I know he's only 29 and one of only two Welsh central defenders playing regular top flight football, but still, he's proved such a liability in game after game after game for his country that you have to wonder if that's it now....
...Ironically, I thought he was playing well until his rush of blood too!

Yeah, that's the thing: up until the red, he was reminding us what a huge asset he is for us - he was perhaps the best defender on the pitch till he went off.

Can obviously play football, premiership contract after contract is proof.
No thanks to James though, one fuck up after another in a Welsh shirt.

As one of his biggest critics on here I was extremely happy with how he was performing early on. Coleman even made good use of his ability to put some snow on the ball by using him for long free kicks. I can understand the red, don't think it was a straight red myself. It could easily have been yellow for both players but that's football for you.
One thing is certain though, he does have his fair share of costly mistakes when playing for us. Of course he wouldn't be anywhere near our first XI unless we were desperate, just as we were last night. But who knows, once is ban is served we might be that desperate again. I really hope not because a full strength Welsh team would have beaten the Belgium that turned up last night.

The only ingredients the side misses - Collins can not play passing football - all of us know that - when Collins is not selected is him snuffing out aerial threats - Blake failed to deal with Kompany for Belgium's 1st and so did Gunter back in May against Mexico for de Nigris 1st.

"Hammers centre-back James Collins then dived in recklessly on the same player on the edge of the box, there were vociferous penalty appeals. However, referee ......awarded a free-kick and cautioned Collins"
From the BBC report on today's West Ham match.
He had no need to make the tackle that got him sent off against Belgium.
It's a great pity, he has much to offer.

looking at match of the day it could be argued that ash williams doesnt learn either, shocker of a header back to the keeper resulting in villa's second goal
agreed on collins though,my feeling is he's too old to change his ways now, someone must have not shouted 'stay on your feeeeeeeet!' enough at him when he was a kid

3 match ban wasn't it? Shouldn't be available now before 2013.

Automatic 2 game suspension so from that I take it he misses Serbia and Scotland.

3 game ban for JC - bad tackle but a bit harsh, I thought he'd get away with a 1 game ban!
He'd have been useful against the Jocks, even he would be unlikely to **** up 2 games in a row!

It's hard to have sympathy for Collins, but in this case a three match ban is over the top. Both players went at the ball with studs showing, one got there just before the other. If one gets a ban so should the other - both were dangerous or neither. The Johnny Evans/Shelvey incident recently was even more blatant. It's forgiveable for referees to make mistakes without the benefit of replays, but to not serve justice when it's there for all to see, a million times over, exactly what's happened, brings the game into disrepute. The footballing authorities should suspend themselves...

Didnt Rooney get a 2 match ban for kicking out at that Montenegro player? How can they compare Collins tackle to that?

Rooney got 3 matches aswell but reduced to 2 on appeal, no time for appeals in the case of Collins I'm afraid

Football authorities are a joke. The Jock got a 2 match ban for an assault on a football pitch and Collins gets the same ban for a 60/40 tackle. Absolute joke.

On current form he would be lucky to be starting.

On current form he would be lucky to be starting. Yes, but we've got two matches in four days. Once we factor in the inevitable injuries and suspensions, all of the defensive players in the squad will get a game. When you consider Collins, you weigh up his capacity to make errors versus his ability in the air, something which might have come in handy in Croatia.

Sorry but, We're not good enough not to want Collins in our side. He's our most experienced defender and actually isn't as bad as a lot on here make him out to be.

I was really impressed with how well Collins took his first goal.....I was expecting him to make a late run into the box before sliding in and getting nowhere near it.

Collins had virtually zero credit or acknowledgement for those well taken goals. It was all about Joe Cole who did this magical thing called crossing the ball into the box?! Ridiculous.
