He should be an established Prem player, and I think he will be soon. Hopefully at Villa because they love him there

As previously stated, Mr Reliable and a premier class player. Don't know why Tony Pulis didn't fancy him at West Brom. Not tall or powerful enough for Pulis' style of football.

Will Chester remain Villa captain should Terry sign?

John Terry's been given the captaincy at Villa, which was to be expected really. As much as John Terry is despised by many, he's also a very accomplished defender and captain who Chester will learn a lot from, so I have no qualms with this at all.

James Chester has been sensational at the back these last few games and I can't help but think the influence John Terry's coaching has had on him at Villa and now trickling through to the national side. Villa have gone on a winning run and so have we. It may be a coincidence but I doubt it. Long may it continue... :-)

Maybe. And yes. I agree. He had a spectacular run on goal last night that Bale would have been proud of. Thought that Ash and Davies were also magnificent

The defence has certainly stepped up at the right time.
In general though Chester has been a magnificent find. Bale gets the plaudits but arguably we would not be where we are now without Chester. Who would have played alongside Williams otherwise? Collins I guess? Not sure he would have matched Chester's consistency (at international level at least).

He did play a shocking pass yesterday that ended up with the opposition being awarded a corner, other than that he was great.
I loved his 40 yard run almost into the opposition box as well 😂

He's always been quality.
Improved our defence a lot since joining.

How can Terry influence Chester when Chester plays for Wales, its more like Ash and the lads being the reason.

How can Terry influence Chester when Chester plays for Wales, its more like Ash and the lads being the reason. I'm just saying that I believe his game has come on leaps and bounds since he's been playing with Terry at Villa. Certainly in the EFL and definitely also for Wales as well. Not discounting the rest of the defence, far from it! But I certainly believe he has learnt alot from Terry which is also a huge positive for Wales.

I loved his 40 yard run almost into the opposition box as well 😂 It seemed to take ages to relieve the pressure after that pass, I was certain it'd end up in the goal at some point. Typical Centre Back run just tried to do too much in the end, deserved to at least get a shot away after that though.

Maybe you have seen more of Chester with Villa than I, but I"ve always believed James to be much better for Wales than his club, whether he has improved due to a few months with Terry is dubious imo.

Guardian article on seven Championship players that should be in the top flight, including a great summary of Chester's ability: www.theguardian.com/football/who-scored-blog/2018/jan/10/championship-players-transfer-window-premier-league-clubsSome defenders take longer than others to reach their full potential, though perhaps James Chester wasn’t given a proper opportunity to show what he could do earlier in his career, particularly at West Brom. The Baggies signed him for £8m in 2015 but gave him just nine starts – and none in his favoured centre-back position. He proved how capable a defender he is at Euro 2016, prompting Aston Villa to spend just over £8m on bringing him to Birmingham. Chester has been a mainstay in the side, not only playing every league game (71 matches) but every single minute. He was appointed captain when Steve Bruce became Villa manager but has since relinquished it to John Terry, though he looks every bit as impressive as the former England captain, if not more so. As dependable as they come, he has not made a single error that has led to an opposition goal in the league for Villa, while ranking among the top five players in the Championship for pass accuracy (88%) and clearances (215) this season.

IMO James Chester was the reason we not only qualified for Euro 2016 but did so well in the finals. No coincidence i think that he started his Wales' career just before the start of Euro 2016 qualifying and the rest is of course history.

Easily Premier League class, but I bet he's on huge wages at Villa.

Got to admit I was a bit dismayed when he joined Villa. Knew he was Premier League class obviously and seeing him drop down a division was a bit disheartening. But fair play, really showed his class and if he doesn't go up with them this year, Premier League clubs should be clamouring for his signature.

Mr Reliable scores against his old boss at the Stadium of Light. Gotta be in with a shout for Villa’s player of the season.

Chester has now scored three games on the trot. Better return than Vokes and HRK put together.
