Any chance Sophie Ingle can make the finals?

I just love that the FAW went and found so many of the players who represented Cymru before the FAW had a women's team and got them a cap.
I just love that it led to this. So many shout outs for people who have been working towards this for 20+ years.
And I have only been interested for about 24 months. Imagine what it means for those involved for far longer?

Ingle just confirmed that it will be a push, but there's a chance she'll make the finals.

What fighters!
So, so happy for them!
Amazing - you invest in women and look what they can do! So, so proud. They wanted it so much and delivered. Those celebrations at the end too - so proud to be Welsh!

I thought Cymru played the long ball well in 2nd half. 2nd goal came from it. And seemed to create a lot from it. There’s more than one way to skin a cat!

Who's the coach/assistant who was on his feet a lot tonight? Front row second from the right. Face looks recognisable but can't put a name to him!

Well done to them! Always nice to watch Ireland fail to bully their way to victory in sport. I didn’t see the last game and expected this one to be a one sided battering both on the scoresheet and physically but from what I saw in this game they dished a bit out in return which predictably had the Irish players crying to the ref!
All in all a very streetwise performance (bar some panicky/braindead play in the last 10 minutes) which some of our men’s teams could have learned from given how they’ve tended to come unstuck against tactics like that.

I'm so glad we beat these.
I know it's shite to lose like this (we're Welsh, we know better than anyone what it's like to lose important matches), but not a single mention about the Welsh girls or congratulations from the Irish manager here. Very poor show. Even mentioned there was provocation from the Welsh bench! I mean really?! Bottle those salty Irish tears up please.

Wilkinson deserves massive credit, as well as the players and coach of course Look how she consistently used her bench and squad. She has developed a squad and not just a team - look at the rotation of players between games and the early use of subs and the full use of the bench during games. Then reflect on the combination for the decisive goal - two of the players involved (including the goalscorer) were subs, on of whom replaced Fishlock, and the penalty was put away by Cain who did not start the first match. Our bench was stronger than theirs and that was helped by exposing players. Griffiths was a bit lost in Cardiff and yet played a full part in Dublin despite her inexperience - the manager just backs the players to do a job! As an aside, Roberts was immense (I thought her game had materially declined in the last 12 months when I saw her struggle in a couple of the qualifiers and away in Slovakia - didn't she prove me massively wrong). Her interventions and sheer bloody mindedness were iconic, then you had Evans and Ladd present brick walls at the backs. Then look at how well has Woodham developed - she is now a key, high quality player for us - a goal, an assist and her free kick got the penalty. She is a full back! Well done her, all of the players and the coaches and manager for their magnificent efforts and sheer hard work! Rowe finally had an excellent game for Wales tonight - back to her old self and James had a solid game too. All of the players played their part throughout the campaign. So glad I have followed every match of their journey over the past 4 or so years - its a privellege to see them achieve so much tonight Our female football icon gets to play in a big tournament now! Hope they all stay injury free and that Ingle and Hughes recover in good time from their ACL! What a time for Welsh football !!!

I am knackered this morning but what a game! That 8 minutes of added time in the stadium was tense.
Fair play to the team for putting money behind the bar in Slattery's before the game.
Mad night back at the hilton with the team afterwards.
Onwards to Switzerland - 16th December for the draw.

Very poor show. Even mentioned there was provocation from the Welsh bench! I mean really?! Bottle those salty Irish tears up please. Ungracious and its hard to feel much empathy for her and a few of the Irish women (and their overly physical tactics). Such entitlement - they play a basic, physical games and assume they have a divine right to beat Wales. We have played her Irish teams 3 times - we have won away twice and drawn at home in a 12 month period. What planet are they on? When Wales have failed (men and women) they always swallow their disappointment and accept things - remembers Speed after the Russia play off defeat - he made clear we just weren't good enough. The Irish coach came up with comments that we totally dominated has 16 shots vs 6, etc. Well Ireland need to get rid of her of she is that delusional - we had the key moments, we hit the target with all 6,7 or 8 attempts, we made clear chances - we had 2 one on ones with the goalkeeper and Cain missed a tap in by half a foot after excellent driving play and a brilliant cross from Rowe. Further more, our game management post the penalty was excellent for 40 mins, where we had control and were counter attacking them regularly. To be fair - the RTE and other Irish pundits were balanced and several of them noted Wales deserved it as they delivered the key moments.

On Wilkinson - what a great person. Her press conference, her moment and as well as praising the team, she not only highlights the team but singles out her assistant John Grey (is that the name) as the key difference. So fortunate to have a top coach at the perfect, key stage in our evolution - she has delivered and is a winner and her winning, fearless mentality, as seen in her total trust in her squad is so. so refreshing!

Just heard a 15 min clip on off the ball - two pundits or ex female players I assume
All about them and its a failure as they apparently dominated us and should have won at a canter. The Welsh got away with murder, timewasting was disgusting and went unpunished (someone pointed out 8mins + was added, which was ignored) and McCabe was a victim of the Welsh winding her up (it was not her lack of self control and when someone said she was lucky she was not sent off - it underline how pathetic their bias was - it seemed they thought we should have got multiple cards or something!) and of course the penalty decision was so unfortunate - no one complained so why look at it. They quoted 17 shots against 6 for us, as highlighting the unfairness (again - we had better quality chances ). 80-90% of the comments from the Irish reaction I have seen have been along those lines. You do not usually see so many people from one country so up themselves like this - do they think they are Germany or England or Spain? Embarrassing
Its really pathetic. I bet they can hardly name more than 2 of our players (they got the name of our goalkeeper completely wrong) and there was no reference to it being our first time in a tournament, the heartbreaking miss against Switzerland and the only reference to Fishlock? Was it - at least a great player like that gets to sample a tournament. No it was she has played against McCabe many times and knew how to get under her skin.
So dislikable. Really - they qualified for one tournament ever, have one standout home grown player who should have been red carded last night and their quality elsewhere is held up by their American imports, while their other quality player (is it Littlejohn?) had what sounded like a distinctly Scottish accent?
In 3 games we have outscored them 5 goals to 2, with 2 of those being away from home.
I am not suggesting we were far superior to them but really - its like they are a tier above us and the referee was the difference (and bad luck)!

She had probably lost her job anyway. I think I’m right in saying her contract was at its end, and I’d guess failure to qualify was the end for her. Especially as the expectation was they’d beat us. She probably realised this which added to her frustration. Still not really an excuse in her role though. Littlejohns comments in the article nearer the mark.

Well there is a clear gap in intelligence (especially emotional intelligence) between them and you can only imagine how far better a communicator Wilkinson is than her with their players Serves Ireland right - they threw out their Dutch coach who got them qualified for the WC immediately after the tournament, with McCabe a key instigator in the revolt against her. What do they say? You reap what you sow!

Mad night back at the hilton with the team afterwards. Onwards to Switzerland - 16th December for the draw. It must have been some night! They seem like a great bunch of women and really good representatives* of our nation. No need to go into specifics if you don't want, but how did you end up in the Hilton with them? *Yes I know about that news story but they're not in the squad any more.

I know it's nearly 50 years on but last night's handball penalty was kind of karma for the Joe Jordan and Phillips handballs.
