Got 15 mins against Newcastle, in midfield this time. Looking as assured as ever. He has a fantastic range of passing, making two pinpoint 30/40 meter balls. One was an excellent through ball which sent pedro through one on one. He's probably up there with Bale as our best long passer - it's one of the very few areas which lets allen down somewhat and ramsey can be a bit hit or miss.

Anyone else think he will be a regular starter come the start of the next Euro campaign? (March 2019)

Certainly challenging Gunter at RWB if not RB. I think Ampadu has to play to be honest!

Reason being we have Ireland and Denmark, both games call on experience from midfield and I assume Giggs will want that to start the game(s).

Personally think we need him as our third centre back if we play that system. If not I think he will be the first player to cover either Ledley Rambo or Allen if they are injured. Think he needs to play one game in each position in the China Cup, I really think he is going to become a top top player and will eventually become our captain

Two bits of good news - that he's sticking with Wales and that Chelsea won't be loaning him out to Sunderland (no offence Cookie). Provided the story is true of course, I agree 100% with WelshRam, he's young and as a skilled and talented player, he could be subjected to far too much scrutiny and expectation at Sunderland. Not fair to put a youngster in that position and the fans could turn on him if he didn't live up to their hype. Glad he's staying where he is. He's much better off at Chelsea. This is a player who might be destined for the giants of Real or Barcelona one day.. Speaking of hype... Yep, but only the "right" hype of course.. 😀

Ampadu looks the real deal
How many of our squad would be getting game time at Chelsea like he is.
As for Roberts let's hope he does break through then he could challenge Gunter. However, don't think he will this season.

Just a random thought. Are we all a bit too paranoid about Ampadu potentially switching to England? Whilst he was born in England, his Mam is Welsh proper and his Dad, whilst also born in England, grew up in Ireland to Irish and Ghanaian parents - seems like he has little affiliation to England - he also speaks with an Irish accent of sorts. As someone like Holmesdale on here can testify, not being raised in Wales can enhance some people's national identity!

How many years did Ethan spend in Swansea while his dad was playing for City - or was he not yet born? Think Kwame also played for County later on

Not the best game to show what he can do but another assured display all the same and proved he's not afraid to stick his dreadlocks where it hurts. We've seen a fair bit of him recently but he's yet to put in anything less than a 7/8 out of ten performance. Keep the game time coming Conte.

I personally think Ampadu should be in our starting 11, forget his age how many of our squad would get anywhere near that Chelsea team? Not many !
Would like him to start one game at centre half and one in midfield CV out in China. I think he will become one of our greatest ever players

Would like him to start one game at centre half and one in midfield CV out in China. I think he will become one of our greatest ever players Good idea to test out the two different systems in China and test Ampadu in a back three and then in the base of midfield. I've watched all his games with Chelsea and think he has great potential, but that's all it is at the moment. It's way too early to know exactly how good he will be. He's shown so far that he has a great understanding of the game, can defend well and can pass well - including a really impressive range of long passing. However, whilst he's been very impressive for his age, he has, understandably, had the tendency to play it safe and, with the exception of one or to really good long balls, hasn't done much which requires great skill / technical ability. That's all to say while he is really impressive for his age, it's way to early to think "he will become one of our greatest ever players".

It is early in his development but out of all the youngsters I have seen play for Wales he has looked the most assured. Won't grab the headlines like Giggs, Bale and even possibly Woodburn but I genuinely feel he will become a Wales great and definitely a future captain

The article on Nyatanga in Wales Online should give reason for caution. I would agree that Amapadu is looking very promising - but similar big things were expected of Nyatanga too - and playing in a similar position. There are just too many variables to be sure that players at 17 will go on to big things or not. If someone with a track record of getting these calls right, in Bryan Flynn, can get it wrong with Nyatanga, it just shows how hit and miss predictions can be.
Having seen Connor Roberts a few times now, I think it's just as likely that he will become a lower league regular as a Premier League one.

Ampadu's career management to date seems me to be spot on - including of course his decision to play for Wales. I imagine he'll go out on loan next season to a Championship team, to complete his apprenticeship.
