As I tweeted earlier, does Collins have the appetite to fight for the shirt? That would be an interesting match up. What are the odds? Performance wise Chester for me.

If you ask me, Chester's been born to run. Oh oh oh hes on fire I'd be tempted to give him the captaincy soon- no disrespect to Williams, but I think having a captain who puts in all action performances like Chester's sweeping up against Bosnia and Cyprus would probably be a further boost for the teams new found resolve. He may even get better as a result, which is a hell of a prospect.

He was class last night. We finally have three good centre backs.

"James Chester is in no rush to leave Hull City, but he may have no choice as the Tigers look to avoid losing him for nothing and reduce costs ahead of life in the Championship.
The Wales international is actively wanted by a host of Premier League clubs including Newcastle and Aston Villa, while others including Crystal Palace and Everton are staying abreast of the situation.
But sources close to the player insist he is happy to remain with Hull and wants to help return them to the top flight.
The decision may end up being taken out of Chester's hands, with the Hull hierarchy aware that this summer will be their last real opportunity to cash in on the in-demand centre-back with his contract expiring next June.
26-year-old Chester isn't a prohibitively high earner at the KC Stadium, and shifting him from the wage bill is not a major concern, but the defender remains one of the most valuable players at the club and could fetch up to Β£10million if sold before deadline day.
If the former Manchester United trainee sees out his deal then he could have his pick of clubs next summer when he would likely pick up a bumper financial package on a Bosman deal.
Hull manager Steve Bruce is desperate to keep Chester but his position has been weakened at the club by May's relegation."

I'd love to see him move to Everton. With Distin going to Bournemouth and Alcaraz leaving I think he could get game time.

Playing regular football is most important though

Hull are in the championship playing under Steve Bruce, Everton will be pushing for Europe ( fingers crossed ) under Martinez who likes to play from the back. I just thought it would be a good fit.

From the BBC Football Gossip Column
"Hull defender James Chester, 26, is wanted by Crystal Palace, Leicester, Southampton, Newcastle, West Brom and Aston Villa with the Tigers hoping to raise Β£8m from his sale." (Sun - subscription only)
Of those sides, who do we think he would be a better fit for? My gut says Palace or Southampton although he may have more chance of starting for one of the others

Everton would be a good move for Chester and a good signing for the club. Were Everton my first club side, I would probably want them to sign Ash as with him you get steel and leadership in addition to composure on the ball. But as a Swan, lets be glad that has not been mooted.

The place I see him getting most game time and fitting in is West Brom. He will develop and learn a lot playing under Pulis.

For any of those teams, at that price he wouldn't be going in as cover.
Would probably want to avoid Villa, Leicester, and Palace.
Stones is gone, that's a done deal. Everton would be decent, but Martinez is hardly known for getting the best out of defenders.
Southampton would be the move.

There's a lot of snobbery about the fee for Chester. Whilst transfer fees are admittedly astronomical these days, I can't help but feel if he were anywhere near an English international squad it would be seen as a decent piece of business.

Who cares what english people think of Welsh players? Anyway, it's a good move. Would have preferred Southampton, but West Brom is a good club that if he does well at he still will have plenty of time to springboard in the next 18 months (or perhaps after the Euros) to a bigger club.

Koeman was known as a defender very composed on the ball and for him his attacking abilities won him more plaudits than his defensive ones. Like you, I thought that was a decent mix with where Chester currently is in his career. Pulis is associated more for shape, structure, hardware & physicality. For different reasons, I think that this is a good move.

Also, might as well use this as another opportunity to sing the guy's praises. Is it any coincidence that his arrival in the squad has coincided with an assuredness at the back not seen in a long while?
There were positive signs that we can shuffle the back 4/5 about with ease given the comprehensive way that we dealt with Israel. Still though Chester, for me, has been a vital find and pushed us on from the team that was stringing results together but with not much conviction to a well oiled machine that is grinding out results thanks to that man Bale but (in no small part) a defence that absolutely gives no quarter yet is not all over the place sliding in on its arse either. I hope he goes on to show at club level what he has done at international level because frankly, based on how he has played in a Wales shirt I think West Brom have got a bargain at 8m and I think he deserves a club bigger in stature in which to display his talents.
