Lots of players who are good passing the ball in central midfield but no incisiveness in attack or defence
Isn't Hughes scoring loads of goals in the Championship? I am sure she has loads of flaws but Wales desperately needs a goalscorer and a proper defender or two. We are playing midfielders in defence and attack and it just does not work. Our defending at time is beyond poor
Really don't see us qualifying with this group of players.
As an aside - Ingle seems anonymous for such large periods of games - where is here energy? I have criticised James a bit in the past but she has been far busier through the last couple of games and you can see she is giving everything.
The one quality player for us that is nearing being incisive is Holland.

Have said it before - we have 3 have a triangle of Ingle, James and Fishlock who are too immobile.
Grainger needs to replace at least one with a bit more energy
Then just back Hughes up front surely? Anyone can see we struggle massively scoring goals

Needlessly intricate in the area from Wales, Iceland break quickly, switch the play and smash it in from outside the box. Sums it up.

However, Grainger's position should be questioned as Cymru have taken a big step backwards compared to previous campaigns. Not good enough.

James has been better in the last couple of games but her lack of athleticism is an issue Ingle is the bigger disappointment - she is immobile too but am surprised she just disappears within games for an extended period of time They both look like they are treading water for large parts of games. Obviously I guess its an issue related to their age - but we surely have to freshen things up. We can't afford both of them and Fishlock to play together in games - Fishlock is clearly the most productive so the other two should rotate surely? How about substituting Ladd for Ingle in terms of position so we get more dynamism in the middle of the park? Surely we need to just back Hughes now. We need to score goals and the likes of Jones, Caine and Green for all their strengths are pretty toothless in front of goal or even creating clear cut opportunities for others. I think we look like a third seed type of team given such limitations - no attack and a ropey defence where players are being played out of position. Sometimes it is better to play an inferior player when they are more effective in a particular position! |

I totally expected us to be toothless tonight and for Iceland to grab a goal from a limited number of attacks. I am not a clairvoyant or great coach so to be able to recognise such a deficiency before things panned out like they did clearly highlights the need for major surgery in terms of the team we keep putting out

We need energy and to put people in places where they can be most effective We will still not be good enough to qualify unfortunately but we need to evolve the team urgently - I think the Nations League has shown us this |
