collins always does well against rooney! Are you kidding me?! Did you see United v Villa at OT? Thats not the first time Rooney has done Collins up like a kipper either. Be positive by all means, but dont be blind.

Check out 1:44 - classic Collins, trademark slide as usual and ends up getting done by a full-back. We see this too often from him and makes him a liability. Im sure one of the tenets of the defensive manual is "stay on your feet", its a pity nobody tells him that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqf7kajwipU

I'm so bored of watching Collins brainlessly sliding into challenges. And like I posted before, it's been over 2 years now since he's had a good game for us. I just hope something in his head clicks on Saturday and he starts playing with a bit more intelligence. And stops fucking hoofing it!

Thought it was too good to be true - the preparations were going well until this unfortunate incident - Can't Gerard Houllier intervene and stop him from playing!!!! LOL!!

I read the subject as "James Collins past it" initially, and thought "a touch harsh, but possible grain of truth in that."
I understand the reservations, but we come back to who do we replace him with and he's a better bet than any alternatives.

Exactly, Ginge owes us a good performance big time, he's not the only one mind. There's a couple more who need to step up to the plate come Saturday.

He's capable of a big performances though- that's the frustrating thing Cliff. Germany away (both times) and Czech Republic home he was immense. We just haven't seen performances like that from him for over 2 years now. Looks like he'll play though so like I said, I just hope something clicks on Saturday.

Sorry storm, didn't mean to disapoint you - How anybody on this earth thinks he can defend is beyond me, he has cost us every game in this group and until he does retire or rightly a "decent" Wales manager tells him he is not up to scratch then i will not waste anymore money watching the tosser try to play!!!!

Come on lads, leave off Collins. His commitment is excellent. Not his fault he can't defend against a feather duster.

True, its not his fault he still gets picked simply because he plays for a Premiership club. I might start to have some faith in Speed if he drops Collins, that will be the sign that he recognises we have problems and isnt afraid to make big calls. It will show that he has actually watched some previous games and recognises that the guy makes a blunder every game. Sadly I fully expect him to still be involved in the Nations cup and remaining games in this campaign

Big early test for Speed this- does he do what he surely must realise is the right thing and drop Collins for the next game? Or does he wuss out? If it's the latter I'll lose a huge amount of my respect for him.

i agree that collins was dreaful.
however, doesn't the issue of whether to drop him depend on whether spped thinks the person who would replace him would be any better?
if spped deems him the best choice, then he will pick him.

In the absence of a better LB, how about putting Danny Collins in the middle with Williams and sticking Gabbidon at LB in the Nations Cup?!

the natons cup might be a time to try a different back 4 i would like to see:
matthews/blake rickets/Ribeiro gabbs taylor
the play offs may cause a few problems with the team for those games if swansea or cardiff are involved

Eat this, Collins haters.....James Collins that is, not Danny.
From Garth Crooks' team of the week:
"When he's not being disciplined by his club or falling out with his team-mates, Collins is a very good defender. He is solid at the back and always a danger at set plays. You cannot do any better than keep a clean sheet and score the winner.
Did you know? Won 16 aerial challenges this weekend, the most in the Premier League."

When was the last time Crooks watched Wales?
I think the general consensus here is that he's a very good defender, but going purely on Wales perfromances then he's in the team on being a name and a prem player as opposed to perfromances at present.

Collins is a donkey. I don't mean that in a bad way - every team needs a donkey. A donkey puts their head on everything, they do the sweeping up normally. As long as they play next to an intelligent, match reading defender at centre half it can work well. Using Cardiff as the example, they had Darren Purse (donkey) alongside Roger Johnson (intelligent). It was a good partnership. Where Wales fall down is having too many donkeys...
