I’m pretty sure that Guardiola and Mourinho wouldn’t have saved Sunderland this season so this is no real slant on his managerial abilities.
Still begs the question why though, seems like everyone but Coleman could see it was a disaster waiting to happen and the club is run terribly
Surely if he had held tight a better job would have come up.,Bizarre decision.

No idea why Coleman took the job but he’s not the first one to fall for it.
It’s like a managers graveyard.
Roy Keane, Steve Bruce,Martin o’Neill,Gus Poyet,Paulo de Canio,Sam Allardyce,David Moyes,Dick Advocaat,the list goes on,
No idea how they keep attracting them all.

The more Cookie struggles, then the more it looked like Gareth Bale and Osian Roberts show to me. Very harsh on such a successful manager results wise. Qualification and then Belgium in the Euros is a legacy to be proud of. Our support is very strong now and that’s a testament to the vibe he created. I do concede that Sunderland seemed an odd choice...

Right club, wrong time for Cookie - they were destined to fail, trouble is this sets his career back to before the Euro's if he gets relegated. So i think it was a poor choice by him.

It's a real shame what is happening to Chris & Kit at Sunderland.
But if they are relegated, given time they will turn it round.

Did anybody see the write up on Sunderland in the 'i' a couple of weeks ago. Basically saying what a mess Sunderland the club are in. Massively in debt, players stuck on premier league wages, Chris C has never met the chairman, and - if you believe it - the club didn't get the players or the type of player the manager wanted during the January window.
How the mighty have fallen, semi finals of euros to league 1 manager with a relegation under his belt unless something drastic happens. Surely he must be regretting it. I'm surprised he took it but can only imagine there wasn't much else on the table.
Personally I hope he can pull it off - but it really is looking unlikely.

I got strange looks in the pub and then told off by the landlady (straight laiced working class English people from t’North) when the story broke. Basically, I swore lots.
Now... I’m not too bothered. I suspect he’ll be there next season but, if they have a bad start, then he’s gone. Football wilderness so quickly.

Ironically I started this thread and i’m a Derby fan. Derby bottle it every year. I do hope Sunderland stay up and I also want Cardiff to get promoted now that Derby are way out of chance if automatic promotion.

He needs a move abroad. He should do Wales a favour and link up with half of his old squad at Sevilla next season

Relegated. [/‘ Everyone but Coleman could see the months ago, no idea why he went there. Yes, it was a nice pay cheque but his stock was high at the time and I’m sure he would have got an offer from another championship club if he’d stayed patient

Massive club with larger resources than most on a downward spiral. I thought they were too big to go down and a few results later, climb to safety and you can look like the person who stopped the rot and saved the club. Unfortunately it’s backfired on Coleman and looks bad on Wales too. The most successful manager in our history would rather manage a League 1 side than us...
