Looking at places to stay close to Lens - has anyone looked into Arras as an option? Seems to be on the train line. Any reason why Lille seems more popular?

We chose Lille because it's we are flying around for the group games and Lille is where we are flying into from Bordeaux and where we are flying out of for Toulouse

looking for advice on doing the train from lille to lens and back on matchday, would you advise buying in advance or will it be ok to get the tickets on the day? I've already bought mine through the SNCF UK Voyages website. Was £13 return. I'd do that as you're guaranteed to be able to get a train that day. Be nothing worse than showing up at Lille station and not being able to get to Lens! Is it me or are there more than one main train stations in Lille? Lille Flanders and Lille CHR?

If you are fast, there are still the last 3 beds available in a 3-bed room at the Lille youth hostel - €25 each including breakfast. That is for Weds 15th. For the 16th-17th you can have any of 26 beds available... Lille is about 45-50mins away by direct train and 30km by car. At least 2 trains an hour. About €10 each way. www.hihostels.com/hostels/lille-euralille/prices

Is it me or are there more than one main train stations in Lille? Lille Flanders and Lille CHR? The two stations are actually just a few minutes apart and the Fan Zone is just about mid-way between the two. Most internal trains and trains from Belgium arrive to Lille-Flanders. The Eurostar and some of the TGVs go to Lille-Europe

Lille CHR is a bit further out, you can find it on google maps or french wiki (not in english)

Found it now... Thanks! Lille CHR is in the south-west corner of the ring-road. Stade Pierre Mauroy, the match-venue is in the south-east corner (just in case seeing Slovakia v Russia game on 15th)

Satying in Bordeaux for the Slovakia game, can someone advise on the best/cheapest way of getting to the England game. Looked at flights to Charleroi Brussells and to Lille. Would trains be an option?

TGV Bordeaux to Paris is showing at £29.50 on Tuesday dep BOR at 8.20am arrive Paris 11.45am BUS option is cheaper at €19 but takes 8 hours to Paris - uk.voyages-sncf.com/en/ouibus I am flying Bordeaux to Charleroi Monday 13 Jun 2016 Dept 14:35 Arrive 16:10 At the moment it is STILL ONLY €22.50 on Ryan AirThere is an airport bus at Charleroi directly to Brussels and Ghent (only €5 - bookable only 2 months ahead!) Highly recommend Ghent - a gorgeous place! There is another direct bus between Ghent and Lille (€5) although there are plenty of trains for €14 as well... BTW, regular line 1 bus for €1.50 goes from Bordeaux downtown to airport... Two double rooms still available at Ghent hostel (€53) as well as singles (€22.50) - hostel perfectly overlooking the castle and canals! ... If you insist on catching a direct bus from Charleroi airport to Lille ... its €5-€17 and departs at 4.50pm arrives Lille at 6.20pm. Try www.flibco.com first - as many of its trip are only €5 at the moment!
Finally, flying back Charleroi to Carcassonne Saturday 18 Jun 2016 • 11:25 - 13:05 (I were robbed for this one at €37.50) Another stunning little town, with a hostel smack bang in the heart of it!

BUS TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE FOR JUNE at www.flibco.comCharleroi airport to Lille for only €5 (90 minute direct trip) Charleroi airport to Ghent for only €5 (80 minute direct trip) Tickets get emailed and you may print them out or just show them to the driver on your phone. My apologies, if my post above was misleading. The bus company that is still only allowing 10-week advance bookings is the one between Ghent and Lille... www.flixbus.com/ I am waiting on this one, as it departs from the smaller station (Dampoort), which is only a mere 1 km away from the youth hostel...

I might be Eric was kind enough to post a great Taxi Fare Finder. Using it, the Fare from Lens Stadium to central Lille is only €95 - night fare in low traffic ;-) Surely we can get 3 or 4 of us to split this First, at the ready on the Resale portal for a ticket... www.taxifarefinder.com

Any idea what kind of bags we can take into the stadium? Will there be some kind of bag drop in Lens?

I'm sure I seen there will be lockers outside the stadium to keep belongings in that can't be taken into the stadium.

Anyone still thinking about turning up to Lens without a ticket after reading the latest article about staying away if you have no ticket on wales online? And those who have got tickets what time are you looking to arrive in Lens? We have a group of 10 some with tickets and some without, what you recon the chances of people getting in the fan zones are gonna be? Our train arrives at 10am.

My train gets in to Lens around 9:30 am and leaves around 7:30 pm. Hoping that these times are early and late enough to miss much of the chaos at the train station.
No idea what we'll do to fill time if there's nowhere to drink/eat though. Suppose there will be some pop up burger vans, etc! I'm sure time will pass quickly enough having a wander around town soaking in the (hopefully friendly) atmosphere.
I'm thinking that drinking in the street might be heavily frowned upon for this occasion and might attract unpleasant attention from the police and England fans.

Yes openly drinking in the streets sounds like a big no no so will have to have the old hip flask filled up! Looks like unless you can get on the fan zone it's gonna be a bit of a nightmare with very little pubs. They couldn't have picked a worse place to have this game, surely there is more places that they could set up for people to watch the game. Just hoping we can get in the fanzone otherwise it could be a nightmare

I can also see a large area around the stadium being cordoned off for ticket holders only due to the terror threat. 2 UK teams playing each other in France.
If you don't have a ticket you'll be seriously bored there I think! (And that's not just me selfishly wanting quieter trains).

I can see why they are telling people to stay away but surely at the Euro's you should be encouraging more people to come rather than turning them away. Our group have already booked hotels and trains into Lens now so unless we get super lucky and pick up a couple of extra tickets some are gonna be knackard if we can't get in the fan zone. What should be a great day could turn very sour

We are flying into Paris from Bordeaux on the morning of game day and flying back in the evening. The only way to (hopefully) get back in time is by ordering a private transfer for 8 of us to Lens & back which has cost me 700Euros. We still don't have any England tickets and if I cancel the car by mid may I get 100% of my money back so thats the cut off point so me to give up on the hope of seeing the England game. So the Plan B is, if we don't get tickets we will cancel the car and watch the game on the big screen in Paris and make a day of it there. I really don't fancy tossing off 700Euros to get to Lens to be stuck outside the fan zone with no where to drink or watch the game whilst dodging low flying plastic chairs and getting blasted by water canons ;o) But I dont mind the chairs, fists and water canons if we all have tickets in our pockets.

You can see why the French authorities are discouraging ticketless people if the place has no facilities. This was the one game I didn't even bother applying for as soon as the draw was made. I'll watch it in a pub in Lyon as we make our way slowly down to Toulouse. More generally at EURO 2016, I hope the authorities manage to find that right balance between the clear need for high security and making fans feel like they're attending a party not an endurance test. Worries me a bit, If I'm honest.

If anyone is driving / taking the ferry across - an excellent accommodation option is the Youth Hostel in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
They still have 8 double rooms left for 15/16/17 June and its only €45 per double (incl. breakfast) or €22.60 for one bed (you might need to share with another person in a twin room). I stayed there at least twenty times - top notch place and free parking on site. Some excellent sea food restaurants nearby and super-friendly locals! This place can be a pain if not in own car, as you will need to change train twice to get to Lens. Its only 100km to Lens though and about 30Km from Calais www.hihostels.com/hostels/boulogne-sur-mer/prices There is also a Youth Hostel in Calais - €49 double or €30 single. I have never stayed there, though... www.auberge-jeunesse-calais.com/en/
