to an EPPP Category 3 Academy but also improve its infrastructure, access player compensation payments, and increase player contact time. Academy Manager Byron Anthony stated: “I am pleased that the Club is now in a position to transition to a Category 3 Academy. The move will allow us to employ additional full-time staff, improve our operations and communications, as well as increase the quality of players being developed though the pathway as a result of increased player contact time. “The Club has, in recent seasons, produced some very good players via its Academy, however, many of these have left without the Club receiving compensation rights. Category 3 will provide increased security for its players, as well as the ability to claim compensation for the time invested into them. That aside, our priority and focus is to develop players who can transition to the first team at their end of their Scholarship.” Further information regarding the transition to an EPPP Category 3 Academy will be communicated to the Parents, Guardians and Players of Newport County AFC throughout the course of Pre-Season, as well as via their annual Pre-Season Meetings. Academy upgrade will be financial boost for Newport County www.dailypost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/wrexham-afc-unveil-first-signing-14718772NEWPORT County AFC chief executive officer Alex Tunbridge has outlined the benefits of the club’s academy achieving category three status, writes Andrew Penman. There are four categories of academy. Category one to three academies register players from the under-nine age group through to professionals. Category one is the highest status of academy. “Our funding will go from £140,000 to £410,000,” explained Tunbridge. “And, to put that in perspective, last year [2016-2017] the academy lost £140,000 and this year [2017-2018] it will lose close to £40,000. “Unfortunately there are a lot of additional costs so we won’t see the direct cash benefit of the extra £300,000 [of funding] but we will see the addition of approximately nine full-time staff into the academy. “And we expect to see the level of coaching increase and the number of players being produced increasing so we can improve that pathway to the first team.” The Exiles will also be properly compensated if they do lose young talent to rival academies, as has happened in the past year with Rhys Davies joining Leicester City and Rhys Kavanagh moving to Bristol Rovers. “One of the key things about category four to category three is that if you’re category four you have no compensation rights over players under 16,” said Tunbridge. “So if there’s a nine-year-old who looks like the next Messi, any club with a category three status or above can come in and take him from you and you won’t receive any compensation for the time you’ve invested in them. “Within the category three model you can claim compensation for any player under 16 that you lose to another academy. “The academy lost £40,000 this year but it missed out on approximately £80,000-worth of compensation payments. “So if we’d been a category three academy [in 2017-2018] we’d have actually made a surplus of £40,000.”

That looks a poor draw to me. For beating Leicester, you'd want better.
Still, it's better than what Gillingham, Oldham and Barnet got served up after their shock wins.

That looks a poor draw to me. For beating Leicester, you'd want better. Still, it's better than what Gillingham, Oldham and Barnet got served up after their shock wins. Agree with that. Opens up an interesting point for me; should the 3rd round onwards be seeded? Lower league clubs who've got that far just want the payday, and they're never going to win it! They do it in the League Cup I think (or at least they used to), but admit it would take away from the uniqueness of the competition. <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 18.720000000000027px; height: 3.5600000000000023px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_22742660" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 18.72px; height: 3.56px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 881px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_53058840" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 18.72px; height: 3.56px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 118px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_62271286" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="18.720000000000027" height="3.5600000000000023" style="position: absolute; width: 18.72px; height: 3.56px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 881px; top: 118px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_22519995" scrolling="no"></iframe> EDIT - We have had Leeds, Spurs and Leicester in the last 14 months or so, so we can't complain too much. Boro away is crap in terms of financial reward, but if they're going for promotion we may be able to cause another shock - who knows.
