Sunderland are the new Barnsley None of these teams had anywhere near as many Welsh players at one time as Palace had.

would Ethan not be a good signing for Cardiff or possibly even Swansea He'd be a good signing for about half the premier league clubs and most championship ones. As it stands, he'll be getting well trained in Chelsea's development set up but would like him to go on loan and start getting some first team action.

Ethan had a very decent match today with the u23 v Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy. Was (mostly) in the centre of the back three and did well commanding the troops, as per usual. Mis-timed a header that led to the Portsmouth goal, but was generally solid and quite impressive going forward. I really like him with the ball to feet. Oozes confidence.

Couldn't get away from work in time and had other commitments later so could not make it to the game tonight.

I may be wrong but I read somewhere (DS?) that he is to start tonight v Norwich. There was a piece on Conte saying he has done enough to warrant a starting berth in cup games. It doesn't look like he'll be playing CB long term same with Poole but we do need a new shield for the back 4.

Playing CB, that's where he should play for us at the moment IMO.
It would allow Davies to play LWB (if we're playing 3-4-3).
.............Hennesssey ....Chester...Williams...Ampadu Gunter.....Allen...Ledley....Davies ........Ramsey.....Lawrence ....................Bale

A half-back, as it were. He seems a natural at it, and it in his time on the field for Wales to an extent. In front of him, two midfielders (Allen and Ramsey) and three attackers. Essentially a 4-3-3 with Ampadu as a deep midfielder dropping into defence. IF he's good enough for such a role, it would allow Allen and Ramsey to play as they do best, and bring out the best in this team.

Another composed performance deployed on the right of a back three. His positioning and reading of the game was superb, making several interceptions and distributing well. Showed David Luis how it’s done.
Edit: Ampadu gets subbed, Norwich equalise. Luis losing his man. That won’t be lost on Conte.

Watched the whole game and I have to say young Ethan hardly put a foot wrong. Did the basics in the right way and kept possession well. A future star although the rise of Christensen may have halted his progress into the first XI for league matches, unless he plays DMC of course.

Outperformed David Luiz and probably should have stayed on, as Luiz was the reason the game was brought into extra time.

I though Ampadu looked iuncomfortable in the right of a back 3 the other night. He didn't make any real mistakes, but thought his positioning was off a couple of times - certainly when Luiz went up once, he was caught ball-watching far up the pitch. Still, didn't look too far out of place, which is brilliant at 17 but I think he's more comfortable in front of a back 3 with more freedom.

Two bits of good news - that he's sticking with Wales and that Chelsea won't be loaning him out to Sunderland (no offence Cookie). Provided the story is true of course, I agree 100% with WelshRam, he's young and as a skilled and talented player, he could be subjected to far too much scrutiny and expectation at Sunderland. Not fair to put a youngster in that position and the fans could turn on him if he didn't live up to their hype. Glad he's staying where he is. He's much better off at Chelsea. This is a player who might be destined for the giants of Real or Barcelona one day..
