I don't know where storm has disappeared to, but in one of his last posts before he did he asked the question 'will Joe Allen be coveted by top clubs?'...

I personally think that he would walk into the Manchester Utd midfield. It's pretty impressive that come the qualifiers, two of our three midfielders could be regulars at two of the biggest clubs in the epl.

He would have done a lot better job in the second half than the ManU midfield put together. Only one drawback, SAF will want him to restrict his performances for Wales, even more so when we play the scots.

I'm not so sure - had Giggs been less prone to injury, and also not had that intense father/son bond with him, I don't think there would have been much of a problem.

Liverpool are has been's. why would Joe Allen trade in what he has for a few dollars more in yesterdays team at Liverpool. As long as BR is in charge Joe will be staying until he really is ready to move to a top 6 club if Swansea aren't already there in two years time. Madness to even think he will move in this window.

I hate Liverpool as much as the next United fan but saying its madness if he moved to them in this transfer window is utter nonsense.

well tell us why it would be good to move to liverpool in this window over and above staying a swan? Some reasons for staying: He's a first team regular, he can improve further under Rodger's tutelage, swans play a style that suits him, he is in the welsh squad which trains half an hour away, the fans love him at the swans, he is already in the premier league, he is in the middle of an exciting season at the swans a run of wins sees them pushing for europe , a few losses in a row puts them back in the relegation mix, he has a great manager.
If he did desire a move then at the end of the season would be the time. However the only reason i can see for him moving then is if swansea go down or if he is courted by a team in the C. L.
If you can make a case against to trump those points then i tip my hat to you.

My cast-iron case against Allen staying at Swans: money.

Swansea are not a selling club i.e. there is no financial need to sell. The cash value of the sale of any key player in this window would not compensate for the loss of the player. Firstly, a weakening of the playing squad would jeopardize Premier League status. The cash value of retaining Premier League status is far higher than the value of any transfer. Secondly, the player could not be adequately replaced in this window even with the money reinvested. The club would also have to pay an inflated transfer fee as clubs would know they had money to spend. If the player wishes to go then the summer would be acceptable to the club providing a club met their valuation of Allen (or any other player). This would allow the player to contribute to this seasons campaign. It would allow the club time to identify and approach potential replacements in good time and at a reasonable price. Finally, Swansea have a track record in recent times of prioritising playing issues over financial issues. Pratley, De Vries and Rangel were all retained in last January's transfer window despite being out of contract in the summer. The judgement was that their contribution to that season's promotion campaign outweighed any financial incentive provided by a transfer fee. squatter1 will no doubt disagree. I would agree with this to a point: silly money.

With Sigurdsson and Mceachran arriving on loan. and Ferrie Bodde possibly on the point of a long-awaited return, it would not be inconceivable for Swansea to let Allen go - but only for a princely sum. I would be very disappointed to see him go but every player has his price.

Don't get me wrong: I think swansea are the best run club in the country, and will surely be the template for every other ambitious non-prem club that doesn't have a moneybags sugar daddy.
But part of being a well-run club is taking good money for players you've developed when it's on offer. I think they might turn down £5m for Allen, but not £10m. As for the player, I think the prospect of doubling his wages would make up his mind.

Interesting: what do you think he would get at Liverpool? 40k? What do you think he's on now? I'd have thought 15k? Or am I grossly inflating that?

Oh, I didn't realise he was on 20k - I would have thought more like 10. So perhaps not ten times, but I reckon he'd expect 65/70.

I'm surprised Allen is on as much as 20 grand at Swansea. If he was to move to Man Utd or Liverpool 40 grand would probably be about right. It feels a bit early though. If I was him I'd at least wait till the summer.

Which one would make you happy?

Joe Allen intelligent person too...got A's and A*'s in all of his GCSE's and worked really hard on his school work as well as his football. How much is he worth now? if Jack Rodwell is worth 20 million i don't see why Joe Allen can't be worth 15million at least.

He didn't start the season a regular, so if Swansea are paying squad members that sort of money they'd be in trouble. More likely that he's on 5k-10k and a nice play/win bonus. Jay Bothroyd was only on 10k at Cardiff last season, and Chopra around 18-20k, and we were ridiculous with our finances. Swansea seem far more sensible in their approach.

Joe Allen, along with many other of Swansea players were tied down to longer contracts over the summer. So, 20K sounds about right. Huw Jenkins is careful with Swansea's money - but no fool. He knows that if Swansea wants to stay in the Premier League he needs to meet his players' aspirations. Having said that, the loyalty of some players will be tested in the months ahead - as it was with Taylor. Should Swansea stay up they may find themselves needing 6 or 7 new players (remembering that 3 are on loan). But that goes with the territory of being successful - a headache well worth having.

From a Welsh point of view, Williams is perhaps the one most likely to leave (or want to leave) in the summer, because of his age. He's 27, Allen and Taylor are only 21/2 so they've got time to step up at a later date. With Ash Williams, if say Arsenal (why not? he's better than Squillaci) or Man Utd (why not? Ferdinand is past it, Vidic may leave) come in, I'd imagine he'd grab the chance with both hands..
...from Hednesford Town to the champions league in a few short years? don't bet against it.

Excellent performances from all three Welshmen vs the richest club in the world today. And yes, Ashley Williams is a Welshman!

Excellent performances from all three Welshmen vs the richest club in the world today. And yes, Ashley Williams is a Welshman! Agreed! Caulker was given Man of the match, but I believe it should have been given to Ashley Williams. Allen played his part in running the midfield yday, that much so that Mancini hauled off Gareth Barry. [For Gareth Barry, file under Overrated English Players!] Taylor was superb and gave us a further indication of why Newcastle and allegedly Arsenal have wanted him.

Allen and Taylor again superb today. Delighted to see Joey get his third of the season! Beginning to get the consistency again not seen by him since last October.
