Good friendly for the team, not sure how many will travel so close to the Euros though?

to be honest its really just a rumour I heard at the moment that I thought I would pass on, some great venues in Ukraine though apart from the ones the Russians destroyed

Would be ecstatic at this. One of my good friends here in Serbia is Ukrainian and would definitely be a great excuse for a trip and party! Also, makes perfect sense with NI in their group and Russia in ours, Slovakia to a lesser extent.

Apparently confirmed for March: Need a bit of luck on the lottery this weekend to afford that as well. I wonder if the Caveman Restaurant is still there with its fake caveman who bore a resemblance to Bobby Gould!

I wonder if the Caveman Restaurant is still there with its fake caveman who bore a resemblance to Bobby Gould! It's Easter Monday, so that'll help a few people with time off! Went last summer and the (in)famous Cowboy's bar is no more. Although met Prickett on the weekend and he swore that it was still there in some other guise!

Tbh I'm bit of a novice when it comes to traveling away with Wales but now I'm retired I'm definitely intend to do a bit more.
So I'm up for the Ukraine trip, especially if it's Kiev, but can anyone recommend any decent hotels?

Donetsk for the Welsh connection would be nice.

Donetsk is bombed to bits and you might not come back. Even if you manage to get in. Wrote a bit about the Welsh thing last time I was there adecolley.wordpress.com/2013/11/25/yuzovka-the-welsh-city-in-ukraine/#more-1403Revolution started the following week! Hotels - I stayed in several earlier this month for about £20-£25 a night. Lots of choice on hotels.com Hotel Ukraine is on the main square - really good location. Hotel Dnipro opposite the old Dynamo stadium - don't get a taxi from outside here. Don't bother staying on the left bank of the river. Most of us stayed in Hotel Turist in 2001, on the left bank, but if you stay on the right bank, which is more interesting anyway, you don't have to use the tube so much. Ukraine is dirt cheap now because the war has killed its currency's exchange rate so though the flight may be a bit more than you want, you can dine like Henry VIII and pretend you're royalty. I know some of you already do that anyway

Good point Ade and one that for reasons unknown had escaped my mind, sort of swept under the carpet with the emergence of IS. Anyway I know you like to travel in Eastern Europe a lot, have you in your travels managed to access Trans Dniester? For whatever reason over the years I seem to have become attracted to Soviet Era Concrete Block architecture (sort of Arndale Centres on steroids) and from the bits I have seen on TV they have some pretty impressive ones. Just thinking with the impending trip to Moldova in the next qualifiers might be the perfect opportunity to go there, not sure if they let any Tom, Dick or Harry in though.

Ian Johnson said he went there a few years back and had to try to pass himself off as a non-Westerner. Has leggybach been there?
Haven't been to TD, might do the same as you if I get to Moldova. In fact, that trip is a great opportunity to visit Odessa too. Also, there's plenty of blocks in Kyiv for you to admire - more than enough.

Did Transnistria earlier this year. Thoroughly enjoyed it. If you go, make sure to speak to as many people as possible as the place itself offers very little other than symbols - maybe the river could be nice in warmer weather. One restaurant owner force-fed us home-made flavoured vodkas (including horseradish and garlic) while we quizzed him about the situation. Also, there's a dreadful but must-visit nightclub underneath the tank on the main square.

I drove across Moldova and Ukraine back in 2006. Had some fun & games with border staff at each crossing, but nothing that a $10 bill here and there couldn't sort out. In Transnistria when I explained I was Welsh they were very friendly - they consider Wales and Scotland to be suppressed nations like themselves. They even mentioned that they knew of Cwmbran Town who had played in Moldova in an Intertoto Cup game some years previously!

I love a bit of Eastern Europe so I shall be going. Sunday to the Thursday I think.
Well, provided it actually gets booked and doesn't turn out like the Poland away fixture that never was!

Is that the Poland game we watched in Portugal? No, this was the away game that was widely expected to be announced for the November friendly dates just gone. For whatever reason it didn't get booked and we got the Dutch instead.

Really starting to annoy me that this is yet to be confirmed by the FAW!! It's on a Ukraine football website but no indication it's official. It's going to be hard enough for fans to attend this game with France on the horizon and the longer they leave confirming it the more chance prices of flights will increase. You just wonder sometimes if they ever consider the supporters in these situations. Anyway rant over! Had to vent my frustrations somewhere!

Flights and accommodation are very cheap right now. Plus I'm missing the Euro group stages and I know a few who are interested.. Very tempted
