Joe Allen in the derby. Terrific, absolutely terrific
Mopped up at the back, broke forward, played some great balls behind the defence...and City knew it, hence some rough stuff. Which he dealt with well.
He needs to retain his place in the Swans side, but my prediction that he'll be a first choice in the Welsh midfield by the end of this season appears on course

He appeard to get better as the game went on, but to be fair Swansea did as a team.
For some one who appears to be injury prone when Wales come calling he certainly carried on unaffected after that potential "leg breaker" from Chopper, sorry Chopra.
I don't really see much of Cardiff and Swansea but the player who stood out for me was the defender Tate.

Allen was brilliant- a real star in the making. Loved to way he stood up to Chopra too- what an annoying twat Chopra is! WHU are said to be sniffing around...which would be a stupid move for him, but it's encouraging that he's being linked to premiership clubs anyway. He looks like the kind of midfielder who will do well at international level too- intelligent, doesn't give the ball away much, excellent passer, bit of attitude. Go Joe!

Well someone on here was bagging us Allen fans last week. We bit our tongues and perhaps our tormentor might have a different view now. Classy. He and Gower were outstanding in the middle of the park. A real treat to watch two pint sized midfielders running the show.

I just hope he doesn't go to a prem club too early like Gunter did. Make sure he will certainly make the first XI before moving to a club. For example, how ironic would it be if he were to move to WHU, cement a starting berth, only to be knocked out by Collison returning from injury?
On the other hand, I suppose they could cement an awesome midfield partnership there (here's hoping!)

Very encouraging. Good that he seems to be developing as a defensive midfielder, balancing our young attacking ones. A midfield with Allen sitting deep, Ramsey further forward, Bale to the left and Collison on the right gives us plenty of reason for optimism.

It was very nearly another Ramsey/Shawcross situation: Annoying and fairly average Englishman breaks the leg of talented young Welsh- speaking midfielder. Thank god Allen was able to ride the challenge OK.
Agree that Cardiff were woeful, especailly in midfield. Who the hell is Danny Drinkwater? He makes Andrew Crofts look like Wesley Sneijder. And Olafinjana, the Patrick Viera of the championship? What does that make Joe Allen- The Xavi Hernandes?! Does Dave Jones really not think Darcy Blake would have at least added a bit of steel, a bit of fight to that Cardiff side? And they miss Jay Bothroyd big time- why didn't they go for Sam Vokes as back up (OK, so he's been injured, but who was to know that?) Keough is decent, but not in any way the same kind of player as Bothroyd.

Went to see the Swans on Wednesday, Allen came on at half time and looked like the only spark in an otherwise awful team performance.

That was his first game back after about 5 weeks out. Olofinjana is up there with Bothroyd as the most important player at Cardiff this season - anyone can have a bad game and he most certainly did. I understand we all want Wales to do well, but a balanced informative opinion doesn't go a miss. One thin we can all agree on though...Allen was SUPERB ;D

www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/nov/14/swansea-city-middlesbrough-championshipDelighted to read that line 'probably the best midfield playmaker to be found outside the premiership'. And he's only 20 years old! I've said as a bit of a joke for a while that Allen and Ramsey are a bit like a junior Welsh version of Xavi and Ineista! The 'joke' is getting less funny with every game Allen plays. So, with Bale as our Messi (youngdragon said it, not me!) we can expect to see Wales play some Barcelona style football in the coming years I reckon!

Bellamy as the talented yet troubled etoo / ibra character - it all slots together. Delighted to hear these things about Allen. I've not had the chance to see him play, but he also sounds a bit special

Before the start of this season i had allen in my wales xi , it's on here somewhere so i am a supporter. However if as looks likely we get a long/direct approach coach then i'm not so sure allen would fit. He is playing beautifully in the swans geometric passing and pressing style with the extra player in the centre of mid often. It would be a much harder task to play alongside say Ramsey in 442 for example. Thoughts on a postcard please.

We appoint the right manager to get the best out of our talented young midfielders?
Ramsey and Allen have played very well alongside each other in a 4-4-2 many times for the U21s. which suggests Flynn could be that man. But really, I'd favour us going forward with a varition of 4-5-1(4-3-2-1 or 4-2-3-1) anyway, with 2 of Bale, Bellamy, Robson-Kanu and Cotterill on the wings, and 3 of Ramsey, Collison, Allen, Ledley, Edwards, King and Vaughan in the middle.

Just been listening to radio 5. Brendan Rodgers was on and Jonathan Pearce asked him about Joe Allen. Rodgers said he was a Xavi/Iniesta type player- not at that level obviously, but similar height and build, excellent passer who plays with intelligence. He looks to me like a proper international midfielder- especially if Speed continues to go with 3 in the middle- and I hope he does so well in the prem for the Swans that Speed has no choice but pick him for Wales.
Its time to pick and STICK with the young, talented, intelligent, technically gifted players. I don't give a fuck how much experience Andrew Crofts has got.

yeh for me that midfield 3 or 4 has to be a rotation of ramsey, allen, vaughan, edwards, ledley, collison depending on withdrawals. All quality and up to the standard.
Would love to see saun mcdonald given a chance too. For the under 21s i thought he was always one of our best players

This must be one of the strongest squads we've had for years If thats true then it shows how fucked up things are at the moment. I dont necessarily disagree, but it begs the question how we find ourselves where we are and why our performances since Speed took over have been pretty insipid if this really is our strongest group of players for a long time. I would say they may be talented with a ball at their feet but they arent half weak mentally or lacking in spirit and fight, which in many ways make it one of the weakest squads we have had. Ramsey as captain for instance, total nonsense.

I spoke to him on Saturday in Port Talbot, he said he was keen to return to Yeovil to get regular football under his belt. Brilliant news regarding Joe Allen Flynny! It's a pleasure to admit I was there in his 1st full appearance for the Swans four years back against Reading where in all honesty as a seventeen year old he made a mockery of there midfield, then won man of the match!

Ok on paper this is the strongest squad we have had in some time I think thats fair, I wish football was played on paper. In all honesty its hard to have any respect or faith in any aspect of the Welsh setup at the moment. Where are the genuine positives? We have these decent players but I couldnt tell you where the next win is coming from because they are all so feeble when they are on the same pitch together. They dont have the appetite for international football in the way that the likes of Montenegro do. The manager (to be kind) doesnt have much of a clue and the hierarchy have admitted to not measuring success by qualification.

Ok on paper this is the strongest squad we have had in some time I'm not sure. I think we've got a bit more depth but with a lot of players of similar ability, so we may have 20 or so bottom prem to bottom championship type players, plus a couple of creme de la creme. But for me it doesn't match up to for example the 93 / 94 team with sparky, rush, deano, giggs, ratcliffe, pembo, southhall, Bowen although maybe the support for them was lower standard. Plus if we had the best squad ever, then why are we below the faroes.
