Great start to the season for Wrexham. Hope the manager leaving doesn't effect their promotion push, they belong in the football league.

I went to the game against Ebbsfleet on sat and we were awful really. Lucky penalty, lucky win. So, I really didn't see tonights result coming! Delighted. I think Morell will probably be offered the job now (already on the wage bill too, so cheap!)

All set up for the Welsh Derby at the weekend.
Wrexham win away at promotion rivals Luton 1 - 0. Morell has certainly got the table toppers firing on all cylinders.
County eventually win 3 - 1 at home to 9 man Kettering. First win for manager Edinburgh.
On form it should be a comfortable win for Wrexham, but will form go out the window in the derby?

A while back Newport were being critcised for having so few Welsh players. Raptor redressed the balance somewhat, but it occurred to me tonight that only Tolley and Maxwell are in the match day squad for Wrexham these days, and for whom a decent core of Welsh players has been a feature for the last 15-20 years, possibly longer.

Fowler is usually involved but I think he is out injured?, and the young goalkeeper Danny Ward But the reason could be the fact that Wrexham's best young Welsh talent are usually taken on by premiership teams & as well be down to Saunders preferring to use experienced pro's in the conference www.wrexhamfan.co.uk/index.htmlGary Speed speaking to the Daily Post before his appointment as Wales manager last year, Speed lavished praise on the work it was doing to unearth future national and Premiership stars, his son Ed is a trainee and a member of the under-14s side www.dailypost.co.uk/sport-news/wrexham-fc/save-our-future/2010/10/29/how-welsh-football-is-benefitting-from-wrexham-fc-s-centre-of-excellence-55578-27675328/Here, Wrexham’s head of youth Andy Davies gives his verdict on the 11 youngsters who the big boys couldn’t wait to sign from Wrexham over the last year and a half. GETHIN JONES (midfielder, now at Everton) The current Wales schoolboy captain, 15-year-old midfielder Jones, from Porthmadog, skippered his country in their Victory Shield win over England back in October. Davies says: “We managed to get him first but Everton were very interested and he was with us for just over a year before he joined them. He’s got a big future in the game – he’s a dominant midfielder, a good size and he’ll be one Everton think a lot of.” MAX JENKS-GILBERT (centre-back, Stoke City) Pacy winger who represents Wales at U16 level, has recently left Wrexham’s centre of excellence to join the Potters. Davies says: “He’s very quick and direct, likes to take players on. He’s got bags and bags of pace which you always like to see in a player and he’s another one I’m sure will have a good future in the game.” RYAN HARRINGTON (centre-half, Everton) Still an U12, a number of clubs were interested in Harrington, who is from Wrexham and was discovered playing in the local leagues, before Everton snapped him up. Davies says: “He’s developed quite a lot in the last 12 months and I know a lot of clubs were looking at him. Ryan is a boy we thought a lot of – he’s a whole-hearted player and in training he was always among the first to arrive and the last to leave.” NATHAN BROADHEAD (midfielder/winger, Everton) From Bangor, Broadhead is the same age as Harrington and is a quick, skilful winger who Davies says the Dragons will be keeping tabs on for the future after he joined Everton. Davies says: “Nathan’s a quick player with excellent balance. He likes to take players on, he’s two-footed and lots of clubs were looking at him. I’m sure he’ll be one we’ll keep an eye on to see how he progresses.” JORDAN WILLIAMS (utility player, Liverpool) Originally from Bangor, Williams’ family later moved to Wrexham. The 15-year-old can play at centre-half or midfield and has represented Wales at U16 level. Davies says: “He was a very good player when he was with us and now he’s moved on he’s doing very well by all accounts.” CURTIS STRONG (left-back, Stoke City) A 15-year-old from Flint, Strong left Wrexham about 18 months ago and has represented Wales at schoolboy level, playing in the Victory Shield. Now playing in the U16s for Stoke. Davies says: “Stoke are very hopeful he’ll have a future in the game. He’s an excellent defender who also likes to get forward and attack. He’s one I’m sure will go on to have a great career.” LEON NEWELL (centre-forward, Birmingham City) An U17 from Anglesey, striker Newell is a handful for defences and was snapped up by Birmingham City. Davies says: “He’s very quick, direct and powerful. Leon represented Welsh Schools and Wales U17s while he was with us and is still involved in the Welsh set-up.” ROBBIE PARRY (forward, Wolverhampton Wanderers) From Llandudno, Parry has represented Wales at schoolboy level and is playing regularly in Wolves’ youth team. Davies says: “He’s another one in the Welsh set-up at U17s and will no doubt be in future Welsh squads.” WILL ROBERTS (right winger, Coventry City) From Denbigh, has represented Wales in the Victory Shield at schoolboy level, and at U17 level. Davies says: “Will came with his brother Tomos, who then went to Manchester United, and now the same thing has happened to him with Coventry coming in for him.” ;D ;D

Ah, the 'other' Welsh derby.
Newport are shite at the moment, should be a comfortable win for Wrexham.

That's really interesting, newaddingtonwelsh...thanks.
So if there's a story behind the headline at Wrexham, perhaps there is with Newport too?

I suppose the big difference is that Cardiff is so near to Newport that most of the most talented Welsh kids in south east Wales go there.
Back to the current Wrexham team, Lee Fowler is probably our best player and is out injured at the moment. Having said that, we've been doing OK without him the past few weeks.

Comfortable 2-0 win for Wrexham, perhaps more.
I can't see us getting a result on current form.

I think Wrexham's record on developing youngsters is excellent, but their could be some improvement on scouting the older lads, Jake Cassidy was not scouted, this has been a good source of income in years gone by with giving chances to english unknowns such Andy Morrell & Karl Connolly ;D ;D

To be fair Jake Cassidy is just one player ... there's always going to be one player who slips through the net

Plus, we don't really know how good Cassidy's going to be anyway. Ramon Calliste was at Manchester United and Liverpool and he's not even good enough to play for Newport County nowadays...

Wrexham 0-0 Newport
Newport finished the stonger, we should have won it but I'll take a point from this, corner turned.

Good point for Newport. Not the worst result in the world for us. Fowler coming back soon should be a big boost.

Amazing it's taken as long as it has. It's almost as though they dont want clubs run well.

Amazing it's taken as long as it has. It's almost as though they dont want clubs run well. I imagine the due diligence required was needed to be more diligent than usual given the 'businessmen' who previously owned the club! Also the FA and League were holding things up with their checks I believe. Wrexham desperately need to get back into the league now and dare I say it, get some businessmen on board who have their best interests at heart. Clubs can get in big trouble when only supporters fund the project.

Shouldn't be a problem. You should go, there will probably be over 1000 Wrexhams fans there- will be a great atmosphere in the away end. I was hoping for a 20th anniversary FA cup reunion with Arsenal, but maybe that'll be the 4th round!
