Goal for Allen
Stoke score more than 2 for the first time in 89 games.
O'Neill seems to have a Midas touch

I assume that it was a dig at me then. Being kind I assume you're just being disingenuous in interpreting my exposition of the possession game by talking about the synergies generated by playing Iniesta, Xavi and Messi as indicating that I thought that Allen was at their level. I could have given the Allen, Britton and Sigurdsson combination when Swansea first arrived in the Premier League (e.g when Swansea played Fulham to a standstill at their patch in March 2012: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/17323829) as an example of greater than the sum of the parts synergies of a midfield where all players in central areas are comfortable on the ball - but I guess not everyone would be au fait with the exploits of the Swanselona side of 2011/12. I find it disappointing how some, perhaps many, posters on this site seem obsessed with the current club status of our players - and attach a significance to it that ignores facts. We know what Allen is capable of, just as we know what Ramsey and Bale are capable of when fully fit. Yet, time and time again, players are written off prematurely (add Ashley Williams and Jonny Williams to that list). I can understand the frustration when players are unavailable repeatedly through injury, but lets have a bit of perspective here. Come off it - so we shouldn't attach any significance to club status and club form? On that basis, how dare anyone claim that david healy, kyle lafferty and kieffer moore aren't world class players. Players can be under/over rated in football, but club standing + the level of demand from other clubs are pretty good measures of a player's ability / standing in the game. They may be crude, but they're the best measures we've got. Also, I don't think anyone's writing Allen off (not sure where you get that from) - I haven't seen anyone say he's anything other than a key player for us. But let's face it, he's not as good as many of us once thought - not anymore anyway. I would argue he's not quite as good as he was a couple of seasons ago. Incorrect and can be hugely irrelevant in international football. Look at NI, they have players playing/not playing at championship or lower level and they can produce truly world class performances. I stand by my comment, despite being ‘laughable’ in your opinion.

Interested to know, will Joe travel with the squad or will he stay back home (given the long travel and quick turnaround)

Obviously starts on Tuesday but does anyone still think he is more important than Ramsey or Bale? With neither Bale or Ramsey 100%, yes for sure, although Joe Morrell did a great job on Saturday. Nearly always Mr Consistency for us.

Obviously starts on Tuesday but does anyone still think he is more important than Ramsey or Bale? I think it's the first time he's missed a game where he's not been massively missed, and credit to Morrell for that, but he's still obviously very important.

Please get out of Stoke, he really is far, far too good to be at the bottom of the bloody Championship.
Who did he run across the pitch to hug last night after the Klinsmann? Was it OTJ?

I have no idea what I've been talking about these past few weeks, he's clearly the best defender in the UK by a mile! My motm yesterday. Super Joey Allen!

Morrell has been excellent, and had a good game again last night against better opposition. But Allen was different level. Lockyer and Mepham had virtually nothing to do all night thanks to the protection afforded by Allen and Morrell/Ampadu.
If Allen's still at Stoke in the summer then I'd happily contribute to a huge banner with Allen's picture on it (preferably in Jesus mode) and the words: Wales. Chickens. Stoke (copyright: erasedcitizen). That would be so, so good.

Any club where he can get game time in the top flight is good news for Joe and for Cymru. He should be a relatively inexpensive acquisition for most clubs, as opposed to signing a more ‘up-and-coming’ type of player.

Interesting to look up his name on twitter. He cupped his ears after scoring a brace against Luton to lash out at fans who've been giving him abuse. It's fair to say they're not impressed. They've come up with the following chant:
"9th in the prem until we signed you, and now you're fucking taking us to Crewe"
Seems to be one of the most disliked players at the club, with accusations of him being a headless chicken and having terrible positional awareness in midfield. He does appear to have some backers though who think he's one of their better performers.
I'm still really struggling to work out how a player we rate so highly can't drag up standards at stoke more than he's currently doing

Hoping that 2020 sees Joe move to a prem/top championship/good european club. And a Shawcross lead Stoke drop into L1.

He needs to go somewhere where he's appreciated, I think he'd be more appreciated abroad or at a club that play on the deck.
