Didn't the article first crop up in the daily mail? Completely baffled and a little sickened at Welsh fans believing what they have to say word for word and casting stones at Rabbi before anything's even been proven. It's as if the majority of you want to believe it. I'm sure Giggs and the FAW will look at this matter with far more common sense and decency. I'm actually ashamed at some of you. If the allegations are proven to be true then fair enough, bash away, but let's hold off until then eh? I don’t know why being Welsh even comes into it, because it’s “one of our own” we should look the other way and forget all about it? I get that it’s unproven but it seems a lot of hassle to go to fabricate something so benign. If they really wanted to do a hatchet job surely they would have painted him out to be a bigger wanker than just refusing to wear his belt and calling the stewardesses a derogatory term? The Police were also called so *something* happened on that plane. Ah well, I’m sure if it is a fabrication Matondo can afford to get his lawyers involved and we will soon be hearing an apology from the daily mail, won’t we....won’t we? Where have I said that? If you're going to twist my words don't bother replying to me as that is what you are doing. I have not once said we should let him off because he is Welsh and if you genuinely think that is my argument then I feel sorry for you. I also haven't said it's a story that's been fabricated, but we don't know the facts. Were his mates playing up and got thrown off as a collective? Was he the one who called the stewardesses 'sluts'? These are very possible scenarios which you've failed to consider before you, and others have called for him to be dropped from the side. There's such a horrible 'witch-hunting' culture going around these days and it's such a shame that on this forum we're just as bad as our unfortunate neighbours for it. When have you ever seen the Daily Mail apologise for misreporting events or blowing things out of proportion? It's not as if Rabbi would have a case either as the article repeatedly says the word 'allegedly' which you've completely decided to ignore before going in at him. Absolutely ridiculous point from yourself there.

Absolutely ridiculous point from yourself there. There are some fair points there, but after going back and reading again two quotes jump out that for me, support my view that a cigar is a cigar here and it takes a bit of work to construct an alternative narrative. So, from the BBC no less, two quotes about the situation. From the FAW: "The Football Association of Wales is aware of a complaint made on board a flight into Bristol Airport concerning a member of the men's national squad.” From EasyJet: “Flight EZY6008 from Faro to Bristol on 28th May was met by the police upon landing as a result of a passenger behaving disruptively on board. Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour.” Seems pretty cut and dried to me, but y’know, you do you etc.

If he's a c**t, so what? If he's good enough, he should play regardless of whatever he does off-field.
This holier-than-thou attitude is why we've spent much of our history as perennial losers, gifting opposition any small advantage over us because of misguided virtue-signalling. Nobody in the future will look back and remember "those famous moral victories", only the ones where we actually got a fucking result.

My view of you has been confirmed. In this case I think a warning to Matondo would probably suffice but to say what Robon said us unbelievable.

We should be picking our best/most promising players whenever possible. Being righteous will never see us win anything.

I'm fully behind insertname on this. It's not even clear that the FAW are investigating the matter. I would sincerely hope that they don't just decide to drop the matter just because the police have chosen not to charge Matondo. There's always a chance that there's a case of mistaken identity here, or of Matondo carrying the can for collective misbehaviour - but that's what the FAW should be investigating. If they believe there's no case to answer let's hear from them.
It will be interesting to see if the media raise the issue in the next press conference. If they're doing their job they will do.

The FAW quote on the BBC site is quite clear in saying that it’s been dealt with. So it sounds like they are rug sweeping to a certain extent because, as you say, no arrests were made. Don’t get me wrong, i don’t think he should be tarred and feathered- but the FAW should be at least trying to get the bottom of it and making a show of dropping him for a round of qualifiers based on the evidence. Mind you, I suppose these days there is the risk the player decides he doesn’t need the hassle of international football and gives it a miss for a few years because the national association tries to discipline him. It’s a tightrope

If that's the way Matondo conducts himself he won't be missed.
If the FAW are sweeping this under the carpet then that reflects badly on them, and if the media allow them to do that, then that reflects poorly on them too. This is not a direction we should be heading in - because it will come back and bite us on the arse sooner or later.

Maybe they will and maybe the FAW will inform us that they've investigated the matter and haven't found any evidence that Matondo was guilty of any wrongdoing. I agree that the FAW should investigate the matter but I don't agree with those who are calling to punish Matondo without any evidence to back it up. He might've acted a bit of a nob and if that is the case then we should encourage more senior members of the side to have a stern word with him, and if he's guilty of using the words he's been accused of using then maybe a harsher punishment could be justified but we should be using this as an opportunity to educate the lad if anything. As it stands, however, we as fans do not know the facts so we have no business calling for his removal from the squad. If he ends up featuring in one of the matches and scores, will those who are casting stones at him already celebrate?

I bet we wouldn't see this sort of reaction if Bale was accused. I’d be deeply disappointed if it was Bale and certainly would not be rug sweeping it. Thankfully one thing Bale has got mostly right is his public image. Actually it’s not even an image going by baresi’s tale of how he met Bale when Bale dropped into Cardiff kids hospital on Christmas Eve completely under the radar, seeking no publicity for it. Young Rabbi could learn a thing or two about Bale’s humility. Getting your public image right is nothing to be proud of, in and of itself. The truth always outs eventually but as you have stated Bale is a genuine good person like most of the Welsh team.

Even if he was merely showing off and did not commit any criminal acts, this shows how much the culture among the younger players has changed since the late 90's. They are pampered. I can't imagine an 18 year old kid doing this around Rush, Hughes, Ratcliffe, Southall etc. They are no longer helping the kit man and scrubbing dirty boots, they are listening to Drake while having a Indian head massage.

However you could've named 4 well behaved England players just as easily, in order to contradict my point. I was talking more about humility and being grounded.

In my PERSONAL opinion, young footballers in general (with anecdotal evidence) have changed for the worse since around the late 90's. This incident/non incident/series of incidents points to lack of humility. It is the latest in a long list of young footballers behaving despicably and quite obviously this isn't the only thing that helped me form this opinion.

Think the majority of youngsters are far more professional nowadays. However everything now is filmed and uploaded.

I don't think age is a reliable indicator for a lack of discipline. There are plenty of older players who have bad attitudes too. It's all individual to the person, and I find it strange that you're quick to attribute bad behaviour to the person's generation.

I think players are far more refined in their public appearance these days. Like someone has said though, the mask can slip and show certain characters for who they really are - Joey Barton for instance pretends he's a philosopher and man of the world, but anyone with sense would know him as little more than a thug putting on a Jekyll & Hyde - Bellamy could be seen in the same vein too. I have to admit, Rich, you're sounding pretty gammon-esque. Bale, Allen, Ramsey etc. didn't scrub boots down or clean kits either, they're our most senior players and stand-out role models for Welsh football. Let's just accept that shit people exist in all walks and generations of life, shall we?

As a point of order isn't 'gammon' racism as it's an insult based on the colour of someone's skin? ie you couldn't call an ethnic minority 'gammon' because they aren't white. Not really much different to calling a black person 'charcoal' for example and we all know how racist that is.

It does become a racism issue with a someone of a different ethnicity starts throwing it about, however. It's hypocritical and narrow-minded, but that's the world we've created for ourselves.
