Has anybody read this? www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/football-fan-wrote-moving-letter-10897617#ICID=sharebar_twitterSo many holes in his letter. - if he went to all the home games, didn't buy a tournament ticket and wasn't a gold member..............how does he expect the FAW to know who he is? Take his word for it? - he claims that loads got gold membership, got tickets for Andorra, then stayed at home!!! ...............I'm not sure about you guys but I didn't see many empty seats. - some sat at home instead of going to the Isreal game because they couldn't be bothered!!!................... This was the game we would have qualified for the first time since 1958 if we had won.It was our biggest game for years.Stayed at home cos they couldn't be bothered?? Really?? Again, didn't see many empty seats. - he asks why he should bother going to the Moldova game as the team doesn't support him?? ...............The team have nothing to do with ticket allocation and, anyway, I don't go to home games to get loyalty points, I go because I want to be there supporting the team. - he asks where all the fans who got tickets for the euros were when we played Serbia in 2013 and Belgium in 2012? ..............I'd make a fair guess and say that they were there - he makes reference to 2009,2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015. To be fair he may have been going pre-2009 but makes no reference to it..............I'd bet that a fair few of the fans who got tickets can go back a bit further than that( I personally have only missed one home qualifier since 1991) - he also makes no reference of going to an away game,............. does he think that the ones who go away didn't go to the home games as well? (Mostly within 3 or 4 days of the away trip) - the Wales fans who went to Cyprus just happened to be on holiday and 'threw in a Wales game to round it off'. .......... Id say it was more likely the other way around, the Wales game happened to be in summer by a holiday resort and they 'threw in a holiday to round the Wales trip off' Can't be bothered going through the rest of his 'moving letter' Yes, Mr letter-writing-fan. You. Were There SO WERE WE.

one of the most embarrassing things i've ever read.
does he actually think its going to get him anywhere?
as for Wales Online, what a bunch of clowns they are. Can pretty much phone them up with any old rubbish and they will make a story out of it. They stink of Rugby as well!
I think it is good you have covered off so many of the holes in the letter but in reality the first one is all that is relevant! how the hell are the FAW supposed to know he was there?
Really wound me up this has!

one point to consider is although SOME people would have jumped on Cyprus away because it combined with a summer holiday, this would have only gained them 2 points from a possible 40, no way have any of those people got a ticket. If you committed to 2 away's and/or a tournament ticket in the campaign we qualified, then I think you fully deserve a ticket.

he has a valid point about single home matches counting for nothing - that is undoubtedley unfair

I mentioned this another thread but some have claimed they had have tickets with 3 points? (I.e. Membership only?) yes but what about a 2 or 3 campaign gold member with lots of single matches over those qualifying campaigns? with the current system at most you would get 6 points but could have attended maybe 10 or 12 games too

Most of it already covered by marsvolta and others. My personal highlight is his complaint that the reply was from Uefa (who, umm, sold the tickets); not the FAW, thanking him for his loyal commitment. Personally I was gutted I didn't get a handwritten letter from Gareth Bale, but we can't have everything.
Far more concerning is the fact that Wales Online would publish such a "moving" piece from an anonymous writer. Copying and pasting a Reddit post is not even lazy journalism; it simply isn't journalism at all. The only bit of writing actually added by Wales Online (at the top of the piece) firstly undermines all that follows by pointing out that 50,000 (sic) into 21,000 doesn't go, then makes the vague statement that the loyalty policy was criticized "by long-suffering fans" - 2 fans? 10,000 fans? Who knows? Definitely not the lazy writer of this drivel..
While I have every sympathy with those who missed out, this effort (I use the term loosely), along with the misrepresentation of Corky's comments by the BBC, just goes to show how the press's goal seems to be stirring up trouble rather than reporting the truth. Not a great shock, but still very frustrating.

The letter writer doesn't say which games he/she applied for and in which categories.
He must have had at least 6 points for his membership (assuming he bought a membership for the 2014 World Cup campaign). Had home games been added, and again assuming he had a 2012/14 membership, that would have given him 16 points in total. Now that would have given him a good chance of securing tickets, but certainly not in category 4 for any of the group games and not in category 3 or 4 for the Russia game.
I wonder which categories the letter writer applied for?

Addressing other points from the letter: 1. "People that went on holiday to Cyprus"... Someone who bought away membership, then a ticket for Cyprus away, would have five points. Presumably our letter writer has at least six points, so he's incorrect in thinking people who went to Cyprus just for a holiday jumped ahead of him in the queue. 2. "The idea behind a season ticket is to save money"... Not necessarily. As detailed on this board there were lots of other reasons to get a Tournament Ticket, including the extra loyalty point it gave you, guaranteed tickets each game, no queuing for tickets on match day, best choice of seats, etc. The thread is here: apostlewelshfootie.proboards.com/thread/3553/wales-bosnia-country3. "I paid MORE to go to these games than those people did"... Right, well if you're making this about money, Mr Anonymous, at least tell us WHERE you live. As everyone on this board knows, the true cost of watching Wales is not about what you paid for your ticket but about how far you travelled to get to the game. The Tournament Ticket holders who travel down from North Wales for every home game pay MORE than locals who buy individual tickets for each home match. I've total sympathy with all those who missed out on tickets. Less sympathy for people who use that as a stick with which to beat the rest of us!

Has anyone met the person who missed Wales' big qualification party night becuase Andorra are "not a big enough team"? Me neither.
And as for the Tournament Ticket holders who missed the chance to see us versus Israel, potentially qualify for the the first time in over 50 years "because they couldn't be bothered"...

I told them that I had ticket stubs to the opening of Bambi, I once bought a pocahontas book in Chester Disney shop and even have a Donald Duck Christmas Carol album! I bet they just give tickets to johnny come lately star wars fans!!!! I think I will just spend Easter in the Ukraine instead...now i wonder.....

i will admit to you all that i applied cat 3 for the 3 group games. i managed to secure 2 tickets for just the slovakia game. ecstatic as had resigned myself to watching it in the fan zone in bordeaux.
this allocation to me was just for gold membership and cyprus away. i went to most of the home games but not with a tournament ticket nor a half tournament ticket. i did go to the andorra home game but couldn't be bothered to go to the israel game as had no parachute tho to jump out of the plane. Did manage to catch the first half in the airport tho.
feel incredibly lucky gaining the tickets with just 5 points.

Also some people that feel hard done by may not realise that it was down to the credit card he used
A few of us did the full campaign this year and all but one of us got all the tickets we applied for, the FAW were very apologetic but said there was nothing they could do and that they had no idea why UEFA did what they did
Turns out the credit card company had refused the payment and he had no warning about it whatsoever, I applied for category 4 tickets for all games and got accepted for them all and it all seemed very easy
