Finally booked up! Would have preferred to fly from Manchester but we have decided to save some pennies and go from Stansted on the Wednesday via Istanbul(2 hour connection). We fly back 4.30am on Saturday same route. Anyone else seem to notice that all flights out of Georgia are very very early in the morning? Anyway we paid £190 return.

I've succumbed and made a hotel booking for Tbilisi. It's Hotel Margo Palace.
I'll attempt to fly from Manchester but will look at other options if needs be. That's Serbia and now Georgia organised.

We fly back 4.30am on Saturday same route. Anyone else seem to notice that all flights out of Georgia are very very early in the morning? Anyway we paid £190 return. I found, two airlines that arrive in the daytime. Ukrainian from Kiev to Tbilisi dept 12 noon arrive 3.45pm - about £100 one-way Wizz Air from Sofia to Kutaisi TUESDAY 3 Oct dept 14:40 arrive 6pm - STILL LESS THAN TEN POUNDS The train from Kutaisi to Tbilisi dept at 12.15pm and arrives Tbilisi at 5.15pm (about £2) it goes via Gori (4pm) if you fancy a night there. There are plenty of buses that will take you from the airport directly to Tbilisi (£4 about 4 hours) and marshrutkas from Kutaisi town for about £4 / 3-hours. COMING BACKThe UIA Saturday afternoon from Tbilisi is fully booked... The SATURDAY Wizzair 12:35 KUT 14:10 SOFIA is STILL ONLY £30 - this does mean a 6am or 7am bus from Tbilisi, though! Connects comfortably onto Ryan Air to Birmingham Dept Sofia 5.15pm arrive Brom 6.40pm - only £24 Also connects with Wizz Air Sofia to Bristol Dept 6.50pm arrive 8.20 - £55 There is a Sunday Wizzair from KUT to Munich ( Memmingen) Dept 15:45 Arrive 17:50 - for £45 - not sure about onward Sunday/Monday though!

You can also fly back Sunday afternoon 4.30 with UIA via Kiev. Arrive Gatwick 9.30. This was £125 one way with Expedia (£50 cheaper than UIA own website.

Sadly, the absolute bargain I thought I booked in Tbilisi three months ago (£20 for 3 nights) has now contacted me and said its actually £200...
So I have now reserved another small guest house on Booking.com
Tina's Homestay still has 2 doubles (think one is a twin) - £25 per double including a big breakfast (85 lari). Its about 300m from Freedom Square and the main bus station. About 500m from the old town and main nightlife.
Another small place, with similar prices (without the breakfast) I looked at, around the corner from there, is Family Guest House Old Street.
Generally, most hostels are about £8 in a dorm and you'll do well to find a basic hotel for about £20/£30 single/double

You're on a bit of a tour for this one aren't you? Are you spending any time in Kutasai? I'm trying to work out what area to stay there for one night.

I am a big lover of Georgia and have very fond memories of her from two trips in the 90s (only wish the football was as good then). I am carrying on straight after the Chisinau match for a week of Black Sea and then flying from Sofia to Kutaisi on 12 September... So will have plenty of time to give you lads field updates... Will try and sus out the best hostels in Tbilisi as well. Intend to do at least a week in Armenia as well - another favourite of mine ;-)

I'm up this way anyway but the others will be coming up from S Wales so perhaps if there's enough some shared transport could be arranged as it can be a bit of pain in and out of different airports when your driving and parking.

Found a great web page about a local's insider guide to Tbilisi (including transport). www.dariko.net/faq-georgia-transport-issues-in-details/ Main points: a taxi from Tbilisi airport to the city centre should be a fixed fare of 25 lari - about £8. A taxi ride anywhere inside the city will be 2 to 3 lari - no more than £1 Bus number 37 runs every 30 minutes 24/7 from airport to the city centre for half a lari (15p) (The route is: Tbilisi Airport - Metro station Avlabari - Freedom square - Rustaveli avenue - Heroes square - Tbilisi railway station / short walk for Stadium). Tbilisi metro runs 6am to midnight and costs half a lari = 50 tatri = 15 pence.

Some more excellent advice from SuperDave on YBIG re: trains from Kutaisi to Tbilisi: Just a word of advice for those coming down from Kutaisi on the train: 1) you can pre-book the train on www.railway.ge2) don't just get trains from Kutaisi: you can also book from stations on the main line and Rioni is the best bet (it seems to be the main station on the main line for Kutaisi). Kutaisi is just off the main line across the country, and there is only one direct Kutaisi to Tbilisi train daily which takes five hours and has quite a few stops. If you imagine the Dublin to Cork line having a short spur off towards Tipperary town and only one direct train a day, taking five hours, it's handier to get a taxi to Limerick Junction and get one of the (hour and a half) faster direct trains if the times suit. Rioni station is a fifteen minute taxi ride from the centre of Kutaisi - about 10km. There is a 10:02 train from Rioni in at 13:20 (12 lari about 3 euro). There's also a 19:19 train from Rioni in at 22:35 and a 20:06 in at 23:25, so all about 3h20m. The speed certainly beats the 12:15 direct train from Kutaisi that doesn't get in until 17:15, although I suppose that one leaves at the best time, and is slightly cheaper at 8 lari (2 euro). This one pulls into Gori at 15:54 for 7 lari. Incidentally, all those trains stop in Gori, for anyone considering the Stalin museum or the Uplistsikhe caves.... it could be worth going from Kutaisi to Gori, getting off there for a few hours, doing whatever there, then getting another train or even minibus on down to Tbilisi. If you get the 10:02 from Rioni, you could spend from 12:16 to 15:56 in Gori, which is plenty, then go on down to Tbilisi, arriving 17:15 (which is actually the direct train from Kutaisi). It seems that would be plenty for a trip to the museum or even the caves. Long and short of it, Rioni adds more options.

Are people aware - Wizz now selling Luton to Kutaisi flights direct. Just got one back on Sunday Oct 8 for about £70.
Wizz site says route is subject to regulatory approval but Wizz bigwigs are already announcing it as a new route for them
