I think its great. Goalkeeper development must be better in the North? I guess outfield player development must be better in the south then. There's no need to divide a country like that. Hey im not dividing the country, the Welsh assembly does that for us.

Whilst I think this is great news, I wonder how this will benefit him greatly. Mignolet is first keeper, they've just brought in Adam Bogdan and they have Brad Jones also. Does that make Danny 4th choice? I hope not.

I think its great. Goalkeeper development must be better in the North? My theory is big, strong, slightly crazy kids who can kick a ball a long way out of their hands in south wales are told to concentrate on rugby... Just read this and it got me thinking - how many Wales goalkeepers have come from the south? There one or two one-cap wonders, but of our main goalkeepers with a decent number of caps, almost all have come from the north. Here's a list: Dai Davies Glanaman (South) Danny Coyne, Prestatyn (North) Mark Crossley, Barnsley (North (England)) Wayne Hennessey, Bangor (North) Paul Jones, Chirk (North) Jack Kelsey, Llansamlet (South) Tony Millington, Hawarden (North) Boaz Myhill, California, Schooled in Oswestry (North) Neville Southall, Llandudno (North) Gary Sprake, Swansea (South) What's even more interesting is that of the two on the list from the south, neither is from the Cardiff/Valleys/Newport area. Maybe it is a case that the more rugby players there are, the less goalkeepers there are...??

What if the last generation of northern footballer s wanted to be Southall? Then their dad's loved the fact their sons were keepers and encouraged it ? Could it not be that simple ?

Never a mention of Kyle Letheren. I'm probably a little biased as he's from my home town, but I really hope he stays injury free and impresses at Blackpool to grasp the chance of being Wales' second choice keeper. I'm a huge fan of Danny ward and think its fantastic that a young welsh goalkeeper is at such a prestigious club, but at that age its to early to be playing International football. The experience he gains from being away with the camp is fantastic and I like what Coleman is doing by giving the youngsters a taste of it but I fear it may be a little "I've made it" moment for Danny at such a tender age for a goalkeeper. With the exception of Thibaut Courtois(which I hope Danny is another), goalkeepers do not hit their prime until late twenties, early thirties and in that timespan a lot can happen for a young goalkeeper. Given that our second choice keeper(OFW) has just been released by a club relegated from the football league (tells its own story) I think its out of Letheren and Maxwell for the second pair of gloves and In my opinion Letheren has better credentials for the position. Dundee's player of the year when they obtained promotion and a burly figure in-between the sticks, Letheren was unlucky to pick up ANOTHER injury after his inclusion for the game against Andorra. Given that he'll be playing the highest standard of football compared to every other option we have available next season, injury free with a run of games he should provide excellent back up for Hennessey, who in large has been having it off for Wales for years, through no fault of his own of course.

Maxwell is also at league one level & a much better option.

Interesting to hear other opinions. Why do you think that maxwell is overlooked so much?

Interesting to hear other opinions. Why do you think that maxwell is overlooked so much? Because Maxwell is working his way up the leagues, whereas Letheren is working his way down the leagues at the moment.

Danny Ward would've grown up wanting to emulate the magnificent Paul Jones. More likely, he wanted to be Lehmann/Cech/van der Sar.

Wish Danny luck. After seeing what good playing for Celtic and in Scotland helped Ledley in to the shop window and in to the Premier League with Palace, think shall be good for all three sides - Danny, Liverpool and Aberdeen. Hope he has a good season out on loan and push Mignolet and Bogdan when he gets back to Liverpool. But like it's been mentioned on here already, would like to see him have a game for Wales.

Will be interesting to see if he plays. If liverpool rate him at all they will have soughts assurances about him getting game time.

Danny is currently playing in Europa League qualifying against FK Skendija. I haven't seen him in action yet.
Here's a link if anyone needs a football fix.

Wow. A Liverpool coach spilling banal platitudes about one of his lads, didn't see that coming. Patrick Viera did much the same about Emyr Huws and look where he ended up.

To be fair it would be easy to ship him out and forget about him. But it's interesting to hear how Liverpool are continuing to monitor him

As with Huws, lets wait until hes made a few appearances for Liverpool before we start to believe that they actually rate him. Now if it was the head of Chelsea's academy saying that a Liverpool lad is one of the best young keepers in the UK then that carries a bit of weight. The quotes in that article are just hyperbole.

He could well be boosting Ward's selling price. Hopefully he means it, but as Storm says, let's see him play a few games for Liverpool before we come to any conclusions.

Fair comment Storm, but articles like this are lifeblood of this forum without these we would have nothing to talk/discuss about and either agree or disagree on a players future potential.
