Its a bit of a joke that Ireland win one game at home against a French team already qualified and are seeded with a draw against a team from pot 3! Even worse - Poland ended up with zero points and a -8 goal difference and yet are seeded versus a pot 3 team!
I like the Nations league concept but this is not a very fair qualification process at all! We know there is no real difference between the top team in group B and the bottom team in group A at one point in time.

You just know its gonna be us versus Grainger's Norway right? !
I think they arguably underperformed? Italy must have improved a lot (they came joint top with Netherlands (who are good) in their group but Italy women have not got a track record and have been pretty ordinary in the past whereas Norway are always qualifying and have even won the women's WC

If results follow league status then bottom League A come out winners against league C in Round 1 (path 1). And top of League B come out as winners against bottom of league B in round 1 (Path 2). So in Round 2 you end up with a play off between the bottom of league A vs the top of league B which is how it should be as these are the teams closely matched. Sure, there will be some upsets but I get the logic.

I think qualification as it is should be done differently with mixed qualification groups
Why should a Republic of Ireland and especially a Polish team get an easier route to the finals just because they happened to be promoted from a weak group while the other team could relegated from a strong group? That a group B team could get maximum points but a group A team is left with an easier route despite having zero points and a goal differential of -20 or more is just silly

What's the perfect draw then? Azerbaijan or Slovakia in the first round and then play the winners of one of the ties involving a team that finished bottom of a group in league A?

Want to avoid Norway, Sweden and based on current ranking we're not too dissimilar to Czechia, Finland and ROI. ROI got 0 points but had a really tough qualifying group.

Slovakia then either Georgia or ROI. Gotta be happy with that

Slovakia seems a pretty good draw, should be able to get past them without too much trouble.
Republic of Ireland could be tough but we've avoided some of the really tough teams so I think we've got to be happy with that draw. Think ROI were unlucky to be in such a tough nations league group, they did beat France in the last gameweek but may have been a France reserve team with them having already qualified.

Slovakia had the second worst qualifying record of those countries making the playoffs W1 D1 L4. Azerbaijan were only worse on goal difference. ROI had a very tough group, but we've already shown they're beatable. It won't be easy but we should certainly make the playoff final and then it's 50 50.

Unbelievable luck
We lost our only outright striker (Hughes), our most creative forward player outside of Fishlock (Cane) and now Ingle to ACLs. Are we cursed? I don't even know but I bet you none of Ireland's big players are going to miss the play offs due to ACLs

Its worrying that added to the setback of losing Ingle and a genuine goalscorer who was becoming more prominent (Hughes) to ACLs (with one of our creative forwards - Hannah Cain - only just coming back from an ACL on top - so probably will not play?), some of our key players are not playing (Ladd - why is she staying at Utd - they did not pick her last year and it is the same this year and Evans is not yet established at Liverpool), while Holland is still touch and go and Fishlock will be struggling with an injury.
Add to that we now have a lot of players playing in the Championship - how on earth is a player of the quality like Rowe playing in that league? Very strange
We should hopefully have enough versus Slovakia but if you are honest then Ireland looks like it may be a step too far given our depleted resources.
I do think our women's team are cursed - the way we failed against an average Northern Ireland team through a keeper dropping a ball despite having a superior 10+ goal difference and losing in a qualifier versus Switzerland in injury time of the injury time in a play off and now we have this injury / lack of game time misfortune, I bet the Irish are having no such problems with their resources?

ACL injuries are a major issue in the women's game worldwide especially at the highest levels. But let's go with your usual glass half empty viewpoint or call it a curse!FFS!!

One positive - if we get through the first play off, then the second play off is at the end of November. So maybe, just maybe, Cain will be up and running and Fishlock would be fully fit, while hopefully some of our women will be getting more game time. I assume it will be still far too soon for Hughes - real shame as she was developing into a very productive goalscorer - which was just what we needed!

Reading the last few comments ACL injuries have been a big problem throughout the women's game sadly for sometime and its not just us getting bad luck
Totally gutted for Sophie as she has been a wonderful player for us and I am hopeful she would be back if we get to Euros
On the later point I feel we have more than enough quality to get the job done and we have been playing some really good football ,totally dominating at times; and if it clicks we could give someone a hiding
Rowe and Holland are excellent players I am not under estimating the task at hand but if we play as we can we win these games, and win them well

Positively, I see there were 4 Welsh players involved in the Liverpool vs Crystal Palace game today - Evans, Green and Woodham all played 90 mins and Holland seems to have recovered from injury as she came on at the start of the second half
Meanwhile, Hannah Cain came on after 65 mins and seemed to have an impact 'They came close to adding a second but Hannah Cain was twice denied by goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan' - ironically Brosnan is the keeper for Ireland! Hope Cain's horrible injuries are behind her now
So hopefully we have enough to get past Slovakia and if we do then we have a month before the final play off match. Fingers crossed!
