I think we deserve a proper explanation to why Ampadu pulled out. He didn’t look injured to me Shhh. I heard he is up in east Midlands sorting out a lone deal 🤫🤞

Chelsea are already through tonight so will Ampadu get game time I wonder... if he doesn't he never will now is the opportunity for him to experience big game pressure / atmosphere .... like giggs has done with our young lads giving game look how wilson has come along at that east mids club, instead of sat in scouse land playing in the 23s

Just come on for last 30 minutes
EDIT Played well and definitely still looks like a class act. No hesitation in his challenges/tackles.

We've had a lot of our youngsters get on from the bench in Europe Poole, Broadhead etc. It doesn't mean a lot in the long run unfortunately. It certainly doesn't mean he's near the first team or in the managers plans short term.

It means he is a lot closer than most of the other u23a and when u consider he's just turned 18 it's pretty impressive.
How many of our squad would be that close to the Chelsea first team

How many of our squad would be that close to the Chelsea first team He is nowhere near the first XI considering he doesn't start for the second XI. He had 30 minutes from the bench after they put their second string out. He didn't even get a whole half when 1. the other team had 10 men, 2. they were winning and 3. they were already through, rendering this match unimportant.

I think we need to be realistic.
Chelsea's first choice Centre halves are David Luiz and Rudiger. Behind them they have Cahill and Christensen. If Ampadu were to play ahead of these two the manager would have two very pissed off senior players on his hands.
He's also behind Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Fabregas, Loftus Cheek, Barkley in the centre midfield spots. Again, 3 are first choice, so they other 3 would be very unhappy if they didn't get to start the 'second string' games.
I personally think it's positive that Ampadu is getting minutes off the bench in these games. Can only be positive for his development playing with World Class players in training.

Conte didn't have a problem playing Ampadu more often than the current manager does.

He isn't going to develop much further as a player without vital and regular first-team experience.
The manager needs to either play him, or send him out on loan (preferrably abroad imo).

He has just turned 18 for heaven's sake and is gaining vital experience. Yes I would like him to play more but he will be learning plenty in training.
Hopefully he will go on loan in January and see where he is at Chelsea next year.
Other than Bale none of our team would be a regular starter at Chelsea

No one's saying otherwise. He doesn't need to be playing for Chelsea to be getting first-team experience either.
If he isn't loaned out by next summer, it'll be another potential year spent on the benches of the second string team.

I agree with this pendragon. So many young players waste away at a big club. Going to Twente has done Smith the world of good. What would he be doing if he hadn't gone to Holland? His manager, the fans and the players love him and he starts every game. We wouldn't have known that he can hold his own at international level that's for sure.

Who's place is he realistically going to take even in that second string? There are double Euro/World cup winners warming the bench!

I certainly hope a mid-table PL team snap him up this Summer - an Everton, Watford or a Cardiff City ;-)

As an aside, saw this video of him on YouTube. Seems a nice, grounded guy. But, encouragingly, when asked "if you could break any record in football, what would it be" he says "get the most caps for Wales" (from 01:23) youtu.be/8wahQSwTrOk

He could have said FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League ..... something he could do in time if he became a regular for Chelsea over the years.
